I have to disagree with the connotation of "we're chasing curls". Literally EVERY OTHER hair texture gets to enjoy their natural hair shape but when an unambiguous "type 4" natural does it, somehow we get labeled as either anti black or a curl chaser 😂 I was born with kinks and coils....how am I chasing what I already have? Type 3 girlies have to do the exact same method during a wash and go for their own shape to pop. Are people calling them "curl chasers"? Can't we also say the same for people rocking twist outs and braid outs then? I guess I don't understand where that idea comes from.
People have said that before about those who only do their hair in twist outs and braid outs. I think people should style their hair the way they want it. There's nothing wrong with wanting definition and curls, but people need to be honest. Type 3 curls are visible even in their driest state. We have to work much harder to see some definition. When our hair is dry and without product, we don't see our curls because they are too tight, so if we put so much effort into seeing those curls that we don't normally see, we are actually chasing for curls, but is that so wrong? To each his own.
I’m not a curly girl by Hair Community definitions. I AM natural, and have been for 8/9 years now. I don’t “type” my hair because I don’t need that. My hair curls up anytime water or water-based products are introduced to it. When I was relaxed, applying gel would cause hella ripples, and people would comment about my texture or “grade” of hair (whatever that means)? My objective with my hair is, and has solely been understanding what my hair needs to be it’s healthiest! I am not interested in the least, to “show” others that my hair curls???? Like; I don’t need or understand that. I’m not about to load my hair down with three to four products to make it “look” like those curls are “natural” if the current process is required to make it do that?! I guess if you “want your curls defined” you can want that. I will never buy a $20 product intended to define curls I already know that I have. I also don’t get buying a product intended to stop MY hair from “shrinking” as it’s meant to do, just to show length? We can say all day that these “curl-highlighting techniques and lengthening desires” are not due to societal standards but I don’t think that’s altogether the truth. My hair is THE BEST it’s ever been, now that I no longer chemically alter it. I don’t even like the Wash-n-Go look! That’s not MY cup of tea…. Too too much!
@@Miranda-gi9fx I think what people mean by "chasing curls" is that we are trying to achieve a look that type 3 girls already have (naturally). We are not chasing curls because we are just trying to define what we already have. I really like my curl pattern but I'd like to see more of it by doing wash n gos!
Jeeeeennnn! 👏🏾 Great job with the steps!! I definitely agree with you on the whole defining and not creating frizz part. It feels like a preference thing. I personally love volume and I don’t mind frizz 🤷🏾♀️ I love your finished result!! You did tha sis!! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Don’t worry girl!! You’ll get there!! My hair was bra strap length when I started. My wngs took 2-3 hours, but once I got my technique down it took an hour or less. Just focus on refining your technique and you’ll get faster at it 💕
The fact the u showed the hair on the floor and how messy the wash'n go can be, I had to hit the like button. U kept it real which i love. Thank u cuz i have never seen any of the youtubers show this before
I remember when I did my first WnG way back in 2008. I swore I would never do it again, but I found myself doing another WnG the very next week. I've been doing them consistently ever since. It took me about 6 weeks to get it to a point where I was happy with it. The biggest part of the learning curve for me was getting the kinky-curly application down. Now 20 - 30 min in the shower plus a good shake and diffuse and I'm done. It gets better if you choose to stick with it. I don't think there is any reason to chase curls. If we are working with type 4 hair we have the amount of coil that we have depending on whether we are 4A, 4B, or 4C. It should be just about healthy hydrated hair and accepting whatever level of kink, coil, or curl we have however it turns out. All of the type 4 hair textures are going to look different and all of them are beautiful. Adding a gel to wet hair doesn't change the natural pattern it only captures it. Also if your preferred style is twist outs and braid outs those can be done as well with mousse instead of gel.
Most ppl use the curly magic and ICH because that's the desired finish they want with more definition and more weight and hold. If you want more volume day 1, softer feel and less definition you can experiment with mousse as topper instead of ICH. Fo adunni has a great video with her results use mousse def for her wash and go's. I would check it out!
@@JennJacksonI agree wholeheartedly my stylist recommends gel and mousse for my wash n go to get a fluffier bigger look. I also love bigger hair day 1. Please would love to see you try this method! It also dried faster for me I believe because it’s a lighter product.
Your hair is beautiful and your wash and go looks amazing! I don't know if it's about chasing curls but defining your hair so that you get the most of your style. I realize when I have a less defined wash and go after a few days my hair starts to knot and leads to more breakage if I try to keep it for a week.
You did a good job, but I did notice that there still wasnt enough water used during the ICH application. At that point, if you're gonna be outside of the shower, you can use a spray bottle. It'll make it spread better. With ICH, you dont need more products, you'll need more water. Thats it. You should hear it squish. Also, I saw during the separating that there definitely wasnt enough of either product on your roots. But, as you said, it's such a learning process. But, the process really isn't about chasing curls. You can also just do a wash and fro or use the recommended cream styler with little to no hold. Or a twist out with the mousse. You can create all the styles you want without the raw oils and butters. But the process helps you learn how YOUR hair behaves with different products and application and you'll know better what it feels like when it has enough product on it and when it has enough water in it. It's really changed the game for me! I've never used raw oils and butters, so I didnt feel that withdrawal. But learning how my hair behaves... game changing. My wash n go's look very much like a twist out would for me and takes less time. This method is about reclaiming your time as well. There are so many benefits!
Hey love, I really do think you need to try the uncle funkys and aunt jackies ice curls (as your topper gel) combo. It’s such a good combination! Definition and elongation is a guarantee. Also as a tip, UFD works best with very warm-hot water 🥰 again, love the hair!
In the summer I just do wash and goes as I go swimming and the humidity. I don’t bother blow drying or stretching since it will revert back to shrinking in a day. My hair is really healthy and no over shedding and breakage. Only takes 30 minutes. I usually put conditioning on it when I have extra time for like 15 minutes. 😁 I do out detangler on and comb through really quick. Rinse, glob gel on and SHAKE just like a doggie.
heyy hun try applying the gels in sections. Its better especially for thick 4c. You can wash it loose but gel stage even 4 sections help. When I finish adding the two gels I go back in and seperate the curls. This has helped improve my outcome tremendously that way the defintion starts all way at the root. I have left the brushes and all because I think they were breaking my hair over time the Color radiance conditioner's slip is crazyyyyyyy .I now use fingers to fully detangle because of this magical product. I have 4c. I am waiting for my kazmaleje brush which is still in transit.
Great video! I tried the no oils and butters for a month and decided to go back to my oils (I never used butters). I just like the way my hair feels with a tiny bit of oil. It felt dry without it. I only do wash n gos. My staple gels have been flaxseed gel and Curly Magic as a topper. But I tried not using flaxseed and used only Curly Magic and I Create Hold during my no oil and butter experiment and my hair was ok, but not as defined as it normally is, and my wash n gos just didn't last long....I was even washing my hair before 5 days sometimes. So just last week I returned to using flaxseed gel and girl...I don't think I will ever leave it again! My hair is super defined with flaxseed gel and Curly Magic. I even used a light coating of I Create Hold on top of the two gels and my hair is super defined and has so much hold. I think I will be able to have a 2 week wash n go again! I was watching some old videos of some OG naturals when certain oils were popular and one of them was saying how some oils don't sit on top...then penetrate the hair. So shouldn't those types of oils be good for our hair? Well, I am sticking to my oils. Just not the heavy ones that I think may cause build up.
Do what’s best for you hun. And yes some oils do penetrate the hair shaft. That’s the reason why they are even listed as an ingredient on those products.
@@ourhannahshouse It depends on what kind of leave in I use under the flaxseed gel. I've been using Natty Naturals Lemongrass leave in and it works perfectly with my flaxseed gel and doesn't flake. It even feels like my flaxseed gel. However, I have used some other leave ins that have caused flakes with my flaxseed gel. I am on day 7 of my last wash n go where I went back to using oil and it is perfection! Super defined and lots of hold. I may go to to 10s this week. Oh and no flakes! Hope this helps :)
Shaking your hair more vigorously (left, right, front and back) would’ve gotten rid of extra water and helped separate the root to allow better drying.
Not going to lie your hair is looking better and better each time you do this. I did this for the first time this week and my hair is dry as HELL. Like the desert is on my head!! 😂 I will admit I definitely add wayy to much gel. I gotta figure out the wash n go since it’s been atleast a decade since I’ve done a wash and go so I know I was just way to heavy handed with the gel. Hopefully I can get my hair to look as moisturized as yours ❤️.
I think it's climate. I'm in Cali and UFD works great for me on it's own without the addition of a second gel. I'm pretty sure in NY, or FL that wouldn't work at all and I would need a second gel.
Your hair is looking better and more hydrated each time Jenn..As far as the hair balls go once I got my curly cut/hair shaped my hair balls are not as big.
Defo tweak as needed, keeping in mind the guidelines & principles. Your hair looks amazing! I actually prefer to plop my hair in the shower with a hair towel (after applying 3 pumps of my base), then apply my styler on damp hair outside the shower once I’m dressed. Lol I’ve been doing this for years though so we each have to find which routine & technique works best for us, it may take some time.🌷
@@JennJackson yes, that is what’s advised but This is always how I’ve done my routine. I don’t like how long my hair takes to dry and my product application feels better on damp hair (I do go in with a spray bottle though as needed). This is just my tweaked version. :) I sit under my hooded dryer for 30mins or diffuse for 20mins. 🌹
your hair looks soooo good !!! it takes me 3 hours too but it’s only because i really take my time . washing my hair is therapeutic and a very mindful activity for me . but my hair lasts me 7+ days . i also don’t think this way of taking care of your hair is chasing curls per say . the purpose of a wash and go is to define your curls . the ladies who created the 30 day hair detox emphasize the importance of “washing, conditioning, and styling” not having perfectly defined curls because there are several styles you can do in which your hair would not be super defined . they always ask the consumer how do you want to show up in the world and for a lot of ladies it’s a wash and go . but that’s not for everyone . but that’s just my opinion. much love to you on your hair journey ❤️❤️
it also took me like 4.5 months to get my wash and go to look how i wanted it too but before i think i was so obsessed with it being under an hour i was rushing the process .
I cut my hair in February buzz cut (due to products triggering migraine) and was surprised to see the diversity of textures on my own head, truly! I started trying this method of hair care due to its simplicity and the possibility of a style enduring an entire week, which I never had. Despite the many ups and downs - I'm still learning - I can say that I resist the urge to compare my hair to others. What I can also say...is that my previous insistence *and identity* with my kinks looking a certain way, caused me to not want to embrace them if and when they started looking different. I don't have to be the kink martyr. I need to accept my hair for whatever it is. That includes if I cut my own 4c hair and it suddenly looks maaaad different, including curly.
Right! the natural hair community seems to always be on another mission usually fueled by the companies trying to sell their products. It's ok to look at others who are experienced and knowledgeable about hair but ultimately we don't like our won hair from watching others, we still have to do it ourselves
A few suggestions on your technique: 1. emulsify (rub you hands together-with product); spreads the products through your hair more evenly and you will reduce the amount product 2. Section - apply the product in at least 4 sections 3. Use much less I Create Hold; it should simply give more hold to your curls 4. Day 3/4 hair is my fav
The mess up process is new to me. I'm glad you showed that. I always wondered how the hairs stood up. I'm gonna try it, and I'm excited about it. I'll certainly let you know. Thank you Jennifer. I appreciate you and your work.
I have heard dif stylist say that an hour may be too long to sit under dryer as it can dry the hair out. Have you tried sitting under the dryer( 20-30 min) then diffusing or air drying to finisb?
I do a wash and go every morning utilizing uncle funkys daughter curly magic. I have 4C hair and same amount as you. My suggestion is: I do everything in the shower, so my bathroom is not left messy. Soak your hair first, wash, rinse out, then add leave-in conditioner first (TGIN Rx) before applying uncle funkys daughter gel (that way you won't use as much). Rake the product through your hair to evenly distribute and add water whenever you get a snag or dry and keep working product in hair with water...then bend over and shake your head vigorously from left to write and flip back up and your done. Then proceed to wash the rest of your body. In total my hair routine takes 5mins tops then I step out the shower and get dressed and go. My hair dries throughout the day. I usually drive with my windows down on my way to work and my hair will be about 30%-40% dry by the time I get to work and will continue to dry by the end of the day. If you want to speed up the drying process I usually just use my blow dryer with my head tilted down amd start the drying process....or if I have time I'll sit under the drying for a little while then finish with hair dryer quickly just to dry up the soaking water.. my hair will still be somewhat wet when I leave my house but that's perfectly alright with me in the hot summer. That's what I do and I find it very easy to do my hair every morning in the summer. In the winter I do protective styles.
@@tmcurly Hi! No actually I don't have a twa...I have the same hair length as Jenn...perhaps just a little shorter. I should clarify I don't actually shampoo everyday I co- wash daily and shampoo 1x per week. I started doing it after my big chop and Anthony Dickey is my hairstylist so I've been following his direction with Wash & Go's daily and my hair absolutely love it!
@@elegance4947 WOWWWW I am blown away. You are amazing I don't know how you have mastered doing all this so quick! YOU ARE SO LUCKY!! DICKEY IS YOUR STYLIST?? EPIC!!!
@@JennJackson yes girl! If you already have it, try it. I’m following the method and seeing a stylist who follows their method and she saw my hair with the JS when I came in versus the ICH she used and approved of me continuing with JS. I’ve also put JS on top of UFD and ICH (just a tiny bit) and it blocked humidity but didn’t help with the tangly feeling. Good luck 🍀
Jen sis…. You have the most beautiful unique. 4c type hair!!!! Your coils curls are absolutely amazing!!!! How does it feel to be so uniquely made by the creator…. Wow… there is no one on this earth that looks like you!!!! Wow our Father in Heaven took His sweet time when He created you and your hair type, you’re carefully hand crafted!!!!! Love 💕 your sister Mary… And you jus gained a new subscriber….. All praises to The Father in Heaven!!!!!
Also the idea that we are chasing curls is crazy like they are already on our head and are found when your hair is wet…why can’t they be there when dry??
When she said chasing curls, I think Jenn was referring to defined curls. Some naturals love defined curls associated with wash and gos and some don't mind a regular fro which is typically undefined for 4B/4C hair but could still be just as hydrated as a defined wash and go.
Hi, but the fact that people not just you say that they are already there when hair is wet is not an argument to me because wet hair add a lot of weight to our hair so wet hair does not represent our true texture. People with curly hair or wavy have straight hair when their hair is wet because the weight of the water elongates their curls to the max. So it's weird to think that wet hair represents our true texture. Anyway n the end people should do whatever they want to do.... Just a thought
There you go. Some naturals DO have curly hair so they are fine in wanting to have that. I do understand its tougher for type 4 hairs. We have to just work harder at getting curls in there.
If anything is more so the connotation behind the idea of “chasing a curl” as if it’s bad to want definition. Over the years I’ve gone from loving to look like uncooked ramen to appreciating a good mix of fizz(really just less product) to add volume. Like if we’re being real the fact you put anything other than water on your hair is chasing a curl either for definition or manageability ( twist or other stretching methods) and I said what I said.
I’m enjoying the openness and honesty in this video series. I’m glad you brought up the “tangly” ends after adding gel, because I have that issue too and it makes me nervous that I’m breaking my hair while raking in the product. Let us know if you find a solution to that.
I have that tangly ends thing it may mean you need a trim or light dusting also try to go back section and gentle seperate them that was also you are still working the products in!!
Wash and go is looking better and better. 😊 Try a hair buff instead of a bonnet. It’ll preserve your wash and go or braid/twist out much better. I think you could probably get it down to 2 hrs. I’ve been doing it since Jan and I still haven’t gotten down to 1 hour. I average about 2 hrs. That’s worth it to me to be done and able to go out with a style in that amount time as opposed to a twist out that took me about the same amount of time but I had to let dry for like 12 hrs before I had a style. 😂
I love the "messier" washngo look you go for! Also I get messy w water and product when finishing out of the shower so it's funny that you mention it lmao. I do have some feelings re super defined v fluffy looks but overall it's more of a "whatever style you like" sorta deal. I haven't mastered a super defined look and haven't really tried to tbf. If I feel like my hair takes too long while I'm still wet I get... Mad. So that's maybe a challenge for another time haha. Maybe w long hair I'd prefer it to hang more who knows
I did the wash and go in an hour, I only used Uncle Funky's gel. Everything improves with time and practice. I'd like to see you do a different style with mousse like they suggest😄 Oils/butters make my hair dry with prolonged use even when I clarify.
Your hair looks beautiful ! Your wash n go is getting betting. I know when I started doing them it didn’t look like I wanted but trust me it gets better. I tend to do my wash session and style under an hour and half. Lol wash n know (for knowledge)
Hey Jen J you are motivating me to do this no oil no creams routine. Your is looks gorgeous🔥. I can’t wait for the pros and cons video before I do this. Entertaining and educational 👌
I love your hair texture! Your hair shrinkage looks beautiful on my opinion☺️ a little tip from Jennifer rose if you don’t want to shake your head before setting it is to take a paper towel & just gently squeeze the water out. Also, if you want more volume, she recommends hair spray; you also could try it with volumizing mousse instead of gel: I’ve heard of different combos: gel and mousse or just mousse so maybe you might want to try them out too. If the hair still isn’t dry after the hooded dryer, I’ve seen Them go in with a diffuser at the roots to speed up the process. When you master the wash n go, I would love to see you try either a twist out or braid out with a wrap foam.
I think the 45min gel stage can be sped up if you use a brush after applying it. I find the brush helps actually smooth the hair and clump the curls as it's distributing the gel. This is going to be faster than using your fingers only.
Exaaaaaactly...with our hair(mine is similar to yours) we need to chase unique shapes and form and fluff that frame the face, artistic styles, not just "flowing"beach waves and stretched styles ...there's room for multiple aesthetics🙂
Have you ever tried the method where you tie each section of your hair with scrunchies and then dry your hair. After apparently it’s supposed become extremely elongated. But y’all don’t forget shrinkage is beautiful
I don’t do this no oils, butters but I do stretch my hair with elastic bands once it’s dry (end of day 1) to get a better style throughout the week. Keep in mind that I am type 4, fine strands, high porosity and I only do wash’n’goes when I really have to wash and GO
I tried a wash n go today….you were right wash n work. My hair is currently only like 2 inches but with how my density is set up it doesn’t matter how long it is, it take forever just to “shingle” lol I couldn’t fathom finger coiling lol. Maybe date night but the 30 minutes of product application wore me out lol: hope it last until wash day:
The. Shrinkage. is. real..... I am trying to grow a little more length in the front for wash and go. Will try the no oil, no butter this week! Thanks for your wash and know (ledge)!😁
Love this, it's a lot of work considering how much hair you have, I did a short wash day video too and I and my short hair are tired, but I plan to make it a weekly thing so, we keep going. Great video.
Great straight to the point video. Thank you! Your intro even seemed shorter which helps to get the video faster, in my humble opinion…in summary, I love your content, can’t wait to get into it!
It really depends on the person's skin type, if you have oily skin, that means you'll also have an oily scalp. Which means not using oils on your scalp or hair wont be an issue. But it's a no no for people with dry skin. Not absolutely sure about combination skin. But let's not forget scalp is skin too. Overall, it's not for everybody
My sides are so hard to define. They’re a totally different texture from the top and back of my head😩 doing wngs in the shower has been a lifesaver (easier to clean the mess). Shaking your head also helps to separate the curls. I would invest in a shower mirror
Looks good. It will b faster. I have shoulder length thick wng. I do it n 30 mins. I do majority of detangling with conditioner...with a brush and in shower. To prevent "chunks " shake your hair first. U will loose less hair btw bc we r washing more...I. e detangling more.
I love to see folks coming to the dark side of WnG's.. Lol.. I'm only parroting some of what I think seen in the comments, but it does get easier and faster.. My hair is waist legnth and takes me about 1.5hrs start to finish.. The only difference for me is that I shake my hair at the end to help with clumping.. For me it helps my hair last longer and maybe shakes off any excess product.. Yeah my shower has to cleaned right after every week.. But that good shake has been a game changer for my hair..
I just recently did a wash and go on my 4c hair, and the trick to getting your hair to pop is putting on a bentonite clay mask on it beforehand on already detangled hair. It acts as a shampoo, clarifyer and conditioner so you don't even need to worry about that. Then, after you wash your hair in the shower, separate it into 4 sections, and a little bit of leave in, without disturbing the curl pattern, then add a water based gel. Add a lot. It may seem like a lot, but because its a water based gel, it feels like you'r adding more because your hair is already soaked in water, Do that on all 4 sections, then bobby pin your hair in place and don't touch it at all, until its fully dry. If its still wet when you go to bed, just throw on a bonnet, and sleep like that, and in the morning, you can easily just use you're hands to unsmoosh the hair by the roots.
I love your hair as the days go by, as with mine... Big hair!!! My hair is just above bra strap length now and, after three months of using this hair care method, it takes me about two hours, from washing, conditioning, styling and drying under a hooded dryer. I do not spend much time in defining my curls, which shortens the process. I do only sit under the dryer for 30 minutes, then I use my blow dryer to dry my roots and sometimes stretch my hair a little. Lie you, I am still working at perfecting my process but outcomes are getting better and better. I am seeking an effortless somewhat defined afro look. Regarding your dandruff, have you tried using a dandruff shampoo for your first wash and a hydrating one for your second wash?
I think Jenn is referring to a specific type of curl. In the natural hair community at large, type 4 hair isn't considered a desirable curl the way type 3 hair is. So yes, natural hair is curly but not all of it valued the same unfortunately.
True..."4c hair" (I don't use these type things but just so folks understand) does have curls. It's just that they are tightly coiled. Extremely really. It's beautiful tho💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾!
@@potterylady44 exactly. Also one thing I have noticed with "4c" hair is that it's not only tight curls. I personally have like a tight wavy pattern of that makes sense? I was surprised that it was possible
Jenn, I just love you. I don't chance curls. I like volume . this method is killing me. I'd rather just do a fluffy twist out and moistures/hydrated hair
I don't like wash and gos on my 4c hair so this method wouldn't be for me. I just can't put in that much time for a style I don't even like but I'm enjoying watching your process. Can this method be done with twist outs instead?? Thanks for sharing!💕
Hi Jenn, I know this comment is long but please bear with me. I watched your video on the best products and on this weekend I bought two TGIN products from their Miracle RepaiRX collection. l went whole hog and brought the Deep Hydrating Hair Mask and Protective Leave In condition. I wash with Shea Moisture low porosity protein free shampoo rinsed, followed by palm sized amount cheap instant coconut oil conditioner layered under lots of mask. My hair loved the new mask by the way. I wore a plastic cap without heat for 90 minutes. Rinsed then and while keeping my hair soaking wet I applied the TGIN instant leave in and started styling my wash and go with an even mix of Taliah Waalib Curl Gello and As I Am curling smoothie. I combed this curling duo through section of my hair with my fingers and a denman brush and added product until it started clumping and separating. My hair dried so quickly in the process so I kept misting with water before I moved on to the next section. When my hair was finally coiled all over, I shook all the water from my hair. My hair is the longest on top and it is the thinnest. I could shake loose the products from top and crown. However, the hair strands on the sides and back shrunk tighter and close to the scalp. I honesty believe when I shook my head trying to shake loose the water from back and sides, I gave myself whiplash! 😊 I did this at 8 am and I let it air dry. My wash and go looked great in the beginning. It felt so hydrated. My wash and go is three days old and it is fading. I spritz with water in the morning. Even though the curls on the sides and back spring up, however the hair in back of the crown which is gray white, is showing signs of frizziness without curl definition. Should I keep spritzing at night too to restore moisture? I've been staying away from oil for two weeks. Should I have added oil to water spritz? When I rewash, should I eliminate/add a step or product? Or give up the wash and go? Any suggestions from you Jenn or her loyal followers would be appreciated!!!! What works for those of you with two different textures and also with graying hair? Thank you thank you!!
Jenn, is the topper gel supposed to block moisture from humidity in the atmosphere getting into the hair and creating frizz or is it to create hold only?
Yes the topper does both! Uncle funky on its own doesn't give hold nor longevity for kinkier hair types. The topper creates a barrier so that the humectant from the uncle funky doesn't dissapate as quickly, it's also a stronger holding gel
@@miniminott48 you might have to try it and see if it holds up,. A leave in usually has no hold and does not define hair, its more flexible when used for a twist . Remember UFD still has hold, it just won't give you the longevity you desire.Do you not like UFD ? You can also use kinky curly or earthtones natural
@@dadou1210 I typically do leave in and cream only wash and gos. I get a lot of definition as well as volume and my wash and gos last 2 weeks. I don't refresh.
Just focus on refining your technique and you’ll get faster at it 💕
That gives me hope hearing it from someone with longer hair
I'm at bra strap length, just started trying these and it's taking me 4 hours and that's without deep conditioning 🤧
My hair is chin length my fist wash and go took 4 hrs but the next one took and hour and some change. The goal is 30 mins
The fact the u showed the hair on the floor and how messy the wash'n go can be, I had to hit the like button. U kept it real which i love. Thank u cuz i have never seen any of the youtubers show this before
Right!? I haven’t seen it either and it’s a nightmare. Gotta allocate 30+ minute to clean after each wash and go lol
@@JennJackson facts
it’s really the confidence in yourself that shines through and translates into the hair style. not everyone can pull off that look so well!
Well said!
@@naturalcurls4life576 Thanks. Love you locs btw!💜
@@1GoldenBreeze Thank you!

Checking her out now! thanks x
Her videos are bomb
@@JennJacksonI agree wholeheartedly my stylist recommends gel and mousse for my wash n go to get a fluffier bigger look. I also love bigger hair day 1. Please would love to see you try this method! It also dried faster for me I believe because it’s a lighter product.
Your hair is beautiful and your wash and go looks amazing! I don't know if it's about chasing curls but defining your hair so that you get the most of your style. I realize when I have a less defined wash and go after a few days my hair starts to knot and leads to more breakage if I try to keep it for a week.
🗣 hair is looking cuuute, also this lip shade is so pretty ☺️
Thank you! Fenty is undefeated 😅
What color is it?
would love to see your demo this no oils/butters in a hair style other than wash n goes. I hate wash n goes
You can do twist outs/ braid outs but you have to use the Doux foam not gel
@@LifeFilmz yes i did a twist out with mousse def and my hair was dryyyy
@@anika.c1063 Try drying your hair with a blow dryer halfway and let it airdry the rest of the way, it won't be dry after that
@@oretha16 yeah if it’s air dried it’s not gonna come out right

Thank you for commenting on the "chasing curls". People are overly obsessed with defining curls over healthy hair
Someone else said the same thing! I gotta try the inner seas color care conditioner!
@@JennJackson Do it Jen and then let us know what you think about this product in one of your videos. Please :-))
Hello! Does it flake? That's what I don't want. Any suggestions on the flaxseed?
Your wash and go is so beautiful, love your hair texture🤩
Great job!!
I'm so glad you tried this for us...so we don't have to😂😂😂 I am exhausted FOR you, Sis!! You look really good.
We need to call the style a curly wash n set, because it’s literally what it is! However, I’m definitely sticking with my flat twist outs for sure
Hi do you retwist hair when you’re going to bed?
@@Ryan-yw8iz nope!
Love this!! You make us understand this no oils, no butter trend much better. 👏
Interested in you trying uncle funky (which has no hold to me) with the eco slay jell-o shot.
That sounds like a good combo
I think it's climate. I'm in Cali and UFD works great for me on it's own without the addition of a second gel. I'm pretty sure in NY, or FL that wouldn't work at all and I would need a second gel.
I think it would be cool if you did a live or walk through tutorial with Black girl curls or even go to a stylist in their directory.
Lol
I’ve been doing this for years though so we each have to find which routine & technique works best for us, it may take some time.🌷
Interesting! I thought we should leave our hair as wet as possible?
@@JennJackson yes, that is what’s advised but This is always how I’ve done my routine. I don’t like how long my hair takes to dry and my product application feels better on damp hair (I do go in with a spray bottle though as needed). This is just my tweaked version. :)
I sit under my hooded dryer for 30mins or diffuse for 20mins. 🌹
your hair looks soooo good !!! it takes me 3 hours too but it’s only because i really take my time . washing my hair is therapeutic and a very mindful activity for me . but my hair lasts me 7+ days . i also don’t think this way of taking care of your hair is chasing curls per say . the purpose of a wash and go is to define your curls . the ladies who created the 30 day hair detox emphasize the importance of “washing, conditioning, and styling” not having perfectly defined curls because there are several styles you can do in which your hair would not be super defined . they always ask the consumer how do you want to show up in the world and for a lot of ladies it’s a wash and go . but that’s not for everyone . but that’s just my opinion. much love to you on your hair journey ❤️❤️
it also took me like 4.5 months to get my wash and go to look how i wanted it too but before i think i was so obsessed with it being under an hour i was rushing the process .
@@taereecutie97 same!!
Yes I agree with you ,my goal was hydration and i have achieved it with this method .
Love the look of your hair style! You are definitely getting the hang of the WNG. Your curl definition is beautiful. Excellent instructional video!
Thank you so much!!
A few suggestions on your technique:
1. emulsify (rub you hands together-with product); spreads the products through your hair more evenly and you will reduce the amount product
2. Section - apply the product in at least 4 sections
3. Use much less I Create Hold; it should simply give more hold to your curls
4. Day 3/4 hair is my fav
More sections the better when applying product. To get even coverage. Uncle Funky is my holy grail.
Thank you for this! Will work in sections then
The mess up process is new to me.

I get the tangle feeling with UFD and ICH too. I topped UFD with Ecoslay Jello Shot and get easier Application and strong humidity proof hold.
Ouuu nice! I have the Jell-O shot so maybe I will try it. I don’t get why ICH makes that tangled feeling
@@JennJackson yes girl! If you already have it, try it.
@@HereDiianas everyone’s hair is straight under running water. The kink or curl resumes as soon as the individual is removed from water.
My 4c without oils and butter cannot survive , but yours is striving 🤩
I’m enjoying the openness and honesty in this video series. I’m glad you brought up the “tangly” ends after adding gel, because I have that issue too and it makes me nervous that I’m breaking my hair while raking in the product. Let us know if you find a solution to that.
I have that tangly ends thing it may mean you need a trim or light dusting also try to go back section and gentle seperate them that was also you are still working the products in!!
Any tangly ends I gently separate and do a light dust NOT trim because you don’t hinder your length Renton
Get a trim and work in sections. I stopped having that problem after that
Stick with it!!! And yes I think you would enjoy the result so much more with a bit more shape to your hair. Shape changes EVERYTHING
Do the twists. I started this method and it works well with doing twists/twist outs.
Love how you finally got to how I was feeling about your hair at 22:18.
I really liked what your hair was giving!!
Right! She looked cute x
I find smoothing and raking through gets the most definition. Shingling seems to create frizz and unclump the coils
I'd like to see you do a different style with mousse like they suggest😄
Oils/butters make my hair dry with prolonged use even when I clarify.

Also, when shampooing you should try smoothing for a few minutes. It will help greatly when you have to detangle.
I think the 45min gel stage can be sped up if you use a brush after applying it. I find the brush helps actually smooth the hair and clump the curls as it's distributing the gel. This is going to be faster than using your fingers only.
ou a brush? That sounds a lot of manipulation though
Exaaaaaactly...with our hair(mine is similar to yours) we need to chase unique shapes and form and fluff that frame the face, artistic styles, not just "flowing"beach waves and stretched styles ...there's room for multiple aesthetics🙂

No I haven't but I like my shrinkage - I don't particularly what to do the most to avoid it
I don’t do this no oils, butters but I do stretch my hair with elastic bands once it’s dry (end of day 1) to get a better style throughout the week. Keep in mind that I am type 4, fine strands, high porosity and I only do wash’n’goes when I really have to wash and GO

Honestly Jenn it’s the definition for me 🥰😍
It really depends on the person's skin type, if you have oily skin, that means you'll also have an oily scalp. Which means not using oils on your scalp or hair wont be an issue. But it's a no no for people with dry skin. Not absolutely sure about combination skin. But let's not forget scalp is skin too. Overall, it's not for everybody
Very cute style and I love the ringlets!
My sides are so hard to define. They’re a totally different texture from the top and back of my head😩 doing wngs in the shower has been a lifesaver (easier to clean the mess). Shaking your head also helps to separate the curls. I would invest in a shower mirror
Your hair turned out really pretty!✌🏾✌🏾✌🏾❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you!!
So RIGHT about the messy process!
Love your hair 😍 and makeup! You are getting better with this method.
You’re so funny without trying girl that gum chewing was killing me
Lmaooo I mean I knew I was going to be in the shower for hours so I needed a distraction 💀😂

Do you like the AG shampoo and conditioner better than the Innersense shampoo and conditioner?
I love your hair as the days go by, as with mine... Big hair!!! My hair is just above bra strap length now and, after three months of using this hair care method, it takes me about two hours, from washing, conditioning, styling and drying under a hooded dryer. I do not spend much time in defining my curls, which shortens the process. I do only sit under the dryer for 30 minutes, then I use my blow dryer to dry my roots and sometimes stretch my hair a little. This is so good! I love the definition
I don't understand why you think it's a problem that this method is "chasing curls" when it's what natural hair naturally does...
I love this point! If we didn’t have curls, we wouldn’t have beautiful fros and puffs.
I think Jenn meant defined curls.
Yes! I was waiting for the I create hold.
I'm new to the channel, and I love your use of space!
I don't like wash and gos on my 4c hair so this method wouldn't be for me. I just can't put in that much time for a style I don't even like but I'm enjoying watching your process. Can this method be done with twist outs instead?? Thanks for sharing!💕
Your hair turned out super cute 🥰
I always thought this, but I haven't found a video that states why two gels.
Yes the topper does both! Uncle funky on its own doesn't give hold nor longevity for kinkier hair types. The topper creates a barrier so that the humectant from the uncle funky doesn't dissapate as quickly, it's also a stronger holding gel
@@dadou1210 Thanks for your response. Could a leave in conditioner with aloe vera be used instead of UFD with the holding topper gel?
@@miniminott48 you might have to try it and see if it holds up,. A leave in usually has no hold and does not define hair, its more flexible when used for a twist . Remember UFD still has hold, it just won't give you the longevity you desire.Do you not like UFD ? You can also use kinky curly or earthtones natural
@@dadou1210 I typically do leave in and cream only wash and gos. I get a lot of definition as well as volume and my wash and gos last 2 weeks. I don't refresh. I was not a fan of gels so if I do try to use gel I would only want to use one not two. My hair is fine, medium density with a silky surface texture. Using the hair typing chart, I am 4A/3C.
Thank about it, when you first do something it takes time. The more you do it the faster and better you get. It gets better and better.
Thank you. I agree x
Your hair looks really good. I don’t think your chasing curls but more like definition.
Thank you x
You’re*
Love your hair. And the curls
Looking for a good hooded dryer that drys my hair all around. Which one are you using in this video?
Idk if I can get with no oil and butters 😭 even after seeing you THRIVE for a yr. I’ll try a wash and go eventually
Looks nice, but the long process 😳
Seemed like a 'wash & stay' 😆❤
"Wash and work" "wash and be confused" "wash and don't work" girl, there are zero lies in any of the above 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thank you for explaining how to use UFD!!!! I struggles so much I put the bottle away. I don't think my hair is wet weight.
I wonder if I’ll ever get there. My hair does not behave and does not like manipulating. I’m living vicariously. Thanks for sharing.
What is the reason for the recommendation of not sectioning the hair when washing?
