I’ve had 2 Thai gf’s in the past decade and stayed with them for 4 years each. One bar girl and the other a good respectable woman, at the end of the day when I acted like money was going to be an issue to test them they left within a week. From my experiences I’ve learnt that love in Thailand is nothing more than fantasy. As he says in his video by all means go enjoy the fruits of Pattaya and nana and if you stay to long it will eat you up inside, I’d say that goes for all relationships in Thailand wether she comes from a bar or has graduated university and has a career.
Yep! Fellow Dub here... My 40th birthday in 2023, I decided to treat myself to a 2-week holiday to Bangkok for some street photography (after having lived there for 4 years prior to the pandemic, in Bang Sue, and loved it). It was a great trip and I would have had zero regrets if it wasn't for the last few nights when I ended up trying to photograph Nana ("I'm smart and on top of things") Exactly what you said, no matter how smart and strong-willed you are, after enough drinks in a place like that, your whole world can turn upside down. Don't get me wrong, when I viewed what I had photographed in the days following I was super happy, but the hole in my pocket, the anxiety of trying to piece together what "actually" happened, and the few days of that heavy feeling from the pit of my stomach to the top of my chest was definitely NOT worth it. I couldn't imagine what the lives are like of those many "heroes" that spend their eternity there. Dog bless you all.
I have lived in Thailand seven years and for me Nana was a one time visit. The music was loud, most tourist's were loud, drunk and acting stupid. For the girls working there, the men are easy marks. Too much alcohol and big egos are a bad combination. It was entertaining to watch, but I doubt I will ever go back.
I honestly don't enjoy Nana, When I went there in the past, I would get so drunk that I had little or no memory of the woman I was with. But my wallet didn't lie.
Feel you, mate. Same experience last month. Hadn’t been back to NANA since 2019. Maybe I hadn’t had enough beer, but let’s say the experience was far from memorable. Couple of beers here and there and I walked out. Been coming to NANA off and on since 1995, and I can confidently report that I’m over it. Thanks for your insights. Take care.
I go to Nana as an escape when spending too much time in Pattaya. You dont need to spend a fortune in Nana to have a gpod time. If you ST or buy Lady drinks, yep! But playing pool in Morning night and eating food from the vendors outside, you can have a bloody good time for under 1k bt👍🏻 Try that in Dublin😊
Nana was the first place me and my brother went to when getting off the plane for the first time back in 2002. We frequented the bar which is now Hooters. It was totally different vibes back then and affordable. We had a ball and struggled to spend our money. Move forward 22 years and I was there with a Thai friend a few months ago out of curiosity. Ive been many times on and off over the years but this time was very different. I found the whole place to be dark, seedy and not very comfortable in the vibes given off. Im sure it and I have changed over the years and I should appreciate the good memories from the early 2000`s
Informative channel spoken from the heart. As someone who has chosen to live in Thailand, your view has naturally changed. I have found Thailand to be what you make of it as a tourist. If partying and girls are what you look for, without understanding the culture, well somewhere along the line… It’s perfectly possible to have good d nights out for less than 2000 Bhat. Bangkok and Phuket are more expensive than Pattaya . Do the research, be respectful, and a great inexpensive time can be had.
I'm here right now, and after being all around Bangkok over the past 2 weeks, I'll tell ya this: The rooms are nicer, more plentiful, and cheaper than they are elsewhere in Bangkok, and there is laundry on every corner, all things else excluded, those are two huge considerations that are great and makes staying here preferable to much of the rest of the city.
Out of curiosity I visited the infamous plaza on my first visit to Thailand 6 years ago but fully aware what the place was about and that I was in a capitol city. My instant first impression after sitting down in one of the bars and before I'd got my first drink on the table being asked, 'You buy me dlink?'' was that it's a broken car wash stuck on the rinse cycle. So I've been there, done that but didn't even bother 'buying the T-shirt'. Went in sober but after the overwhelming constant 'grabalicios' antics, left after half an hour. Back to my hotel in soi 4 via a couple of bars and picking up a very tasty and satisfying 'take away' off the soi.
I decided to go to Nana Friday night also, last time I was there was about 4 years ago, I don't drink and left after about 20 minutes get away from the noise and the grime.
I think a lot of men go to these places knowing fully well what they’re getting into they are looking for the intoxicating vibe from the women. They are enjoying all the lies about how handsome they are lol and they just want to have the experience knowing it is a complete fantasy.
Ive been visiting Nana for 30 years fantastic place and over the years built up many Thai friendships there, Nana coffee shop was awesome back in the day so was the Nana disco,Ive lost count of the wonderful liaisons I've had with girls working in Nana over the years but this guy is definitely not cut out for it..
When I lived in Bangkok there was an expat bar called jools which we used to frequent after work. A few of us had wives or regular Thai girlfriends who would meet us there and the beer was normal price. That bar moved up to Khaosan road and now Nana has yet one more seven eleven.
Your right about holiday makers spend what they like because maybe they've saved up all year to go on holiday for 2 weeks. It's a bit different for pensioners like myself.
Great video and interesting insight. I will say, if you are a man with normal levels of testosterone that has been neglected on an intimate level by women in the west for years....100% go to Nana for 2 or 3 days and then head to Pattaya for a week or so. Keep your wits about you because it is a total debaucherously raunchy fairy tale. Then after you have had your fun, settle in to the normal parts of Thailand. I am speaking from personal experience. Nana and Pattaya was just what the doctor ordered for me. Yes, I did blow a couple of hundred quid per night and yes it was worth every single penny. With all that being said, no way I could live that lifestyle long term. Maybe once a year for me. It is a fantastic place to go and let loose.
It's like any kind of shopping. If you want to look, look. If you want to buy, buy. Same is true at the mall. But I won't say you need to avoid the mall. Go if you want, if not, don't.
reminds me of an experience walking the strip at vegas. lots of places to eat, but one patio was popular. a very high priced menu was painted clearly on the wall. I wondered if this was just vegas gouging their visitors. when I decided to go ahead and eat there, ths prices were very reasonable. I never could understand that. just don't read the vegas signs. ask.
Excellent point. It would be good if you can make vlogs on alternative areas avoiding Nana, Kaosan Rd, soi cowboy etc. You mentioned Rachida area, any other areas comparatively peaceful and not hyped up.
I spent a total of 10 seconds in Nana and quickly fled. The same goes for Soi Cowboy. It reminded me of the Red Light District in my city, Amsterdam. Tourist hellholes. I prefer to visit smaller bars with more personal contact. Much more fun and enjoyable." Nice women are everywhere in Thailand
If your not going to go to nana plaza in Bkk. Don't bother holidaying in Thailand, yes it's mad and another planet, but you only live once, enjoy the night life and don't be stupid, 😂😂
I think NANA as a district is fine for the most part soi 4 and Nana Plaza is where the real crazy shit happens. I usually stay in SOI 8 in Nana and it's a really quiet street with maybe one or two really small bars but it's mainly a hotel street with a few resturants such as Monsoon and Det 5 which I really love to eat at. I have had no issue avoiding the crazy stuff staying there but walk down SOI 6 and especially Soi 4 with Nana Plaza is a street I tend to avoid.
Dave my friend, in Punnawithi and On Nut you get a Guinness from 711 in a can. I know is not original like from the Tap but I am fine with it to be honest, I love your view how you see BKK and Thailand in general. We should meet up one day in the city!
@trendtradertrender4328 but you can't take that can inside the bar. You're paying for the ambience and atmosphere. As long as you do it as a tourist within a budget you can splurge.
In the old days I used to go out in Nana extremely often for years. It would typically cost me 200 to 500 baht for a whole night of drinking in my favourite gogo-bar(s). Because I knew so many girls and mama-sans : they secretly filled my drink the whole evening, I just had to buy a drink once in a while to fool the owner enough. When they had a language question, wanted advice,... they would come ask me. That's the advantage of being able to speak, read, write Thai. An ex-Nana mama-san is still one of my best friends after knowing each other for more than 30 years.
you can probably buy a entry level laptop that will last 2 years or more for the same amount than a night out in a girly bar for a few hours if you buy her drinks and take her out of the bar for an hour.
No joke, have you ever considered getting prescription sunglasses? Seems painful to have the sun maginfied into you eyes. I've had a pair of Ray Bans with prescription lenses for many years. Love them.

A pint of Guinness in the equivalent place in London would be at least double. Ladies in London, on the compensated dating side of things would 10 to 15 * more, Dont fall in to expat trap of getting irked by farangs throwing their money around like drunken sailors

As a resident of Pattaya who does NOT drink, your observation is always interesting. I've never been to Walking Street during the night and I'm fine.

Spot on. If you lived in Florida, would you go to Disneyland every month? Week? Day?
@ZENbulldozer I think you mean Disneyworld. Disneyland is in Anaheim, California.

FYI a pint of Guinness at temple bar in 2024 was 9.95 Euros so the price in Nana seems on par with that.

Huai Khwang
So why go? You know what your getting into your paying for the entertainment 😂
Same in Bali. They charge western prices to westerners. It’s just business. They don’t leave money on the table.
Guinness has to be imported. Hoegaarden is 10$ too same in Spain with Guinness
I paid about the same for Guinness in Omalleys irish bar in Ao Nang so I guess draft is expensive in Thailand.
I love Guinness but certainly it’s not a drink I’d have in Asia
1. It tastes like muck
2. It’s 5 x the Price of a local beer
But drinking in Nana is like having a drink in Leicester Square or Darling Harbour in Sydney

Great fun for a 2-3 Day Stopover but that’s it

190 baht is the price for your bar girl to sit with you and have a drink, the beers are still around 100-120 baht a bottle for Chang and Leo

A pint of Guinness in the equivalent place in London would be at least double. Ladies in London, on the compensated dating side of things would 10 to 15 * more, Dont fall in to expat trap of getting irked by farangs throwing their money around like drunken sailors
