      They are very special beings, so affectionate, so loyal and at the same time so crazy :) The Hungarians are very proud of this breed and not without reason. And to think they were almost extinct because of political causes, it's scary. Thanks for your words. Only a Vizsla owner can understand a Vizsla owner :)

      @@cooperalexandergarcia7531 Thank you for responding to my comment. We are blessed to know the magical beings called vizsla. They’re really special. I get a kick out of reading comments other vizsla owners write about their vizslas. @@cooperalexandergarcia7531 My nephew owned a clever, lovely, well trained vizsla (or the vizsla owned him). She was a very beloved, devoted special soul of dog. Unfortunately my nephew is gone young, less then 40 yo. His vizsla died short after him. She couldn't live without him, just laid sadly in his favorite armchair for awhile. We could not do anything to comfort her, she lost her will of life.
      I am Hungarian and glad that so many of her breed give joy to humans.

    They are the best if you have the energy to keep up with them. They are sweethearts and full of love. Yes most dogs are full of love. Oh yeah, they are incredibly quick, agile and sweet. Yes they will always come back to you but might go the long way to make sure they do t miss a smell or adventure or small animal to hunt. Great dogs. So are GSPs.

    This is a lovely breed of dog that ticks a lot of the boxs as a k9 companion or family pet. Smart as in clever, short haired means no hairy stuff everywhere, nice size, not too big and not too small. I always loved Labradors but I have to say I do really like this breed. Someone in my area has one and it is a real head turner because of its perfect proportions, lovely colour and happy attitude. As I say it ticks all the box's. The best thing to come out of Hungary since Goulash.!

      😊 It is a wonderful breed, indeed, not for all tastes, though, as it's so full of energy and also requires ti be kept indoors, due to their lack of under-woolly coat. But it is a very healthy breed, generally speaking, although some allergies have been reported. Back at home, they will be the most lovely cuddlers ever and since they're always cold, the appreciate very much human physical contact. Totally agree with you, best gift from Hungary to the world 😊

    To this day he always comes up to me to cuddle and as a pupper he'd always choose to sleep in my bed

      Hi Peter, well in fact I know many owners of senior Vizslas and they say exactly the same... these dogs have an everlasting energy, not even when they are old they get quiet. I guess it comes with the territory when you belong to a hunting breed. And they tend to be very healthy as well. I think the Hungarian made an excellent job developing this breed. I love my two pooches to the moon and back and can't stop getting amazed by their intelligence and beauty.

    Great video. I love this breed. Im looking at getting a dog in the next 6 months or so. I do have some questions about the vizsla. I am aware that they are high energy, but what is "high"? Ive seen some people say that you shouldnt get a vizsla unless you have acres of land and can give the dog 3+ hours of exercise per day. That just seems ridiculous and exaggerated. How much exercise do they truly need? 1 hour, 1.5 hours daily? And my second question is about off-leash outdoor activities. I am always out hiking, fishing, or on a boat, and am wondering if they make good off leash companions for these kinds of things. Do they have good recall? Will they do fine on a boat?

    • @cooperalexandergarcia7531
      @cooperalexandergarcia7531  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello my dear friend! I'm delighted to learn you're in the lookout for one of these angels.
      First of all... exercise... a huge myth. They do need to exercise but not several hours a day. I'd say, the same as us. The important thing is that challenge them on an intelectual level more than anything else. It's what matters the most, so A LOT of education, instructions, tricks, playtime. Yes, they need to learn how to follow instructions and this has to happen at a very early stage. 3 months as a minimum. Apart from that, they will be a couch potato. (Or a leg potato, to be honest).
      Watch out two VERY important things: get your pooch from a GOOD and professional breeder, who will surely give you good advice and supervision, and ensure your pup will not be away from his o her mother before he or she is 3 months old. VERY critical, as the mother will teach the pup many social skills and plays a fundamental part of their education and self-esteem and manners. The other thing, make sure you keep a GOOD socialization with GOOD dogs at least until your pup is 1,5 years old. It's quite the job but is instrumental. If you need a dog trainer to give you guidance, don't hesitate. These dogs are extremely loyal, smart, affectionate and will go great lengths to please you, but when poorly socialized, they can be a problem (as most o the dogs). A good breeder will make sure you don't make these mistakes.
      Other than that, their disposition to be with you and be your partner in crime in whatever mission you want, is endless.You're in for a beautiful experience. Enjoy it and please keep us posted

    I'm on my second Vizsla she is currently 14 years 1 month old and she still has her crazy moments. They are the best breed ever only if you know what you a getting; if you don't then they are probably the worst possible breed. They require/demand constant attention; they require at least 1 hour exercise daily. Training is very easy BUT you must a very little touch if they are to be corrected. They respond to positive reinforcement when training. For our girl the firmest correction we use on her is "No!".

    • @cooperalexandergarcia7531
      @cooperalexandergarcia7531  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dear Vesta, Impressive! 14! It means you have taken very good care of her. Congratulations! I couldn't agree more on what you say. Given the proper attention, exercise and education, this is the best dog ever. But I could say this works too for any dog, because sometimes people neglect their pet's education and it can lead to an uncontrolled animal that can be a problem and a lot of people decide to get rid of them because of that. I wish every owner could have the same view and commitment as you do. Bless you and your Vizsla

      Oh, dear friend. There's not much to do to ease that pain, I unfortunately know... only time helps getting used to their absence, a bit only, though. But forgetting is something never happens. Although it does help when you think about their roles in your life and yours in theirs; these angels don't last the same as us because they're required to teach you something very valuable and then going to a better place than this one where they're always understood and free, and can watch over you. Please do reach out whenever you feel to. Our hearts and good energy go to you and your family. Bless you and the little angel.

    I have a question ... I‘m thinking about buying a viszla at some point. I heard they are very affectionate and want to please their owner. They are also very sporty, which would also suit me (like to be outside and ride my bike). Is their hunting instinct very strong, so that it is more difficult to train them?

    • @cooperalexandergarcia7531
      @cooperalexandergarcia7531  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Linda! Oh it's so nice to learn you want to add an angel like this to your life. Regarding the hunting instinct, well, that's difficult to predict as every individual is unique and some can have stronger inclination to follow what their genes say... however, in our experience, and even though Cooper was a rescue from a hunter who had already taught him tough things about "the activity", with a lot of effort and time, he is able to control his need for chasing birds on our command. What we do, though, is we let them chase some, but only when we say so. It's taken a lot of perseverance, treats (which in his case, he's so affectionate that his payment is love). The key is teaching them a lot of different things too so he expands his mind and gives more importance to follow your command and strengthen his bong with you. You always have to be more important than any bird, ball or even food. A word of advice: make sure you socialize him with GOOD dogs very well at at young age, many people, places. This means a lot of time outside putting in his little head many positive experiences. Vizslas are super sensitive souls and tend to acquire fears easily. Please reach out at any moment if you feel you need to, I'm very happy to share all I've learnt from both my personal and professional experience. Happy dogging!

    • @cooperalexandergarcia7531
      @cooperalexandergarcia7531  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well, that depends on the one you get and the education you give to him or her. Our Cooper didn't like too much cats when we adopted him, but with time he's learnt to ignore them. The girl, Diana, was raised with a cat, so she's OK with them, although it's hard to predict whether yours will get along or not. The cat himself has to be friendly too :) If you get a puppy and teach him or her since a baby, you'll have more chances to be successful at this. Please tell me how it went! Good luck!

      This breed is well known too for their excellent sense of smell. By the look of their long muzzle you could say so too. Mine are very good at finding things and food I hide from them when we play the "search" game. For now, it's all I've tried to test their capabilities and they have never let me down :) Have a great day!

      Totally agree! But I'd say every dog needs education. Enough with this information on the internet about genius dogs that you don't have to train or teach anything. People get the wrong idea, buy a pooch and abandon them the next. All breeds need training. Thanks and have a great day!

      Oh there's nothing bad about your English, my friend. It's true that Vizslas cannot stand being outdoors like other dogs, but I know of plenty of them who live in very cold places or go through wintertime just fine, and they are happy members of their families. They have to take some measures though and of course, they won't let the dogs to sleep outside. Vizslas make wonderful pillows and blankets, by the way 😊 But of course everyone has to make sure they're giving the best conditions to their dogs, so it's good you take in consideration their needs 😊 Thank you

    do they drool much is there mouths soggy?

    • @cooperalexandergarcia7531
      @cooperalexandergarcia7531  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No, they don't drool too much, I mean, the "normal" for any other dog like German Shepherds, poodles or labradors, but within regular amounts. It's not at all like, for instance, Great Danes or Bull dogs. It's true that their lips seem a bit soggy but it's just a tine part and this doesn't make them droll at all, except for when they are too hungry and like the food you give them :)
      These are amazing dogs but they are not for everyone. They do require exercise and patient discipline, as they are a bit stubborn (as any hunter is, given the determination they have to have naturally to accomplish their tasks), and they can become destructive when left alone, as they suffer a lot from separation issues. This is a dog that won't leave your side. Or your lap, if you let them. Seriously, they need physical and true contact. "Velcro dog" is not a legend or exaggeration for this breed. They really need to stick to you. And they seriously prefer to sleep under the sheets. If there are the same as yours, even better ;)

      My female Vizsla is very special too. She growls if she feels her space is being invaded. She endured a difficult time when young. I've searched for help with ethologists, trainers and every man and his dog. I've been accumulating a certain amount of information, tips and strategies, I must say, as non of them actually helped. Every dog is different. It doesn't mean she doesn't love you. But so far, what has helped the most is not looking for her affection; we wait until she is in "good mood". Never push her. It's the very first time in my life I have a dog with this character, but she's so smart and learns so fast. She's very sensible too, I take this is one of the causes. I'd say, if you let me, give her her space and wait until she longs for your affection. She will eventually. The male has always been as sweet as sugar and can't stand being far from us. Has never growled at us. I guess they're entitled to they own personality; please do let me know if you wish to talk this thoroughly. I think I can help. There are other things we have done that have improved our relationship. All the best.

    Not all Vizslas are good dogs, it depends on how you train them. I honestly don't like them for many reasons but that's my opinion.

    • @cooperalexandergarcia7531
      @cooperalexandergarcia7531  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you Brooke for your opinion. I agree with you in the sense that every dog requires education and sometimes people don't understand that some dogs don't suit everyone. But from the genetic point of view, there are traits that breeders have selected in specific breeds and this is how you find most of the individuals of that specific breed have them. Vizslas were specifically selected to hunt very close to their masters and to require a lot of physical contact. That's why most individuals show this need to be close to humans. I'm curious though to learn those "many reasons" why you don't like them. Thank you
