Competing in the FAR Dollar Per Foot challenge, the ARES division of the UCLA Rocket Project managed to launch and recover a liquid bipropellant rocket up to 22,000ft AGL. With good altimeter data and a re-flyable rocket, the team have achieved the best performance of any surviving liquid rocket known so far.
The ARES team has been bolstered with familiar faces from the Prometheus Hybrid team, which provides the team with a consistently seasoned launch team. Other launch teams really need to learn from UCLA's example and create multiple launch divisions to provide students with the experience they need to reliably launch rockets.
