Grandma Mee Siam. This stall in the 1960 was run by an aunty in her 40. It used to be a tricycle cart used to stations at the corner of Dalhousie Lane and Madras Lane that used to be a morning market. Used to savour her Mee Siam especially the mixed mee hoon and yellow mee. It is a traditional Chinese Mee Siam back then. Recommended to try when in Tekka market. A taste of the Old.
Wow 😯 thanks for sharing the historical details.. would definitely try it next round. It’s a shame that such memories were not captured in photos as we were using films then.. 24/36 rolls of Kodak or Fuji 😄
Already had my dinner..but watching you whack the prawn noodle made me want it too!!! And the duck rice!!!! Aiyoh!!! So shiok!!!! Salivating here man!!!
Indeed Piggy, glad to see you back doing your job. We will forgive you taking a couple of weeks off in cooler climes. Tekka is one of my least favourite hawker centres -- claustrophobic, B grade Indian food, and no big ass fans -- but the fresh fish soup looked rather tempting. Still, my time is limited in February. If I have a choice between Tekka and Sims Vista Market I'm going for the latter. Oh, and you and Greg of Big Eats make a perfectly balanced pair. Between the two of you, I feel that I'm starting to get a handle of Singaporean hawker culture. Something we all agree is precious. (Hawker culture, not my understanding of it) Best Dr Mark
@@markjones2781 hey Mark! Happy 2023 to you! It's beginning to look like a yearly mecca for you at Hawker Centres 😄.. Tekka FC! U nailed it! Another Fav of mine! U go crazy if u want to try all the good stalls! Bro, one stall at a time lah! Max 2 only for sake of stomach. Lots of tourists around but quality n price consistent. Did u enjoy the food? Pls come back then.
Many do not know this FC has great Chinese food too (many thought it was 100% Indian because of the location). 545 prawn mee & generation coffee are my MUST HAVES at this FC. You will realise the kopi O & spanish latte (my fav drink from this stall) much better value for money (in both $ & taste terms) as compared to TB chain & A chain (from Kyoto) 😅 … I love the choice of having a latte to go with my fav hawker dishes (best of both worlds for me) … these guys are really passionate about what they do, and now they expanded to a 2nd store at Bedok
Yeah.. didn't think it's nice with so much crowd these days. I had one beside the river in Kyoto. Corner stall.. drinking while watching river extra Shiok. 😂
The Grandma mee siam is potent stuff. Don’t get choke. As for the prawn Hokkien mee, the traditional way to eat included adding raw chopped garlic. No horse run.
#Piggypuggy can you pls tell me what camera or smartphone you're using❓Btw, first time watching your blog (recommended by my bro from U.S) I find it quite intriguing that this place is not that what I expected, 100% indians, embarrass to say I'm one of those, lol 😂 Incidentally, I'm just a short distance away from Tekka, I'll pop over to test it out esp the kopi O coz I'm sucker for black 🖤 coffee 😁 and for the rest, I'll fill you in from my next reply..

@@Piggypuggy I also cannot say lol. I used to eat this rojak at Toa Payoh Central many years ago. Can’t recall the name. Father and daughter team also. Is all the food video showing being organic food? Are the video encouraging people to eat organic food? Based on the price of organic ingredient, the organic food is tasteless and not much sweetness and flavor. Should use more approved industrial food chemical to enhance the taste and flavor of organic food. Can eat more things into the body.
Usually sold out after lunch. There is one stall run by a elderly lady selling old schoo; Chee Cheong Fun Peanuts Porridge and fried mee and mee hoon store been close for a few month wonder if she OK.

Yes.. as you mentioned before.. it’s all about the prawn soup. I see them peeling loads and loads of prawn heads. Those go into the soup preparation 😋
