I have owned 4 Versions of the Subaru brand in the past 20 years of driving them and have used Equal and unequal length headers. My advise is if your a daily driven Subie and not really worried about unreliable power bands and want more of that boxer rumble than unequal is where you want to be. I will warn you though unequal are very unpredictable . They tend to create more heat on one side than the other and can cause extreme power loss. As for equal length they are to me by far the best way to go either way daily driven or track. Like I said I have have four Subaru’s in the past 20 years of owning them and I personally will never go unequal. I will admit the tone is noticeably different but I have better power and I also have noticed the spool up time is much better than unequal. Boost is more consistent and way less EGT temps as well. But it is up to you what you go with I just wanted to lend a friendly suggestion. You Boys be safe out there and keep the faith with the Boxer.
I literally just received my killerb headers yesterday! Amazing quality, I have an EJ207 so I stayed Equal Length. I'd recommend Equal Length just because it's healthier for your motor and 90% of subies are unequal so it's nice to change things up once and a while!
And id say the difference in the sound is the packing in the mufflers if one is older than the other and has blown out more of the packing it may sound more "raspy"...
I think it all goes down to your midpipe. Maybe a leak or resonator is giving out. Lol i;m just guessin and it'll be cool if y'all made custom splitters!
I think it mainly comes down to the tune, I know for my 08 wrx every time I had a revision to make each tune sounded different, one tune would sound way louder than the other, and second would be the ago of both exhausts.
They both sound sweet but I definitely think it's the exhaust manifold. Subaru must have changed it slightly with the generation upgrade. They typically use the same parts for a decade or so before they decide to change it.
I don't know much about subaru's but one thing I've heard alot is that they get the classic subi rumble from unequal length headers and if you switch the unequal length headers to equal length headers you don't get much of that classic subi rumble. i may be wrong but i just though id share. and good content i just subscribed and have really been enjoying your guys videos. keep it up

Catless exhausts will sound raspier than the cat versions, that's just a given. I like the sound of both. Yours sounds a lot more rugged and off the leash.
If one of you two is running an aftermarket uppipe and the other is running a stock uppipe that will cause a different sound. Also being lowered can make the exhaust sound different, but I would look for a exhaust leak somewhere. Go with unequal lenght headers if you want to keep the subie rumble.
Anything to do with the fact that the 06 is 2.5ltr against the 04 2.0ltr..... just a thought ...keep up the great work guys ....youve reached Australia land......peace out
Maybe if you get a different rear muffler yours will sound more like Nestors? if u have exact same engine, turbos, manifolds, exhausts, but yours still sound different I would say the problem lies somewhere in the rear muffler.. I would highly recommend Blitz Nur Spec exhaust, they make awesome sound. I know its a 2 year old vid now but feel free to reach out to tell what happend, im curious about this myself.
Do a compression test and see if they are different. Thats about the only thing that i can think of if intake, turbo, long block, manifold, up-pipe, and exhaust are all the same.

Snail performance / M45 is a team that actually races time attack and is a Cobb certified tuner as Gear performance..... well.... yeah..... anyways, I run Full-Race twin scroll equal length headers. It no longer has the boxer rumble and no where near as loud. If your going to build your own splitter you can buy a used nascar splitter online reasonably, cut it down, and buy the rods from McMaster Carr but it's more of a track car part. If your going to use it on the street, engineer a way to take it off easily and quickly.
Any resonator deletes? Or maybe the resonator is going bad? Try swapping the mid pipes with each other to test and see how they sound. I don't think the issue is with your headers either if it's more an issue on the raspiness/how refined the note is, it might have something to do with the restricting components like muffler/resonators etc.
Yo nice car, but I think the tune make me the car sound different cuz both of you guy have diffrent tune, but I’m pretty sure yours have more air coming out the exhaust cuz of that.
I'm looking for an exhaust setup for my 04 sti which is currently stock. I also am not a fan of the fart cannon sound. Might just wait to see how yours comes out after you change downpipes! Do you still recommend the catback you have on there now?
Kazoo, if I was you I would get a Grimm speed catted divorce waste gate down pipe ceramic coated. Match it to an invidia Q300 to look like a stock mufffler, with a Grimm speed up pipe with a flex joint and aem cold air intake, Tomei turbo inlet,Grimm speed EBCS and get it protuned. But in reality if I was doing my car again I would do full suspension setup first, you would be amazed on how these GD chassis react way better with just sways..
Jsm madrid well when I say stock I mean engine and exhaust wise. I just put BC Racing Coilovers in last weekend, and I believe the previous owner put in aftermarket sways. Thank you for such a detailed response. I shall research it all!
The 04 sti sounds deeper, the 06 sti sounds more under control, the difference in sound could be the up pipes on the 04 it’s catted up and down and on the 06 it should be just a cat on the down pipe, my 04 sounds like a bat out of hell, equal length would be best for your cars so it doesn’t detonate at the wrong time and it helps the cars breath better in the bottom and top end so it’s a win win, but like you said it’s up to you on what you want to do with your car and as far as changing the exhaust I think it would be a waste of money unless you were changing the down and up pipe for the Perrin rotated turbo set up, but that’s just my opinion on the subject.
Are they both mild steel or stainless steel, they sound different to each other, to sound the same you need the same exhaust made with the same steel and same 3ngine
I have an 04 just like yours but with a Perrin downpipe instead, wishing I would have gone with a different setup. Idk why but I can’t really hear the rumble inside while cruising, maybe it’s the drone? Looking at going full Perrin turbo back not but not sure what to do.
Does it fully stock WRX and a fully stock WRXSTI make the same exhaust sound like rumble and like the actual sound or do the two cars sound right different stock
How hard is it for you to take your 2004 sti front bumper off? Also you should come up to cinci and compare the db of your exhausts to my e85 ej207 swapped 04 sti 3.5" straight pipe to 4" invidia n1 race
Are both cars us spec cars or is one a jdm import. The jdm imports have different headers to suit a twinscroll turbo. That's another question are they both the same turbo.
Get a jdm blitz nur spec r exhaust its way better than what you gonna buy locally let it be invidia or whatever other brand Out of curiosity do you still have any clutch juddering issues evertime you engage the clutch

Well main reason is Up to the hawkeye Wrx sti was 2.0L engine , 2006 and up is 2.5L

It sounds like the headers are different to me. If not then the baffling in your muffler could be a bit more broken down

I'm running an HKS hi xpower exhaust with an invidia downpipe and it sounds amazing, pretty quiet at idle but gets reasonably loud in the higher rpms

Hawkeye is a 2.5 liter and the blobeye is 2.0
There both have 2.5l
Definitely sounds like you have a leak or are you sure the resonator isn't cut out?
They both sound good but Danny's does have the fart can sound honestly Tomei cat back would really clean up the sounds with the invidia downpipe

Packing might be out. Sounds like yours is more straight piped than a performance exhaust
raspness comes from the cat. so if u have a decat it will be very raspy. id recommend a sport cat if u dnt have one already

Get a vortex afterburner from scoobyworld there based here in UK but it sounds awesome
