@@Geordie-rr2gq No way, you see him always actually calculating possible responses, even if he misses things. That's what differentiates the pros, from the patzers. Sure, we sometimes actually stop and think and calculate, but most of the time the average chess player is playing "hope chess", playing certain moves hoping for a blunder or mistake, or just casually moving without ever thinking about a good move reply.

Honestly if Magnus blundered his Queen I'd be scared to take it because I'd think he was setting me up for something.
It would be interesting seeing him play on an anonymous account. His GM opponents might actually be better then, simply because they loose some of the paranoia preventing them from taking advantage of Magnus blunders.
I think that is also what made Alireza so good against him, he just didn't fear and respect Magnus that much.

The match GM Henríquez won in the World Cup was against Gelfand. Henríquez was pretty young, maybe 20 y/o. He is a strong GM, but the difference between being strong and being Carlsen is considerable.

Still pretty new to chess. MC kept claiming he had a better position at the start but I couldn't see why it was any better. Any insight?
I'm not even a good player but generally if you have space and your pieces control key squares, that's a good position
At 2:00 Magnus saw a chance to shut the b7 bishop out of the game by advancing the pawn to e4 and e5. Magnus was even willing to sacrifice his h4 pawn to do it. When the opponent declined to take the pawn, they were stuck with a bad bishop on b7 with no compensation.

He's pretty good even by GM standards. 2600 classical rating, but he's giving up over 300 points in FIDE blitz rating (2887 to 2583). But yeah Kamsky obliterated him with increment.

Jovan Jovic Nxh5 Rxh5 Rxf8 Rxg3, u don’t actually win a pawn since g3 is hanging and the rook hits the bishop on d3 with tempo. Magnus wanted to avoid that (as he mentions) and decided on Ne2 instead, defending g3 and forcing the knight on f8 to an awkward square.
@@2000chinadragon if he takes the pawn on g3 he automatically loses the game and his position is hopeless. You just go r1f7 and win the game. I think Magnus oversaw that maybe, which is justified considering the games are only 3+0 and u gotta play fast. Nxh5 definitely seems like a winning move there.

He has two adjacent pawns that don't have any enemy pawns in front of them (g5 and h6) [connected passed pawns]. If black rook goes to h7, then g6 wins the game. If black rook goes to g8, h7, rook anywhere (say a8) g6, Kf6, g7, Kf7 and now you can't stop promotion. (Or you can give up your rook)
Edit: it's so bad that stockfish suggests b5 giving up the rook, to prolong the defeat
