    My hair loves Shea butter and most oils and it’s long and thriving!
    For over 50 years , I’ve gone to beauticians and hair stylists. But my hair has NEVER been as healthy as it is since I’ve been natural and doing my own hair. So I don’t care what they recommend I should do with my hair.
    Everyone should find what works best for their own hair and “do you!”

    Love the content. Hate how those who are experiencing problems are being ignored or shut out instead of trying to find out what can be done. I personally like the no oils/butters because my hair never did well with them, even when I was perming my hair it never responded well to heavy products. I think we have to learn our hair and do what we find works for us. I truly appreciate you and other content creators that show us different methods and products.

    I am exactly like you Jen. I am too much for a product junkie to stick to only a couple of products but not using raw oil and butter has changed my hair for the better 😍..

  • @1GoldenBreeze
    @1GoldenBreeze ปีที่แล้ว +25

    I've never used raw oils or butter. To me balance is key, and I don't see a problem using products that have them in the first five ingredients depending on how well the product is formulated. My hair feels heavy and stiff when shea butter isn't well formulated into the product. Where the shea butter is on the ingredient list isn't as important as how much emulsifier is in it. If the product leaves a heavy film on my hair, then I know my hair won't hold a style and will feel stiff.

  • @illenhair3763
    @illenhair3763 ปีที่แล้ว +30

    I tried the no raw oils or butters for about two years.
    I didn't retain any length and my hair ended up really really dry, my ends were so rough that I couldn't twist all the way down in the end.
    Now I'm back to using raw oils and butters but I'll say I learned something from those two years. First that I didn't need nearly as much product as I thought I did, like I used to just slap conditioner on without ever emulsifying it and of course I ran out of conditioner fast. Same with shampoo, but now I know better.
    I also think the reason why I didn't succeed with the no raw oils and butters method was because I was too strict with it. I made sure none of my products had oils or butters in the first 5 ingredients, and that was a problem. I've been taking notes on my hair each wash day and having your strands coated and lubricated every now and then is a good idea, whether you're doing that with products that have oils and butters in the top ingredients or using the oils and butters raw.
    So if using a product with oils and butters in the top ingredients is a sin, then Jenn please keep sinning, cause it's good for your hair.

    • @JennJackson
      @JennJackson  ปีที่แล้ว +16

      I have been looking into this and this is exactly the conclusion that I am drawing. The people that were very strict are experiencing issues whereas others who swapped products out/lubricated their hair once in a while like I did are okay. So I think somewhere in a middle is a healthy balance when it comes to raw oils.Thank you so much for sharing your experience and I am glad you are doing something that now works!

      @@ossier2796 As a physician, just wanted to chime in on the mask issue. Their job was always to reduce the risk of infection and transmission--no one ever claimed they were 100% effective. Nothing is. But in 2020, something had to be done to slow down the number of sick and dying people in our ERs, ICUs, and morgues. We were in a state of emergency. People were dying alone, and their family members couldn't even bury them because of COVID.

    Love your honesty!!! I simplified my routine as well and my hair is thriving. I'm not using raw oils and butters but I'm a die hard Camille Rose fan and I have incorporated Ayurvedic products as needed. I wash every 1-2 weeks depending on my workout routine but I don't go pass two weeks. I twist and or jazz up two ponytails and we are fine!

    I've always tried to use oils and butters because TH-cam university told me that's how you take care of textured hair. It made my scalp break outin painful cystic acne with a day. Everytime. Now I don't use them because I don't want to have a painful, inflamed, bleeding scalp. I wash my hair every day or every other day with shampoo and conditioner. I put a leave in conditioner and a styler and keep it moving.

    I think the no raw oils and butters challenge is fine except for the fact my hair needs leave in-s, deep conditioners, and a cream too girl! My crown’s ends feel so rough and split - My hair started to suffer when I removed these things. No one should be shamed into a method.

    I learned a long time ago that you have to find what works for you! I stopped a long time ago trying different products. I buy the same products and do whatever I feel is best for my hair. I believe the problem with a lot of content on TH-cam is that there is so much information, and people new to natural journeys don't understand what to do. I've seen many videos saying don't use this product or don't blow dry your hair. Some people have difficulty deciding what to do, but ultimately, do what works for you.

    Old routines verse new routines of hair care. I am not reluctant to jump on new fads that come out. Yes, i do believe some old method make need retweeting only if something isn't working for you for you anymore. I like my oils and butters. Everyone experience is going to be different. We may don't have to use the raw form of them, but most hair products have those ingredients in them. This is informative and i like the content, Jenn.

    I wish African pride prepoo was a styler itself. When I detangle my hair with it, my curls pop , everything is soft and bouncy…it’s always a bummer to rinse it out . I tried their gel but to me it dried my hair out and I wished it was equivalent to the prepoo but that’s just my random experience.

      Try Obia Curl Enhancing Custard on As I Am Classic Leave-In. Very good combo for wash-n-go and twists but if you have mixed textures like mine and live in a highly hot and humid climate like mine, you may need a gel with a plasticizer e.g. Wetline.

    I started in that method 1 year and something ago and it was the best desision, I still apply hair mask on my hair 1 a month and thats all I shampoo, conditioner and style with hair foam, my ends and my haur get defined so easy now I want to try wash and go, so I'm waiting for my gel to arrive and I'm gonna buy the difusor tomorrow for me this method is simple and better for me I feel so free os too many steps, deep condition 1 a a week, lco method etc... that was too much I came from wash day to wash hour. 😍

    Jenn I have been doing no oils and butters for a while now and I looked at one of my hair strands and the 1 strand had several spits in it like a tree branch. you did a video on that; I'm currently trying to find that video. how can I reverse this? What am I doing wrong, I get regular trims at the salon only? I have a natural hair stylist that never noticed it, and she charges a lot to do my hair also. She said my hair is doing good. I follow Iamblackgirl curls. I'm very attentive to my hair, I wash, condition, weekly, sometimes twice a week when needed. I LOVE DOING MY HAIR.. I'm getting scared. It hurts my heart when I think I'm doing good by my hair and then I see tree branch spit hair strands. Not all of them are like that just a few. Please advise do you have any advice on what should I do to reverse this without cutting my hair? HELP!

      First of all I am so sorry and I can hear the sheer panic in your posts. I have many questions: where you following this to the T? Did you use different products? Leave in? DC? I don’t have all the answers but from my research, it can be a combination of over cleansing the hair while not replenishing enough lubricants. Some are adding DC and leave-ins so see if that helps and moisturizing shampoos rather than all-purpose.
      Truthfully, I think the stylists are as floored as we are and don’t really have answers (at least I haven’t seen one tackle this head on). Feel free to email me: jenn@itsjennj.com

      If your hair has the white bulb, it's shed hair and if it doesn't, it's breakage.
      I will suggest you;
      1. See the doctor
      2. Be gentle with your hair and use good tools/techniques while detangling and handling it.
      3. Use very slippery products, a balance of moisture/protein
      4. Read extensively about shedding which could be a result of health or mechanical damage (if it's abnormal because Natural Black hair sheds between 50-100 pieces everyday)

      Could be lacking protein or could be protein overload. My hair would do that just by touching it while dry and I found out that it needed protein. Did an intense protein treatment and it stopped. I do those twice a year and light protein treatments throughout the year. My new hair stylist at the time recognized what was happening. See a doctor to make sure no medical issues are going on and if you are medically fine then see a cosmetologist.
