Sure, it will work for all three. Red and Black drum are often sight casted in the flats. Trout are occasionally sight casted, but pretty rare. But you can fan cast for any of those species.
I so want to get some video of tailing reds... Never had the will power to put the rod down and film them. Its always such an awesome thing to see. Good luck.
I'm new to salt water fly fishing I've did panfish and bass and trout I'm understanding flounder a bit better now. Do you think you could do this for red drum and black drum or trout
NICE!! a very detailed tutorial for a rookie like myself. My gear is Nautilus NVG and Hardy Zenith #5 --and Loop Rod with Redington Reel #8,still....doesnt make me a great flyfisher,i been Rookie for 5 years with very low catch rate (1-3 per year). I thank you for this lection video, still working hard to catch fish, they dont like my fly lures :/(
great video on fly fishing for flounder brother!ill need some suggestions please im planing to to start for the first time salt water fly fishing in the mid east atlantic coast my main fishing is for bottom feeding salt water fishes, blind casting !such as mainly porgies/scup ,spot fish, fluke, flounder, some weakfish and black fish. if im fishing for bottom feeding fishes shouldnt i use a sinking fly line only ? and or why not may this not be the best way to go please let me know,,, keeping in mind porgies/scup can be caught generally even up to 2 feet off the bottom...thanks
sinking lines are sometimes harder to cast, its hard to 'pick the line up off the water.' Try a slow sinking line with a weighted leader, a lot is going to have to do with how deep you are fishing. for me, in 3-4 feet of water a floating line, with a 6foot sinking leader, three feet of fluoro and a weighted fly is just right. If you need to go deeper, you might need an intermediate or even a sinking line.
Im sorry but you are incorrect about the silhouette of a bucktail or clouser minnow when its underwater. The hairs actually do fan out giving it a larger profile. Which is why you can have two of the same weight bucktails with different hair densities and one will float or sink quicker than the other.
I have a boat and fish life bait for all of these species and have cought flounder on jigs and such but I'm ready for a new challenge I am going to get all new fly rod set up tomorow at bass pro at myrtle beach go down launch the boat and dock it for the night and gonna try and catch some tailing red fish I will try to get a video my dad going to bring his camera
WHY DO YOU KILL TO MANY FLOUNDERS, ARE YOU STARVING, OR WHAT, ? WHY DO YOU DON T RELEASE, ALL THIS FISH ? WHAT ABOUT THE FLOUNDER POPULATION ? WHAT DO YOU FEEL WITH THIS PICTURES WITH ALL RESPECT WHEN DO YOU BECOME A CONSERVATIONIST ?
You are more or less correct about the rod but I respectfully disagree on the reel. 150 would get you a shotty setup for larger fish species. Especially saltwater.
Scott, I agree wth you. Big Ron, what fly reel are you fishing that has a sealed drag system for less than $150? You can use a cheaper reel for saltwater, but you'll be replacing it by next season.
That was a very thorough & very well thought out tutorial, much appreciated.
fan cast, bounce bottom with clouser deep on intermediate line. Gotcha.

Nice, informative video. I draw the line at using scents on the fly though. I really hope this doesn’t become a trend.
Ya just bait fish already
I've caught halibut on the west coast. It's pretty much the same approach, 8wt, shooting line, 4 ft mono leader, clouser.
Great common sense advice. Thanks for a well done video.

Thanks for the video. This is exactly the info I was looking for.
Thanks for the sensible answer I learned through you. Thanks I'm gratefully.
Awesome video, best information out there on this subject! Great work thank you.
Will a wire leader sink because I'm going for bluefish and don't want my leader to break but also want it to float.
Quick question what is the point in that little loop where you are suppose to tie your fly to the leader
even a 9 wt is good. 9' 9 wt with intermediate sinking line and weighted , flashy flies. Very effective way of catching flounder
Can you use a 5 weight by any chance? (its all i have)
Great video!!! Good information!

Next time, try using bacon in your lures, flounders will love it. The fat part of the bacon is the best and stay in the hook better.
Your one bass ass fisherman!
😭 this fucking guy 🤣🤣🤣

Haha.... You think Flounder are endangered species? Jeez, relax man, there's billions of fish in the sea.
Sage is way over priced you gotta be stupid or spoiled to by any fly rod over $500 and reels you don't need to spend more than $150!
