    My lifelong friend and I had some great times playing this at the local arcade in junior high. It probably influenced our decision to join the Army for real. I just did a few years and he made a career of it, ending up a decorated combat veteran. Every time I see Cabal I think of those days at the arcade.

    Yo Patman!
    Am so grateful for you taking the time to do this, and it certainly did not disappoint!
    Have so many happy memories of growing up with this game (and terrible ones of that Amstrad port 😉)
    Thanks to Cabal I grew up convinced it's possible to take down a fast jet or attack helicopter with one single lob of a grenade!
    I'm sure it's happened somewhere, right?
    Thanks again mate, you're a legend! 🇬🇧🇺🇸

    My friend and I loved to play this game in high school. Something adult me notices about this game is that in order to be playable, all the enemies' bullets and weapons appear to travel at roughly 10 mph. 😆

    Another trip down memory lane with the Patman. I’d totally forgotten about this title and played it way back and it all came flooding back.These kind of games were very enjoyable and I also remember the
    game Dynamite Duke that scrolled along with a character in the foreground and the awesome Wild Guns on the SNES.

    The chibi style sprites of the Spectrum and Amstrad version were done intententially, having accurate sprites in the game would mean less on screen and would be harder to see. Ocean also did the same thing with their port of Midnight Resistance.

      @@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries No worries, think Mighty Final Fight on the NES, the hardware can't really run an exact replica, so they go for a stylized version instead.
      I think it was a developer called Special FX who did these games for Ocean, Retro Gamer magazine did a great article on them once.

      Yo, Larry! Nice to see a fellow Brit checking out Patman's content.
      Thanks for the information re Special FX and Ocean.
      I grew up with a C64, and Ocean Software was by far the publisher who released the best movie & TV tie in games.

    It was the trackball that made this game so enjoyable in the arcade. Some games are made to be played with certain controllers. This is especially true with arcade games.
    This is the one game I was disappointed was not included in the Taito collections. It's a classic!

    Played it 2 player in the arcade on a joystick machine it was great. I also played the PC port, but in my memory it had two player mode. Am I wrong about that?

      The MS-DOS version was missing the two player mode. The Amiga and Atari ST versions had it though

    I always thought the ZX spectrum and the amstrad has some ugly grafix.
    I mean I understand the technology at the time wasn't very good.
    But damn those games like tiger electronic handheld games.

      Spectrum was simply not lucky enough to conversion from Arcade system (without R-Type and Chase HQ), but it had its exclusive titles that looked great.

    • @ACanOfBakedBeans
      @ACanOfBakedBeans 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wouldn't say the Amstrad had bad graphics. In fact the color palette was similar to the Master System as it used a similar graphics chip. The probem with the Amstrad was that there was way too many lazy DIRECT ZX Spectrum ports

    • @memyopinionsche6610
      @memyopinionsche6610 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know.
      I wasn't shitting on the amstrad or zx spectrum.
      The Atari 2600 was much better.
      It's the technology of that day.
      But some of those games look like tiger electronics handheld games.
      Just saying.

      To me, C64 resembles more Atari 2600 graphics. Low res, big ugly pixels, hideous colors and translucent sprites .
