Does this guy even realize this silly little song he wrote for Nickelodeon is a staple for all of our childhoods…not to mention he did not have to go that hard.
I love this specifically because it's such a silly premise for a song, it's such an absurd starting place that you have to go along with to get invested in, much like SpongeBob as a show in general. You have to place yourself in a more childlike, wondrous headspace to realize that it's not about the details of who's missing or what the plot of the episode was, this is a song about losing a pet, a friend, a loved one, and it is unrelentingly honest and heartfelt in every fucking note. The fact that it's so silly also let's you come up for air amid your tears with giggles at how funny it is you're crying over a lost cartoon snail, and at how wonderful it is some people were capable of writing a story so silly and yet so meaningful that it's both accessible and important to young children. This is why I will always cherish Spongebob as critical viewing for basically anyone under the age of 30.
