@Charly Mathieu - There is no trick to blocking other than experience. Just making sure you are holding BACK as in the direction away from your opponent. So you are walking backwards while your opponent is attacking you.
i do appreciate the time you have taken to explain the basics and more of the advanced techniques. I just recently acquired my first stick that i modded and doing my best to figure out plinking, kara throws, mix ups etc. these tutorials help greatly on my game. Thanks!
@Zmoney2006 Haha no you're right, my friends always mention how it doesn't sound like me at all when they watch my videos. I am doing all these videos literally by myself and I try to do it off the top of my head with a bullet point sheet. So I am really focused when I explain things while watching the camera. If I had a friend helping me ( I don't wana bug them out of their free time ) I could ease up a bit more. Whoever is reading this I read every single compliment. I enjoy helping people.
@VesperArcade I like your tone and pace. I don't find the mood boring or anything when watching these vids. You're clear and it's easy to follow. Great job man.
@dvsjaymusic I started playing fighting games in the arcade 10 years ago. I think I played sf II on my snes when I was a kid like 15 years ago or something.
Hey Vesper man PLEASE don't take what I am about to say the wrong way. Dude you are one of the best Street Fighter Players I have ever seen and you are by FAR amazing at what you do and because of that I thank you so much for making these videos for scrubs/newcomers like me out here and giving us a chance at getting some real talent and skills under our belts. But dude, while the content of these videos are extremely helpful I can't help but feel that there is a lack of excitement or care in
@IceSick88 Are you being sarcastic? There are many defensive options like backdashing, reversals, Focusing, and even throwing. Check out my chapter 4 tutorial for more.
A little advice to people starting out and watching this video, be sure to know that your opponent doesn't have a Air Target Combo before you switch from high to low guard, because when he jumps and attacks you think it's only one attack and you block low then he uses another high attack (from his target combo).
hey :D i have now watched chapter 1-5 and i think im gonna get sf again :D the last time i played it was when i was little and that was sf 1 and 2 on Sega xD Now everything improved and your combos are just sick Oo Thanks for the Tutorial i hope that i can learn fastly from you and maybe become so good like you haha
i hpe this helps a lot, i've been plaing fighting games my whole life, and love them, i'm just realy realy bad at them. thank you veyr much for posting these videos, are these just the same ones form the dvds on the website?
your voice and your demeanor. It just seems like these vids are kinda being well... forced out rather than you truly wanting to make them. Now I don't know the circumstances behind you making these videos and again I thank you very much for making them but dude, show a little excitement about it. I feel like I'm imposing myself on you for training although I've never even met you lol. You know what I'm saying? Well anyway, thanks again for these vids dude and god bless man.
You can do it while your opponent is waking up or when he has not the chance of hitting you with an uppercut. You better be close to him when you do it.
Well sure it's an opinion but you can't say that he sounds very excited. It makes a big difference how he's speaking, if he would sound less bored, it would also be more fun to watch, that's a fact. Of course he's not going to re-record all of these but he'll have to TALK to people in the future, knowing how to speak to get people interested is a basic and valuable skill to have.
@VesperArcade One simple question for blocking, some attacks are hard to tell which side they will land on and in essence u end up blocking the wrong way and it leads to either big damage or the end of the match. I know about safe jumps but the biggest problem I have is blocking ken's ex air tatsu, it looks like he can only attack u from the front but the ex tatsu some of the times ends up behind me and sometimes lose the match because of it, can you give tips on how to block that properly
@VesperArcade NO i wasent. it was just really funny the way you said it. i watched all your tutorials already mainly because ive been watching your hands. the way pro players hold the stick, what fingers you use on what buttons ect. im building a new stick.
when I started playing a few months ago, i kept thinking it was impossible to get a perfect, because of chip damage. And when I thought turtling is the only way to win, and then all fireball players would just stand there and chuck fireballs. oh how I've changed.
Hi, I recently bought USFIV, and I'm a complete beginner. Your tutorial channel is one of the best I found, thank you for that. I feel really stupid, because I'm not able to block anything, I think I'm missing something. I've read all commands and watch this video but I still can't. Is there a button or something I might miss ? Thank you
I know this reply is 9 years late, but try crouch blocking whenever you’re opponent is on the ground and standing block whenever they are jumping at you. Always switch to crouch block as soon as they land though.
Thank freaking u!!!!!!! Now I can block that crappy blanka ball that false over your shoulder thanks ur bids helped me become a MUCH better player 5*****'s
Fanboy much? The guy's criticism was spot on, and it's hard to really argue with that, Vesper even replied with "You're right". For me it doesn't matter as much as it did for that guy though. Zmoney2006 even said over and over that what Vesper's doing is absolutely great, so don't even get into that. And lastly I think that he reached the maximum amount words in one post and therefore decided to split it into two.
Ok, Idk if it's because its on 3DS but I play online and some fuckers can block EVERY FUCKING ATTACKS, low high overhead everything. They lose temporary dammage though but they arent focus canceling because they would be charging and I would be able to hit with the second hit. Can you tell me what the fuck it is please????

@DarconAdonis Make sure to hit the "play" button, bottom left.
@dvsjaymusic I started playing fighting games in the arcade 10 years ago. I think I played sf II on my snes when I was a kid like 15 years ago or something.

Awesome job on these videos! Thanks a lot! Once SF X Tekken comes out on PC I'll sure be watching the next set of tutorial!

Wow, I didn't think there are strategies to blocking :P Thanks Vesper!

@VesperArcade NO i wasent. it was just really funny the way you said it. i watched all your tutorials already mainly because ive been watching your hands. the way pro players hold the stick, what fingers you use on what buttons ect. im building a new stick.
@Zmoney2006 .
Who ever was ibuki YOU ARE A GREAT FIGHTER :D unlike the people who just do kens uppercut 24/7.
Ken is like the Scorpion of Street Fighter games. Everyone mains him
when I started playing a few months ago, i kept thinking it was impossible to get a perfect, because of chip damage. And when I thought turtling is the only way to win, and then all fireball players would just stand there and chuck fireballs. oh how I've changed.
Thanks for the cross over tip, I had no idea!
so wait. what u are showing us is how scurbs play and how u own them. awesome !!!!!
but I just want to ask one thing ,do u play with the aracde stick?
so in the beginning when u demolished dudley with ibuki, can i be tht beastly on a 360 contoller?
@IceSick88 Didn't he say that "blocking is the best *offensive* option"?
how can you record dummy input in ssf4? (never played Vanilla sf4)
I like the bit were you owned at the beginning. was that online randomly?
How did you guys get those character costumes?
Where is the vid explaining ibuki and vipers jump cancel?
Would you say that an Xbox360 controller is not good for combos?
Nice Video tutorial and i agree with the last few comments as well :)
is it possible to stand block without moving backwards?

VesperArcade FTW!
awsome tutorials
upped my blocks like crazy.
How dose one block?
@IceSick88 Ah, it took me a couple of times to really hear that it was "defensive". And here I was, hoping for some deep truth xD
@VesperArcade can you train me in SSF4 during summer? youd be Mr. Miyagi and ill be daniel-san :)
good stuff man

You play a pretty good Ibuki.
have you ever fought darksydephil online, because both of you, are pretty much the same skill level.
was the intro fight just for educational purposes or a legit one?
I'd love to see something like this for Blazblue.
How do u block in this game?
he needs to show a video with everyone super special costume
Abel's overhead is pretty much unpredictable
U pretty much have to guess
Thanks for the tutorial XD
...oh wow. How did I never know you could block crouching jabs high?
Ibuki LOVE!
It must get boring playing online once you're this good at the game D:
That's why a perfect is call a PERFECT XD
You practically double perfected that guy,if you don't count him chipping you with wake up ultra.
@JinMengjun No.
@JinMengjun Oh lol Nah Vesper is really good. watch his vids.
pause at 0:03
The problem with SF4 is that the hitboxes are BS..... and you can't really know when they gonna hit you and when they won't.
That Dudley didnt have a chance.
Ok, Idk if it's because its on 3DS but I play online and some fuckers can block EVERY FUCKING ATTACKS, low high overhead everything. 1:38 LMFAS!!! Really? the best defense is to block an attack? this whole time i thought it was to take the 3 hit combo to the face????
