Jefferson is one of America's most famous and controversial Founding Fathers. In this tour, we'll learn about his life and achievements at Monticello. From his architecture to his political philosophies, this video will give you a better understanding of one of America's most influential figures. Monticello was the home of our third President, Thomas Jefferson.
Jefferson was a founding father of the United States of America and the author of the Declaration of Independence. He also wrote the Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom (separation of church and state) and founded the University of Virginia.

Jefferson was immensely intelligent and kept great records of his accounts at Monticello.
He did not take part in the War of Independence but instead was the Secretary of State in France.
There are some great facts about Jefferson, but perhaps his relationship and children with Sally Hemings is the most controversial.
The fact that he owned slaves is a massive bone of contention for us whilst walking around Monticello and we in no way condone this. It was an abhorrent time in America's history and one which Monticello handles with grace and class.

This brought back beautiful memories. We went to Monticello in 1964. I remember that ice house. I agree it was smaller than it looked from the outside. thank for TBE history on how it was preserved.
