I never have a clean environment around me. Our son lives at home and brings cookies, Pringles, etc. home all the time. My husband lost the weight he needed to lose through WFPB eating and brought his body into a more healthful state so now has become less strict. He also frequently buys coupons to restaurants where it is difficult to eat as plant based as I prefer. Aside from struggling with osteoarthritis, my health remains pretty good except for my weight. It is the New Year and I thank you for the hope of success evident by what both you and your guests have accomplished. Bringing hope to others is a good thing!! Louise J

I used the month of December as an excuse to overeat and gained several pounds. Getting back on track today 1/1/24.

It was so true for me, that something may not bother you when you are starting out, but then slowly over time your defenses are weakened. When I first started my WFPB journey a year ago, nothing that was in my house bothered me. There were a lot of leftover treats and desserts in the house for my kids and I wasn’t the least bit tempted to eat any of it. I went months with nothing tempting me, and then somewhere a long the line I ate something that I probably shouldn’t have and then slowly I started snitching things that were around more and more. One of my goals this year is to clean up my environment more.

Beautiful Chef AJ as always. Thank you for keeping us on track. The one thing I have to watch out for is junk food bullies. They can't get me with booze (they do with other people) but they try and get me with anything vegan. Only happy if I'm carrying extra weight. Doesn't like my slim. Calls me skinny and too skinny. Don't lose anymore weight etc. Can keep our home junk free so that's a blessing. Only eating outside the house doesn't work. Over 3 years I gained weight slowly and suddenly realised I gained still thinking I was eating wfpb. Have to be strict and then it really is only occasionally that we eat sos meals out. I had a birthday party and had treats. Boy I felt ill. It's not worth it.

So true about the awkward moments where someone says, “one bite won’t hurt”. I’ve started to respond, “yes, it will!” I try to get physically distant from the temptation. I say I’m full. I sometimes blurt out “cancer” or “diarrhea” mostly to remind myself that it’s not worth it. I never ever want to go through a year of chemo and radiation again! Stay strong y’all🩷

navigated food addiction myself, this vid resonates. a clean environment played a role in my journey. Aspect Health, in passing, brings holistic vibes. overcoming temptations takes time, but the longer you stay compliant, the stronger you become. supporting each other in a pantry clean-up challenge sounds great. simple recipes like air fryer Brussels sprouts made my sweet tooth happier. creating a supportive space is key for lasting change. cheers to everyone on this journey!

Wow , just yesterday my grandson and I were at the grocery store. We decided to have a cheat treat for New Year’s lol. What we both did was choose a single serving item, so for us that works!! BECAUSE, if it’s in the house it IS in my mouth! I don’t know what I would do if I lived with someone who ate sweets or chips in the kitchen 😳 I told my grandson that if he brings chips or sweets in the house, just put it in his room. I PLAN for cheats and keep them rare. Holidays, birthdays I allow myself more leeway and just plan to eat what I want on those days. It has worked for me thank God lol. I think I’m very fortunate in that I’ve always loved vegetables and fruits. I was always my mom’s best eater and loved canned spinach growing up 😂 I never knew people ate it raw, which I prefer now! We ate the sad diet growing up in the deep south, but always had fruits and vegetables as part of our diet also 💜 Happy new year ladies 🎊🎉🎈

My husband refuses to not bring junk food in the house. He thinks I’m trying to be controlling if I ask him to stop bringing it home. He survives off of junk. He says it’s my responsibility to make sure I don’t eat it if I don’t want it. It’s still possible for me to be strict, but it’s frustrating. 😒

I can’t even get cheese fully out of the house. For me cheese = hives. If I’m tempted, I walk away fast with tiny screaming. It helps me reset the urge. He (and some of the kids) just want it. It feels so unfair. They won’t do a lock box. They don’t even put toilet paper on the roller. I just keep living the best healthiest life I can. Not sure what else to do about it! 💜

Sadly I truly believe that anyone who refuses to eliminate junk, dairy, meat, etc, for their loved ones are only refusing because they are addicted to those items. But they don’t understand or believe that to be the case

I so appreciate all of your honesty with your trials about food addiction and you have given me hope -and some great ideas- to make 2024 a year for a new beginning. It is hard living with someone who does not eat like this and brings “the Junk” into the house. I too will be reading The Pleasure Trap starting January 1st. Thank you for having this evening of conversation- it has been uplifting and great!

We are a family of six. I’m the only female. One adult child is vegan. They all eat my food and food prep. Four also eat SAD diet because my husband says he “just can’t “. He will even offer me food that will cause me hives because he just does not understand. Keep the faith. You are worth it! I’m still trying to figure things out, and I feel great.(and look good) 😁

So interesting ❤, I am a recovered alcoholic, my problems are more to do with chemical addiction but food can be a problem too, I lose my appetite, nothing tastes good, then I eat a bit too much junk but I have bought a steamer and eating sweet potatoes right now but I have to have some oil, otherwise they taste awful, maybe I need an airfryer, I am a awful cook, I hate it, whatever I try to make tastes awful except my simple steamed vegetables or 2 or 3 ingredient rocket salad! But I love my chilli chips from the supermarket, unless I have little appetite then don't like, they taste nasty!

I'm fortunate I prefer 100% unsweetened dark chocolate - anything less concentrated tastes waxy and way too sweet (I prefer bitter chocolate), so it's not a temptation.

I consider the oat flour clean, but I could be wrong. I know it’s a step healthier than traditional white flour.

I’m wondering if any of you have considered hypnotherapy to become indifferent to the oils, sugars and animal products? While training your subconscious to desire the healthy, vegan and gluten free McDougall compliant foods and to only eat to satisfaction?
I’m a weight loss Hypnotherapist and I see people via zoom. My clients get great results by addressing the problem in this way.
Some people have extremely deep seeded emotional issues that cause them to hold on to weight subconsciously. Children who have been abused in any way will often believe that when they are “big” they will be able to protect themselves. As adults their logical mind cannot override the emotional mind that holds this belief.
The worse part is that we don’t even know that we formed this subconscious belief in childhood and it’s still with us today.
For those who are struggling to do this repeatedly… consider hypnotherapy.

Dr Greger talks about cranberry powder for bladder control.
Quick Google: A study from Weill Cornell Medicine in New York, New York, and colleagues reported in the Journal of Urology found using dried cranberry showed a reduction of the number of bathroom trips in patients who received the dried cranberry compared to those who received placebo (fake cranberry).
Might be in his new book. Haven't read that far yet.
