- Aegina is a close island to day trip from Athens. In March, if the weather is good, it can be a good place to come, as things are open, unlike on some Greek islands.

Ah yes the smell I know what you mean. As soon as you walk out of the airport terminal it hits you- not an unpleasant smell- it is just your welcome to Greece
Exactly! I love it.
Nice vlog i know what you mean about that smell it always hits me when we arrive in Greece 🍻
I’m glad other people smell it too. I always think I am imagining it.
I've been to Aegina a few times. April last year was my most recent
It's a great stop off for a couple of nights on my way to Poros, another beautiful small island, a skip, and a hip from the mainland. Aegina is a well worth visit. ❤❤❤
That sounds like a lovely trip!
Wonderful video! We did a day trip to Aegina last summer in July. We want to return for a longer visit. We spent the day at Marathon Beach and had lunch at a cute little place called La Palma. Brought back some great memories. Thank you! :)
Sounds lovely!
I’ve just booked my ferry tickets for an Aegina day trip. I’ll be there at end of April for my first visit to Greece. Will also be visiting Athens, Delphi, Santorini and Thessaloniki. Would love to see more but that will have be saved for another visit. Thanks for your videos. They have been very helpful.
Wonderful! You are hitting some great spots too. Greece will be here waiting for the next time too. Thank you!
I took that day cruise to the three islands once!
Did you like it?
I was born in Canada, but baptized in Aegina, so I feel my spirit was born in Greece.
That sounds like a great story!
Beautiful weather, interesting old buildings and harbor, keep it up! A suggestion: mix in some still photos of the buildings, cat, and harbor into the vlog. Just to make them more memorable.
Thanks!!
Woq such nice weather. I wish we had some sun here too .
It was amazing. It got a bit cool this week so I picked the right weekend.
What is the coffee you were drinking? Was it a big cup of Greek coffee.
An americano. I don’t take sugar or milk so it’s the best option for me.
@@agirlandherpassportI have done something completely un-Greek and put a dash of vanilla oat milk in my Greek coffee. I'm trying to stay away from sugar and creamer so it was my best option. It was fine.
@muddywaters538 if it works, then it’s not bad!
I’ve been twice to aegina and never knew anything about Apollos temple. Thank you for the intro
You’re welcome!
I love that island. If you ever want to spend the night, there are many cheap airbnbs in Aegina limani and nearby there are many great seafood restaurants. You can also stay at other spots on the island. The Templ and monastery and amazing!
I have spent a whole weekend there. But not in the main town.
Pistachio ice cream in Aegina 👌
The best!
The walking queen is back in action
Thanks!
Near aegina are Islands like hydra and spetses that are also beautiful and thriving . If you visit aegina i recommend visiting them too. They also played a big role in the greek independence. The locals were very experienced sea men and led the greek fleet . If you are interested in history you can Google names like Miaoulis and the greek heroine Bouboulina
I have been to Hydra a few times. Not to Spetes though. It’s on my list!
Spetes was my first greek destination many years ago, first holiday on my own, first time in an aircraft, and started my love affair with Greece which has continued ever since.@@agirlandherpassport
Really interesting thankyou!
You’re welcome!
Nice lookin fruit bowl and coffee at the beginning of the video. Beautiful day and gorgeous euro architecture. It is Spring! What?? No zucchini balls for lunch?
You know me well. Sadly not on the menu at this place.
How was that walk from the old town to the Temple of Apollo? I mapped it on Google maps and it looked like portions didn’t have a sidewalk…..
It is fine. Yes, there isn't a sidewalk the whole way but its not an issue if you don't have mobility issues.
So sorry for the garbled message. I have a bad habit of dictating and not proofreading. The herb is called. Fenugreek
No worries. Thanks!
We spent two weeks in Aegina some years back and we loved it. We stayed in Souvala in the north. Souvala was still somewhere you didn't feel you were overwhelming the locals with tourists. We went all over the island, but never needed a car. If you wanted to get around the bus service or the local taxis served us well. The day trips available from Aegina were a big thing for us. Ancient Corinth, Mycenae, Poros. Athens, Mykonos and Hydra. Each day trip followed by days of just chilling out, or getting round beautiful Aegina at leisure. Great food, wonderful people. No schedule, just doing what we felt like when we felt like it. The big winner? Affordable but quality. Well done to you for pronouncing Aegina as the locals do. So many other vids pronouncing with authority and totally wrong. May you have many more wonderful travels.
You eat dust with all these cars driving by in the port.
Visit Kefalonia it smells like Paradise! Beautiful day trip in Aegina! ❤
It was on my list already, so definitely want to go smell it now.
Nice walking tour, reminds me of island hopping down the Adriatic and congrats on the 10K Subs!
Thank you!!
Beautiful island isn't it, and easy to get there. Thanks for sharing with us 😊 😀
It is! You're welcome!
13:26 It looks like the Titanic! 😬
Haha! Fortunately, no sinking for this ship.
Beautiful!
Thank you!
Very interesting the ancient site you visited and completely agree with you that the ancients chose the best sites, sounio temple of Poseidon is a typical example
@konstantinosstamatopoulos425 They knew where to build!
Aegina has long been a popular vacation destination for Athenians, along with Salamina, and it continues to be so.
I can definitely see why. It’s a nice place to go. And so easy to get to.
Right on the dock, she walked right by it the memorial of Dr. Samuel Gridley Howe. I wonder if she saw it
I didn’t. I don’t know who that is. Tell me more!
Dr. Howe an American, who fought in the war of independence for Greece returned back to Boston and opened up the first school for the deaf and blind. He also started a newspaper and wrote about slavery in the south. He was largely inspired by Byron. @@agirlandherpassport
🙏 However, I still prefer ATHENS 😊
When you move here, you need to get out and explore more of Greece!
Have been doing just that, however I'm a “city tourist “ not a beach traveler... 😊
Nothing wrong with that!@@shaulkirsch1263
Have a great weekend 😊
Thanks, you too!@@shaulkirsch1263
Oh thank you, you filmed the hotel we'll be staying at 😍❤️. We're heading back to the same hotel again. 30 years since our honeymoon there. I'll have to introduce myself to the great great great etc grandchildren of the cats I made friends with in 1994 😂 My husband will (still) be pulling this face 🙄 😁 X
You're welcome! You will have lots of cats to meet. There were tons across the street.
We did indeed 😂
There is some Mythology about the ants in Aegina. Maybe Apollo turned the ants into soldiers to fight Achilles? Or for Achilles? I don’t remember, but I did notice the ants are huge there!
I looked it up and saw different variations but the ants were created to repopulate the island. Eventually they go to assist Achilles fighting in Troy.
I am enjoying your videos. I too noticed that maple syrup smelled very first time. I went to Greece and it has such a nostalgic effect on me now. I feel like I’m home when I smell it. My research tells me that it comes from a while Herb called Pennell Greek. I live here in Northeastern Canada on the island of Newfoundland. I am able to grow it in summer, and when the sun shines, the smell is released and I feel like I’m transported back back to Greece.
Thank you! And thanks for finding out what the smell comes from. I might need to get some for my balcony.
Hi, your content is really awesome and it was so engaging! keep up the great work.
Thank you so much!
