  • You may have heard that the main difference between an INFJ or ENFJ is how much they prefer Ni over Fe. But this confusing, relative difference is far from the true story. Let us find out the truth together.

    I commented on another video that I am an INFJ married to an ENFJ for 20 years. I have only been focused on learning about cognitive functions over the past couple of years. So I thought I might add a couple of thoughts on this topic, but want to add the caution that I am not an expert on functions and these observations may be unique to us as individuals. Plus, we have rubbed off on each other over the years. I have become more outgoing and he has become more aware of the need for alone time. 1) We are both idealistic, planners. 2) I am more pragmatic. He is more emotional. 3) He is very group oriented. He will run himself into the ground to fulfill his role in the group (and I should say groups). I will shut myself away and refuse to participate in activities, if I am overwhelmed regardless of any feeling of obligation (though I feel guilty and worry about it). 4) I am a good chameleon. He is a master chameleon. This has lead to him creating a private persona to blow off steam that he only shows to those closest to him. 5) I am better at deep reading him, than he is at deep reading me. I can block him from my internal world. 6) While we both plan. I would agree that my plans are very, very long range taking in as many possible contingencies as possible. His are more focused on immediate to moderately immediate issues and do consider most contingencies, but they are more based in known factors (I think), rather than multiple known and theoretical factors. I am personally working on being more succinct and not rambling. So, I will just leave it at this...though I am sure that I will have more thoughts later. Oh...7) He is much quicker verbally than I am. I tend to ramble and search for the exact word to express the thought. He can generally process through his thoughts verbally and respond quickly without as many side trips....

    I'm infj and my husband is enfj. We literally never argue and are almost exactly the same in most ways. Only thing we argue about is theoretical discussions. He pulls away from what if type questions and views them as pointless where it brings me ALOT of pleasure to ponder on unrealistic or unproven things. He is into the action, keeping up with politics, sports, community, And is a very proactive and present family man. He is incredibly patient, understanding, and thoughtful and sometimes I don't feel worthy. I would say both of us are closer to ambiverts which helps because he doesn't mind giving me space and I don't mind socializing with small groups. I believe my intuition is better at analyzing people and situations long term and his is better at making an immediate assessment of someone. He is more open, less judgemental, and less suspicious of people however, I am more lenient of people's flaws. For ex. As long as you never cross him he will judge you or have any guard up but the moment you do your done. He will never speak to you again. Whereas, I may know you for years and you cross me and I'll give you so many chances until it's absolutely clear your not a good person but I'll secretly have my guard up the whole time but still speak and interact with you. The reason I think I can do that is bc I probably was never really invested to begin with. I only have a few people I really care for and everyone else is just acquaintances.

    I have had several ENFJ friends. They brought me out of my shell at first and helped me develop Fe by broadening my social world. After I came out of a period of introversion or depression and I reconnected with them, they had completely new social circles, careers or values. They felt like strangers to me. I am very slow to change. 10 years to ponder something. That's me!

    • @ErikThor

      INFJs do change alot, but more on the inside, I feel like, every day I wake up feeling a change in me, but I think on the outside, I am always me. It's more about the nuances with how I change, like I come to realize something new, or I make peace with something old, and to me it feels profound or important, but the exterior me usually looks the same.

    Yes, I agree. Ya see it wasn't until I matured more where I really started to find a solid identity. I've always known who I am, but by solid I mean like... an unchanging identity. Its always been there and I've always been self aware I just don't focus on it. Only under stress and depression did I find that quiet part within myself. I have always felt like a chameleon. Some groups bring out my artsy side, some my goofy side, some my intellectual side. It's hard. I've realized I need to make sure I'm around similar people and not segment my groups, that way I can always feel my inner self and don't feel like parts of myself are forgotten if I go a week without talking to my intellectual friends, or what not.
    ALSO, I like what you said about the future. I tend to ponder the future a lot, maybe more than you insinuated. But you're right I think of myself in it. I recognize myself as unchanging and I decide who I will be in the future before it happens. I like to focus only on what I can control, and I remind myself that under stress.

    My entire life I always just sought to understand myself always studying, observing, analyzing, testing. I would identify with being ADHD, Capricorn, Ambivert then I found a video about infj which was spot on but thank you for helping me to now see that I'm actually enfj

    Very interesting! I thought I was an INFJ up until now. I just found out that I am actually an ENFJ, Although I test as an INFJ every time. I found that when I’m sad or if I’m having a tough period, I tend to be more INFJ-ish. But when I’m happy I am truly an ENFJ.

    I’m an ENFJ, and my best friend is an INFJ. The main difference between us he takes tooooooo long to make decisions. And I’m quick to make a decision.
    I’m actually pretty deep... and I think about the future... but aware of the present too.
    What I admire the most about INFJs is their patience, and calmness.
    I love INFJs. They are good for this world.

    Excellent feedback, thank you, I am still learning about typology and this video helped me a lot. I fall into this fluid, ambivalent personality type and have identified myself both with INFJ AND ENFJ. These videos have been helping me understand. I am slightly more inclined to ENFJ 😊

    I feel like my vision of the future fluctuates a lot, every time I get a new piece of information I have to reevaluate if it is still something that makes sense for me and I want to go that direction or I need to adjust. Good video.

    Very cool video. I've known some great enfj folks. I even tested as enfj once. I think it's because I'm pretty confident in social situations, but then I must recharge and I need alone time.

    I grew up naturally an ENFJ, but after years of childhood abuse and forced isolation.. I became nearly ambivert. Now I struggle to know, am I actually an "ambivert" or am I ENFJ?

      I was very shy and for some things I still am, so I sometimes wonder if I am an INFJ that is conquering Fe.

    • @Olivetree80
      @Olivetree80 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is possible to be a shy ENFJ, my mom was one as a child and teenager, but she is most certainly an ENFJ. Fe does not always express itself in a healthy way, but what you are describing is Fe and not Ni becoming more powerful.

  • @stevedavenport1202

    Hmm, I think the 50% idea is spot on. This INFJ has never felt much chemistry with ENFJs or common interests. They almost seem like knock off versions of ESTJs in some cases. Also, I sense some animosity between the two types as they seem to be critical of our less developed Fe and Se and we their Ni and Ti. I have felt much stronger chemistry with INTPs, ISTPs and ESTPs.
    Yeah, we take a looong time to perfect our Ni musings but the conclusions can be fascinating, profound and even world changing.

      Interesting.... I've always been attracted to ENFJs my whole life in almost all social interactions including friends, partners and family. Also infjs as close friends.

    I don't think it is accurate to say that ENFJ intuition is so quick and in the moment. That would be Ne and not Ni. ENFJs have Demonstrative Ne, in that position Ne is strong but not valued. We don't value quick pattern recognition for serious matters unless we do that slowly and internally and compare with our conceptual map (this is Ni). It is true that we try to apply our visions as soon as we have them. =)

    • @stevedavenport1202

      Irving Malcolm Cáceres Yeah, I think that ENFJs are very capable of more long term thinking than just the next 5 minutes. I think even most sensing types can think about the future further out than 5 minutes

    Better intuition than INFJs?

    • @ErikThor
      @ErikThor  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Better pattern recognition and better improvisation skills. Quicker intuition too. INFJs have a more theoretical, deep, speculative, long range intuition.

    • @haydeearroyo328
      @haydeearroyo328 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Erik Thor I think I know what you mean(t). ENFJs don't necessarily have quicker intuition, but it seems they are quicker to act on their intuition, because they don't really embrace intuition as much. That's because their focus is more on extroverted feeling. So, as long as they got, for argument sake, 20% of intuition on what might help the feeling on the moment, they'd just act on it. INFJs are honed in on intuition so, they kind of use their 20% of extraverted feeling to make sure their intuition pans out smoothly. Well, this is what I understood from what you've said anyhow.

    Im an ENFJ, and constantly rate people for their future potential 10-20 years out. Your analysis seems to be academic but please observe real people. even MBTIs are a ratio...i.e. someone can be 1percent difference E just above I and not necessarily mutually exclusive (not all or nothing).

    Wrong...the difference is that both are 100 similar see the enfj vs. Infj because all strengths are all the same. This video is wrong.

    • @ErikThor
      @ErikThor  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If they're both the same, then there's no need to have two types... + Do you completely ignore all research on introverts vs extraverts?

    • @fernman2162
      @fernman2162 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Erik Thor see the video link...enfj vs. Infj Info on you tube. He explains it better and explains why they are so similar based on functions using visuals as well. You are contradicting that research and I'm an ENFJ and my friend is an INFJ and we both feed on our similarities.

    • @fernman2162
      @fernman2162 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Erik Thor. See this link. I'm sorry but this explains it better, also He has another video even showing how the infj and enfj dating helps each other's strengths. Please see it. th-cam.com/video/3FOXtkgOesY/w-d-xo.html

    • @ErikThor
      @ErikThor  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's because that video focuses on other dimensions, similarities from both being judging, intuitive, and feeling types. There's tons of similiarities like I talk about in the video but if you focus on introversion vs extraversion you get the differences that I'm talking about.
