Joan, I did get to meet her at Rosie's luncheonette in Brooklyn right around this time 1981. The LaRocca's and Chinnici's were there.

Enjoy her Concerto at Rollins (Winter Park, Fl.) last night - ALMOST PERFECT. You all did an excellent performance COMPLEMENTI. It was like been at City Hall in Cremona with the Maestro playing an Stradivarius next to me.
But I can't pass this opportunity without telling you that the caressing of the strings and the resonance of your instrument creates a powerful sensation in our mind that makes us loose the grip in our muscles. If that makes us happy and playful we do it unintentionally, it is the effect of your music in us. My italian father used to say (translation): "Education comes from the giver, not from the receiver". You are way above all the mundane sounds to allow an innocent foot dancing distract you. Please don't let that tarnish your performance. Nothing could distract Paganini, did it? Keep the good work and visit us again.

Her intonation is a bit fishy but her enthusiasm and clarity make up for it.

I don't know if it's true of all great artists -that they suffer for their work- but Nadja expressed in that five-minute performance every single emotion ever ascribed to the human face. Sometimes pain, sheer joy.., even, perhaps, relief! But I first saw her many years ago profiled on "60 Minutes" and I've loved her talent every moment I could since then.

Just saw her play Piazzola "four seasons of Buenos Aires" in Santa Fe. all these years later, and she still has passion, technique, and drive. Inspirational. And also, what happened to featuring classical music on late night talk shows? Such a shame this music is no longer given a place in our mainstream society

She was a frequent guest violinist in Portland, Oregon for the renowned Oregon Symphony (under the direction of the late great James DePriest, Conductor) in the 1980’s and 90’s! She would twirl her violin during mid performance and the sold out audience would go wild! I am blessed to have seen her perform!

Salerno-Sonnenberg has been, from the very beginning, a violinist whose talent and individual voice were so spectacular that she just could not be denied by those at the highest pinnacle of artistry. But, she was also a woman who wasn’t interested in being demure or in making the important males in that world feel “stroked” or admired enough, deferred to enough, to get a free pass which her virtuosity should have assured her. I’ve always admired the hell out of her for this quality as much as I have loved what she has given us. I wish the men who sliced her in reviews-not her playing, which was far too good to criticize-for her facial grimaces which were “ugly” and not ladylike, and for her fashion choices, the sure way to really hurt a woman as sensitive as she was, and is. It’s been a very hard journey for her, and I’m glad she had so many invitations to appear on Johnny Carson’s show bc he knew how to value and promote her to everyday people. I love her!!

This. Every time I see the similar genius Chris Thile play and rock and sway and grimace violently on stage, I wonder if he is aware of his male privilege.

If I were cocaine, I'd I'd snort Nadja to get high.. the natural, physical, energy she exudes in this was... literally superhuman. Every single time I've see her perform, within 5 seconds, I've said to myself " this is the greatest living virtuoso" . Maybe the single greatest player ever of the violin. This level of excellence in any human is an actual miracle to me.. peace.
