Fert$mart Planning in Dairy

Fertiliser decisions are helped by knowing the soil fertility over the whole farm, understanding trends in nutrient accumulation and extraction.
A Fert$mart plan developed by Dairy Australia goes through the steps to understanding soil fertility better. It starts with soil testing the management zones within the farm, understanding that each zone has different potential to produce forage and that grazing patterns affect nutrient removal and nutrient deposition from imported supplements.
George Tiedeman, Dairy Farmer at Wingham, with his father Guy, recently undertook a Fert$mart plan with Josh Hack of AgFarmingSystems. Here they discuss the results, the benefits and what they plan to do in future.
