    It’s even steeper than it looks, especially at 2:10. That’s where I fell and backwards rolly-polly’d down the whole thing. Maybe In a few years I’ll have the confidence to give it another shot. After a dozen skiing holidays it’s definitely the hardest run I’ve come across

    hardest part seems to be the entrance. the rest is basically laid out for you. either way a very tense and fun run

    • @alexrt9255
      @alexrt9255 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think you don’t realize how steep it is (80% sometimes)

    • @julienmka9592
      @julienmka9592 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@alexrt9255 80% is "only" a 38° slope, this is steep for sure, but not that steep. As a comparison the famous Bec des Rosses In Verbier have a 50° slope, so 120% and competitors of the FWT are going really fats on it.

    Done this run many times, even before it was marked on Piste maps as a run.
    Also the Couloir to the left of the narrow path at the start which takes you down toward Meribel. I’ve done that one twice before, both times it looked fine from the top, and both times on the first few turns you realise the snow is a wafer thin veneer covering stones and rocks, wrecks your skis at best, and at worst can easily unbalance you and send you tumbling, I got ‘lucky’ both times and just wrecked my skis!
    One afternoon, after a day & a half of skiing with my (now) wife on the blues and greens, she went into ski school, and I was let off the leash. I did all the chutes that run under the cable car and along toward the Grand, and the one the other side of the grand that you have to walk up and over to after traversing into and staying high up in the Grand. The fun one was getting out of the cable car clocking the car operator, then skiing down the chute under it, and racing the car down and being at the front of the queue when the doors opened (it wasn’t busy) and the cable car operator clocked me and you could tell he was thinking ‘wait, you just got out at the top’ ...that was a great afternoon!

    I did it yesterday and honestly I completely messed up. However It is more psychological than actually terrible. Falling there is probably not that bad since there is a lot of powder. The most impressive part is the beginning, if you do not control your speed you can fall very badly. Great experience. This is almost the only « true » old school slope on the 3 vallees.

    nice skirun, snow looked in good condition. You attacked the bumps lower down on the skirun with a bit of pace, looked awesome

    I wish I could ski this one day.. that peak entrance looks insane! Has anyone ever fallen off it?

      skied it multiple times in circa '92 on 205 SL skis on a lovely holiday in Mottaret. Yes, I nearly shit myself. Worth it for the GC.

    Is the first part actually that dangerous? Or if I just try and do it slowly there's really no risk?

    The one run in courchevel I never picked up the courage to do... Determined to do it next time though aha;) if you're looking for challenging blacks in that area your best best is "M"... Down right from the cable car it's in the sun all day long and always seems to be quieter than the couloir

  • @rj4jammin
    @rj4jammin  11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Yeah they would be perfect, iv done this run the last time I was here on racing skis so probably any type of ski would be fine, but all mountain skis preferable

      @rj4jammin  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Thomas Baird I hope so! Id feel bad for my lack of advice- basically for the first section controlling your speed is key- you dont want to be out of control along the traverse.

    is this really an official piste? Can you compare this descend with the off-piste Mon Vallon in Meribel or the Masse 2 in Les Menuires? ive done those two but im in doubt of doing the couloir. Can you tell me please? I would much appreciate it :)

    • @rj4jammin
      @rj4jammin  11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah its a famous piste, a must do! Don't worry if you can do the off-piste Mont Vallon you should be able to ski the couloir, same technique- give it a shot :)

    • @basdevil
      @basdevil 11 ปีที่แล้ว

      thnx for your reaction! I'll keep the couloir in mind next year when i go back to les trois vallees.

    • @basdevil
      @basdevil 11 ปีที่แล้ว

      And i saw on the map there was another piste the couloir tournier to meribel. Wich one is the hardest? The grand couloir or the tournier?

    • @rj4jammin
      @rj4jammin  11 ปีที่แล้ว

      basdevil I did tournier 3 years ago before it was an official piste on racing skis. From what I can remember it might have been slightly steeper in places but much shorter I remember it being slightly harder than the grand couloir but that was because back then it was off-piste.

    what happens if you fall

    • @bartman2395
      @bartman2395 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      you fall till you are at the bottom... propably alive, with broken bones if snow was hard...

    • @bartman2395
      @bartman2395 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      if you fall during first 30 seconds you are propably not alive btw:)

    I skied it, but when I was there it was foggy so it was not really that scary.

  • @petermartin9494
    @petermartin9494 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Been down that way once. Turned right after getting out of the cable car but for some reason everyone apart from me and my buddy turned left. Skied down it and did not see anyone else. Dunno why, maybe it is because it was a cloudy day...
    I didn't think the first part was a big deal, it looks a lot more scary in the video than it did in real life.

    • @rj4jammin
      @rj4jammin  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Peter Martin I didnt find the top section too scary also. It depends on the day- some days its more rutted than others

    • @Masculum_et_superbus_esse
      @Masculum_et_superbus_esse 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      A snowboard in these moguls? it's a joke! and I don't speak about the track at the beginning to access the slope ! quiet deadly if you loose control! I did it twice on skis and you must be focused on it at least at 100%. Finally I prefer the "jean Blanc" for the moguls. It's as challenging , but at least you feel safer doing it.
