I think a big theme with both Charlotte and Trey was being in love with ideas. In love with the idea of marriage, the idea of kids, the idea of Charlotte as the perfect wife, the idea of Trey as the perfect husband.
I'm going to jump on the Steve hate train. In all seriousness, what did Steve ever change about himself, what did he ever sacrifice for Miranda? My recollection is Miranda had to change everything about herself to make their relationship work.
I used to think that Aidan was rushing Carrie during their second attempt. But now that I’m in my 30s, I can understand where he’s coming from. They had already been together for a while. She had agreed to move in with him and he bought her apartment and the one next to it for them both to live in. He proposed and she said yes. At that point, you should know whether or not you want to be with someone forever. I’m not saying they should get married immediately but Aidan is not weird for wanting Carrie to make a real commitment. Especially given their history. If they want to settle down and have a family then the clock is ticking for them- they’re in their mid 30s. Carrie is still debating having kids in her late 30s when dating Alexsander so the biological clock aspect would have been something she and Aidan were well aware of. When I was in my 20s, I thought Aidan was being unreasonable and rushing Carrie but now I’m much more sympathetic. I don’t want to have bio kids so I don’t feel that pressure to be settled in a relationship by my late 30s but I can’t imagine how much harder it makes things for people who are single at that age and want to have bio kids. The pressure you feel is probably immense. Hell, I remember feeling pressured to settle down in my late 20s after my bf of 8yrs broke up with me and I was single for the first time since college.
Charlotte slurping her soda loudly when Carrie needs a down payment for her apartment is the funniest thing ever. I think everyone except Carrue experiences the largest character growth
I think Carrie's obsession with shoes is meant to represent her need for independence/wanting to live alone. Carrie likes being alone as much as she likes dating and she'd rather be able to spread her shoes around her own apartment (which is completely valid). This could be totally off the mark tho since the only way I've consumed SATC is through commentators like you so yeah
This actually makes a ton of sense. Like her shoes are almost like pets but EXTREMELY low maintenence and she can take them everywhere? Or am I off track?
Creator Michael Patrick King made the cardboard baby storyline bc he gave someone a cardboard baby. So in the time that I learned that information, I went from thinking Trey was a psychopath who should be studied to looking at the creator of Sex and the City as a psychopath who should be studied.
I think Carrie's obsession with shoes and expensive shoes at that comes from her childhood. She mention that her dad left her at an early age and her mother was a single mom. She must have come from humble beginnings and for her it gives her a sense of belonging to a community of fashion chic elite of NY. She is also most likely addicted to the way it makes her feel to shop. Such as when she has a hard day she turns to shopping. It gives her a 'high' that sex or food don't give her. She is addicted to shoes like she is to Mr. Big. She can't and refuses to let go of both. Even though her shoe collection is $40k and her relationship with Big is toxic with him being avoidant attachment style vs her being anxious attachment style. The two make it great for the chase and the 'high' to feel something.
@@cariosasweeney1102 She mentions her dad left her and her mom in one of the episodes in the tv show from the 90/2000s . I don’t remember the exact episode but it’s when Carrie is working at Vogue and the older man is like “I can be your daddy” when she thought he wanted to step in to be an actual father figure other than a romantic interest.
I think Carrie and Aidan shouldn’t have gotten back together without a real conversation about the affair. Carrie just wasn’t ready to settle down but Aiden was. He wanted kids and stability. It just wasn’t going to work while they were in their 30’s.
YES I agree. You hit a certain point in the relationship where you can’t keep your real feelings secret I love a quote that someone said where they were like “the fight isn’t ALWAYS what’s important it’s how you repair afterwards”
Carrie was completely out of line with the money situation, that was the point I decided I wasn’t a Carrie and never wanted to be again. I know she did plenty crappy things but that was totally crazy to me and the fact Charlotte came around smh. Samatha deserved so much better, she got the short end of the stick so many times and she was probably the best friend out of all of them. Rewatching the series I truly fell in love with Samatha, I am not as sexually liberated but her confidence, style, and just love for her friends hit’s different as an adult.
Even tho I definitely agree that the way Carrie came to Charlotte was super rude, and very disrespectful, I don't know if I'm seeing wrong but I have watched that episode at least 3 times and what I kind of got from Carrie point of view was the fact Charlotte just looked around in silent like ignoring her and her problem and didn't offer any support (maybe not only money) to her like the other 2 did, because that's what she says when she goes to Charlotte's apartment, she said something along the lines of "when you needed me I was there listening to you and supporting you not looking away" so I can kind of see where she was coming from There, only there. After that all the things she told her and how she pretty much was so condescending tours Charlotte income was the worst and super uncalled for. Again I don't agree with Carrie, I'm just saying what her feeling was about Charlotte looking away and not saying anything to her.
The one moment we miss as viewers is when Trey says he would be happy if it was only him and Charlotte. We like to crap on Trey..cause he sucks and he is a mama's boy, but that was kinda a sweet moment. But you can tell with Charlotte's feelings...if she doesn't have a baby...why the heck is is even with Trey? She doesn't love him, just the idea of him and the life they project, not the life they have. I like that the writers gave Charlotte and Harry Lilly, because they are great people who wanted to be parents, the race or gender didn't matter.
I gotta say, Charlotte's hair like each and every episode was just giving this particular season. But also, I have to give it up to Carrie and her Dad jokes, I really enjoy her witty humor...it can be wholesome and a great laugh. Like when her computer dies. I just watch that clip over and over, lmao. I like that line where she goes "Wait a minute, you're in a relationship?" To Samantha. Which is so genius because isn't that the real shock? But all that queer bashing is so distasteful. Oh Carrie. So charming, but such garbage.
I think Carrie's obsession with shoes can also be tied with her obsession for New York. In one of the episodes Carrie's narration even makes this connection "Like any other respectable woman in NY Charlotte was obsessed with shoes" (it was the foot fetish episode I think). Carrie struts around NY like she owns it, and to Carrie NY itself represents success (monetary and/or in love life like when Big and her finally get together, and he puts a shoe on her foot, gives her a shoe closet, and Big himself represents both wealth and love). Her shoes are always very expensive too which fits with the monetary success part. Carrie walking on the sidewalks of NY in her bougie shoes often looks like her saying "I conquered NY". She's always very confident in a good pair of shoes. The only time she was forced to wear ugly shoes she hated (after she got robbed and hers were stolen), she was stumbling around panicking and hyperventilating.
And the moment she started writing for vogue, got in the vogue closet and found the Mary Jane Monolos but were the wrong size, she forced her feet in them nonetheless because they were a “shoe myth”. Yep, girl’s obsessed 😂
Trey was really awkward, I don't think he knew how to have deeper interpersonal relationships because he didn't need to, because he always had his mother. Trey was perfect on paper but off in real life.
I watched these episodes as they aired, yes I watched the first season and I was 14 during the first season. Now I'm reaching 40 and damn, the episode with Miranda and her neck has me howling. The shoe obsession comes with something that is truly hers and something that others can respect I think. The episode where she goes to that birthday party and her shoes get stolen. Carrie did spend a lot of money on shoes but at the end of the day in that particular episode, Carrie was right and her friend had no right to judge her for not being married and being childless. Carrie’s shoes aka her life are just as meaningful as other people’s accomplishments. I find myself more like Charlotte but that episode Carrie had my full respect because if someone offers to comp you for shoes that were lost on their watch then they better pay it in full.
I understand the obsession with the shoes but like girl... this adorable man who loves and adores you should be a little bit more important than some pairs of shoes that you probably won't even wear them anymore. Can't stop thinking that everything could be resolved by Carrie going to therapy
Btw, Steve was hot. Don't try to tell me he wasn't. And, Trey just emotionally beat Charlotte up. I think it shows how clueless men are with the the risk and pain women will put themselves through to build a family. She's literally injecting herself with dangerous medication. He should have told Charlotte sooner rather than later. Idk, that whole thing really always bothered me. Horrible.
I know, right? Dude, you're like almost 50 or something, i don't know... If you're agreeing to things just because you're afraid of conflict-go to therapy! You're a freaking doctor!!!
I dont hate steve but he held miranda back a lot. He didnt really respect thr work she was putting in. Especially with the dog! like wtf. I dont think i wouldve left him.
Shoes almost always fit. I can go back to them time and time again and every single pair makes me feel different and I usually buy them at certain times so they might be equated with a memory. But I can’t always go back to any outfit. Most times I can’t. My weight always fluctuates and that might make me sad or if I’m shopping for some retail therapy trying on clothes might make me feel worse. But the shoes always fit and they always make me feel good. I love my shoes.
i completely relate to this. my weight fluctuates a lot so it makes shopping harder, but i’m more attached to buying nice handbags because similarly to shoes, they always fit
Regarding the shoes, Carrie to me seems like a person who experienced childhood trauma and has become an emotionally immature codependent adult. So maybe the shoes symbolize her desire to ground down after a traumatic past.
In my opinion Carrie's obsession with shoes represents her need to control. The one thing she runs to do even to her detriment is buy shoes. After every breakup or disappointment she buys shoes clothes and or accessories to make herself feel better instead of facing her problems. Remember when she threw the bills away after her card was declined when she attempted to buy this fake Dolce shoes. And also when she was being hit on by the politician. And even after her big blow up with Charlotte she still would buy the most expensive pair of shoes because she felt she needed them. Although the shoes didn't help her situation or make her better as a human.
Its not about shoes. I remember even when this came out there we so many people talking about how shallow and materialistic she is. Firstly its about merger of things. This is especially hard if youre moving into someones appartment that has already lived there alone for a decent amount of time and made worse if the apartment is small. Expecting people to throw out their collections or hobbies out the window for you is weird and will most likely result in a bad time. The bottom line is they both shouldve thought about it and figured out a system to deal with the temporary overcrowding instead of just hoping for the best.

Aiden was the worst and I’ll never understand why people like him so much. He is if “If you loved me you would…” was a person. He wanted to change a person who didn’t want to change and got played twice.
@@christopherbrown5409Well, the smoking thing(which wasn't a bad thing to quit especially because Carrie smoked a lot. When they were out in California I kind of noticed how much she smoked)I believe when they first met but he didn't want to date her unless she gave up smoking?
I agree, and it's annoying how bad ppl are always talking about how much SJP has aged, but Aidan or Big didn't age like fine wine and I was all good with not seeing John Corbett in his tighty whities. All SJP has is some wrinkles because she's aging gracefully, IMO. Ijs
@@faithruckdeschel1294 he said he can't date a smoker, and SHE decided to give up her nasty cigarettes (yay!) for a guy (yay...) she barely knew (gujfdjgfnn). She could've parted ways then and there, but chose not to. That's not his fault.
@faithruckdeschel1294 John Corbett & Chris Noth look fine. SJP would look better if she didn't insist on using heavy eye makeup around her small eyes and pulling her hair back in those SEVERE buns (like at Big's funeral)
Dog crates aren't like room though, 99% of those I've seen are small. Sure the dog can stand up and move a little, but that's not enough space for any animal. It's less like a room and more like a mini closet.

Aiden was the worst and I’ll never understand why people like him so much. He is if “If you loved me you would…” was a person. He wanted to change a person who didn’t want to change and got played twice.
He didn't try to change her; no one told Carrie to give up smoking and weekend in Suffern for him
@@christopherbrown5409Well, the smoking thing(which wasn't a bad thing to quit especially because Carrie smoked a lot.
Charlotte's Burberry trench!! To die. 🌹
Wait, what! Not liking steve!
Dog crates aren't like room though, 99% of those I've seen are small. Sure the dog can stand up and move a little, but that's not enough space for any animal. It's less like a room and more like a mini closet.
What took you so long I missed you 🌠
Currently sobbing hi hellooo
