Sooooo a kid in a higher socioeconomic area that probably already has access to a better base school also gets an advantage for magnet school? ...

I can understand where you’re coming from with that question.
The goal of the magnet school is to reduce high concentrations of poverty in schools (among other things).
In order to do that, yes, kids in higher socioeconomic areas are brought in. However, the students that live near that school are assigned to that school without having to apply so they live in a lower socioeconomic area but have the opportunity to go to a school with a mix of socioeconomic statuses.
I think there are benefits to having a mix of socioeconomic statuses at a school - what do you think?

Can you sign up for a language immersion school after they've already completed kindergarten?

I believe you can apply to a language immersion magnet any year as long as you apply during the application period. Let me confirm with Libby and get back to you!

According to Libby: “It’s possible to apply yes but very unlikely you will get a seat”
