    Short Vizsla description:
    Vizsla is a well proportioned dog with a noble appearance. If they have a good diet, they are very muscular. The vizsla height is between 21 - 25 inches which is 53-64 cm and their weight is between 40-65 pounds which is 18-29 kg.
    The vizsla is famously known as the original velcro dog. They will just follow you everywhere, yes even to the bathroom. They want to do everything with their owners. Everywhere and all the time. If you are looking for a companion, that will be always by your side, i can guarantee you, that with Vizsla, you will never be alone.

    Viszla is one of my favorite breeds. I grew up with them. My great-uncle brought the first Vizsla from Hungary to New York State. This dog was only the 7th Vizsla in all the USA. My great-uncle raised them, bred them and hunted with them. Wonderful, loyal, energetic schutzhund. Fantastic dog!

    Once my vizsla followed me to the train station. I missed my exam that morning. Goofy dog.
    There face is uniquely expressive, very humanlike, reflects emotions very well.
    I had my vizsla in my apartment, I walked her 3x a day, and took her running 1x every day. They are clingy and freezing outside, they are the happiest in a small apartment for sure!

      Our first Vizsla (Sonia 1992 - 2004) loved running at the off leash park and enjoyed being chased by a group of dogs! If the dogs chasing her were keeping up she would thru it into a higher gear and if they still kept up she would turn at all most a 90 degree angle. I lost count of the number of times a greyhound would attempt to corner with her and wipe out!

    Bathing is the best. A quick towel off and they are good to go. I’ve had other short haired dogs over the years and even they had a period of time where their fur was damp.

    I had a Weimeraner dog and he died over 30 years ago and I have never been able to bring myself to get another dog. Recently I bought a Vizsla dog puppy - 8 weeks old - he is now 18 weeks old and I have some very interesting comparisons I have made. The Vizsla is very nervous - if I growl at him, he will piss himself and run off to this bed; I have to go to him and make up before he comes back out. He really doesn't like chastisement. Very, very affectionate and bonds very closely. He has adopted my wife a "Mum" and is very protective of her - if a strange approached her, he will start a low growl. The Werimeraner was also very family protective and would look after the family any time I was away with the Army but he did so in a not so obvious, manner. Both dogs I found have been very affectionate but the Vizsla is perhaps more demonstrative. Both are great with family members and I am surprised by the very quick way in which the Vizsla has taken to commands - he has picked them up very quickly, including sign commands. Both dog breads show great loyalty and affection; just in different ways. I'm surprised by the Vizlsa puppies memory - at 18 weeks he recalls many things we have done - especially if it resulted in him being chastised! I walk him with out a lead and any time I want him to change direction or not do something I only have to call his name and say NO - he immediate changes or stops what he was doing and comes to my side. Many people have been remarking on his control when we have been out. And yes - I love him.

    • @Rocadog
      @Rocadog  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow the recall at this young age is impressive! Great comparsion!

      @@Rocadog He's now three years old and my constant companion. Still walked/exercised off lead and he knows when and where to walk at heel. I take him to town when going for a coffee at a café and walk him in the main street off lead. I simply put my left hand open palm down by my side and say heel and he immediately comes to heel and stays there. At the café I tell him to sit and stay by an outside table while I go and order and he sits obediently waiting for me. [He loves getting food from the table hand fed to him]. I am constantly amazed by his intelligence and he vocalises a lot to me when he is trying to make me understand something he is trying to get across. Basically, if I watch and observe him [as much as he does to me] I can basically read his mind as he reads and anticipates me. Great dog. BTW, I walk him 12 km a day, every day in a park area and he "hunts" small game and birds there - 32 Blackbirds, 2 pigeons, 2 Starlings, 1 Mouse, I Rat, 1 Rabbit, 6 possums, 3 feral cats and a couple of sparrows. [I've been keeping score]. Man is he fast!

    Thank you so much for making this video! All the facts you said are correct the exact temperaments of both my Vizslas. They were almost extinct in World War II. And if they see a bird they all of a sudden become deaf and won't hear a word you say! 😂 they like to eat if you feed them they will keep eating until they explode lol. I love my Vizslas! I will always have a Vizsla in my family and a Labrador.

      @@Rocadog Oh yeah just like the English style chubby Labs they will literally eat your wallet if you let them lol. I never seen dogs eat so much until I got a Vizsla and a lab. Yes, I really enjoyed the video a lot thanks again for your kindness! 🙏🤟

      Our first Vizsla was on free feed all of her life and we never had a problem with her over eating, if she emptied her food dish she would fuss until the bowl was filled up again once it was filled she would leave the bowl alone until she got hungry again. Our second Vizsla we feed twice a day and she would have probably eaten food until she exploded.

      They are very similar to Labs. With little bit higher prey drive and more energy. Otherwise they are the same funny and goofy dogs :)

      I have one. He’s a bit older than 4 months. Very lazy when it’s cold and very cuddly. Seems very accurate.

    • @vestafreyja
      @vestafreyja 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is odd because there are a number of Vizsla breeders in Ontario (if I'm not mistaken most of the Vizsla breeders in Canada are based in Ontario), our first Vizsla was breed in (Just outside of Orangeville) Ontario, our second Vizsla was from Vancouver Island and in a few months we will be looking for our 3rd Vizsla. In Alberta when we got our first Vizsla in 1992 we would go 12 - 18 months without seeing another Vizsla at the dog park, now going to the same dog park it is odd not see several over the course of one week.
      They are a wonderful companion dog BUT if you are not prepared for the Velcro nature of the breed and the high energy level they possess then they are probably a very bad choice. When they are young they require plenty of exercise at least two visits to the dog park for at least an hour for the first 4 or 5 years of life. Our last Vizsla who we lost in early December 2019 at the age of 15 1/3 years was taken to the off leash park on a daily basis.

    • @cheyannesnyder5163
      @cheyannesnyder5163 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Vesta Freyja he goes to the park 2 times daily for 1-2 hours off leash and normally walked the 30 minutes to and from. Plus played with in the house. 15- 60 minutes depends on how tired I am. He doesn’t like the cold. It snowed so he’s more cuddly and lazy since it’s cold outside. Not I don’t take care of him. He’s not over weight or not exercised don’t assume I’m not taking care of my vizsla. I also have 2 bearded collies he plays with.

      @@cheyannesnyder5163 I'm sorry if you thought the last part of my comment was directed towards you it wasn't; it was directed towards casual readers of the comment section who might be thinking about getting a Vizsla because of their appearance.
      Both of our Vizsla's hated the cold and would give us nasty looks if we took them outside when it was cold, snowing or raining. It's like they looked at you as if to say "Well you are the Alpha of the pack do something about the weather!".
      When our second Vizsla was being shown by us at an outdoor show so many years ago we had our spot next to a woman who had some wonderful looking Standard Poodles after we had put our Vizsla on the grooming table for 30 seconds and used a hound mitt to groom her we commented how little it takes to get her ready for the show ring. The woman with the Standard Poodles commented well at least with the poodle the only thing that is high maintenance about the poodle is the coat unlike the Vizsla. We laughed because we could not agree with her more!

If you want to call these beautiful dogs "Wizsla's" then why doesn't the breeders association officially change their name to "Wizsla" and call them that. But until this ever happens, which it won't, then these beauties are still going to be called "VIZSLA'S" as far as I'm concerned,!!!
