      @@misterpsych3804 the s2k was a great car but a one trick pony, grrat at the track but that was it! Also u better mame sure u know how to deal with the unepexcted oversteerr but still, now if u want to use it for anything else that motor is a dog, sounds great but hard pass on the streets, i have an ND with a some shock’s and springs nothing crazy but works great as a daily because they’re torque in that engine and revs high enough there is a reason why they keep making them right

    • @binskee677
      @binskee677 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@gigi9467 thats not why it got descontinued, it was the financial crisis! the engine was the main selling point of the car and won multiple international awards like engine of the year for many years. It was also the highest HP per liter production engine ever made for 10 years and it took a Ferrari to beat it. Honda doesn't car about your daily driving and traffic light pulls ... the car was made for the canyons and the track and for that only (why else would someone buy a roadstar anyway) and for that it was perfect in the hands of a capable driver. When i hear people say stuff like "you have to rev it out" and "you HAVE to downshift" i feel like i'm in the wrong movie because reving it out and downshifting is the whole point of the car and the whole point of an engageing driving experience. If you don't like the characteristics of a car then it's just the wrong car for you, maybe a big V8 Mustang suits better to your requirements. Also no one wanted the 2.2l F22c engine except the US, thus it only came to the US. They had to release it in Japan too later to bring the Type S, rest of the world was very happy with the AP1 engine because rest of the world knew a few things about driving and shifting a high reving engine.

      @@binskee677 damn lots of excuses lol yea the engine was great! But only at the track hence why they went from a 2.0 to a 2.2 Americans like torque buddy, sure the financial crisis didnt help but a miata which sold
      In similar
      Numbers didnt ger discontinued, what discontinued the car was the track oriented engine overpriced and wrx and evo u could buy for the same money and be more practical, all this totals to me as a failure of a car like all cars that are discontinued.

      The SK2 was iconic for two reasons...it was a small, lightweight drop top with an engine that loved to rev. I had the 2nd revision of the Honda S2000 in 2001 when they changed the rear window from plastic to glass and altered the toe in of the wheels a little to stop owners flying off the road so often 🙂.
    Later models got a slightly less aggressive throttle response and a smoother gearbox as it became a little more refined.
    Superb car. Power through revs with its VTEC engine.
    It took a Honda CBR 1000RR Fireblade to get me out of it!
    I took delivery of a new Honda Jazz Hybrid yesterday, but I still have the Fireblade for the fast stuff. \o/
    I'll be interested to see what Honda come up with.

      Are you in the USA? USDM didn't get OEM glass rear windows until 2002/2003.
      If you weren't the original owner of the 2001 someone possibly replaced the top and at that point they all basically become glass rear window

    • @dune102
      @dune102 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@dystoypianplaygrounds No I'm in the UK.
      You're right about the years though. I always remember it as 2001 because I ordered it that year (It was imported as a right hand drive UK spec car via Virgin Cars using a Honda dealer in the Netherlands! saving me £3,000 at the time).
      I was a bit annoyed at the Sales people at the nearest two Honda dealers as one had flatly denied any knowledge about a glass rear window being on the the next year's model because he just wanted to sell a 99 year model that he had on the forecourt which didn't appeal because it had so many chips on the bonnet (hood) that it looked like someone had fired a BB gun at it, and it had the plastic rear window.
      The other Honda dealer I visited didn't have a demonstrator and just insisted that I should place an order without having even sat in one, let alone test driven one, and that the car was so special that people just placed an order and waited, and if I didn't like that then that was just too bad.
      Well, I did place an order in the end, but not with either of those two dealers, and I got the car in 2002 about 9 months later.
      I visited the nearest Honda dealer again, and the service department was delighted to add it to the Honda UK database so they could service it etc. and perform any recalls (of which there was one IIRC due to oil bolts being replaced to improve oil flow as a few US cars car blown their engines due to oil starvation on cylinder #1 or #4.)
      The speculation on the UK S2000 forums at the time was that there was either a track with a very high speed long sweeping corner somewhere causing oil to be dragged to the outer side of the engine starving the inner cylinder or maybe some S2000's had been on some of those oval tracks!
      In any case, Honda preempted the problem in the UK with a recall.
      I think the US S200 owners were probably more inclined to mod the cars and drive them hard as they had a 3 year / 60,000 miles IIRC warranty (which I sort of respected/admired them for), whereas the UK got a 90,000 miles / 3 year warranty, meaning that owners kept them very much stock so as not to void the warranty. 🙂

    I estimate that the possible new S2000 will have an MSRP of about $15,000 more than the Miata - so they would not be competitors. The possible new S2000 would compete with the likes of the Toyota Supra, and the Nissan Z. I already owned two Miatas and it’s a blast to drive at a reasonable price. There’s a reason why other roadsters failed in trying to mimic the Miata. The likes of the original S2000, the Honda del Sol, the Toyota MR2, the 2016 to 2029 FIAT 124 are all in the graveyard of history.

    I would love to see s2000 return but not as an electric car. The whole point of a sports car, in my opinion, is to feel connected with the car. That’s why the manual transmission was pushed for the new Z, GR Corolla, Supra ect. That being said unless they’ve already begone production planning the earliest we’re likely to see it is 2028. 5 years seems to be the time line most manufacturers give when releasing teasers to giving us a production version. Now if we could get the GR Yaris states side and the 510 concept Nissan released years ago; then we’d have an abundance of choices for smaller 2 door sports cars.

      Definitely the LFA or the original S2000 because the 4 cylinder V-Tec engine was mindblowing and because of the value stability.

    • @Charge-Drive

      The LFA is probably the single best sounding car ever produced, quite similar sound to the Carrera GT if you think about it, that high pitched V10 is magical

    What they have to preserve about it is it does some sort of Honda pointy effort look in a way that makss it like there are so much more styles of cars in the world. I think they should anchor in by doing their Job at that and being the pointiest.

    My thoughts on a new Honda 3 cylinder turbo engine . Toyota with its g16e-gts engines showing the way towards the future and why not ? Honda have 3 cylinder engines and is very able to upsize and upgrade itself . I believe this is the way to the next s2000. Because weight is the issue and my gr4 engine is like close to half the weight of 4 cylinder engines of the same power.

    I like the linear power delivery of a naturally aspirated engine. That said, my pick up truck is a twin turbo V6 and my Miata is a Greddy turbocharged 1.6…. My only NA car is my 74 Falcon, but even that will eventually have a fake blower on it. :)

    Honestly If the Corvette was able to push into the amazing modern day ear without electrification, Honda's new S2000 should be doing the same. The S2000 was almost on par with the original NSX. I'm curious if they will go that route with the new one, hybrid power train.

    Doubt it'll be the k20c. I bet it's the 1.5 turbo L engine. It's more in line and budget for a miata competator and something fun. A 300 hp rwd s2k future vehicle would be a 60k car easy

    • @binskee677
      @binskee677 ปีที่แล้ว

      the original s2k was also never a miata competitor and cost the double of a NB miata, it was more in line of the Boxster, the Z3/Z4 etc performance and price wise
