  • Marcus and Bob discuss the Jewish roots of the Catholic faith. Bob was brought up in a largely non-practicing Jewish family. He was allowed to study any religion or philosophy except Christianity. At the age of 17, he obtained a New Testament. When he was in the Navy, he met a born again Christian who invited him to learn more about Jesus. In response, Bob went to his rabbi and studied the prophecies of the Messiah for 3 years. He accepted Jesus as his Messiah and was baptized in a United Pentecostal church.
    Over the years he was a member of several denominations, and became frustrated by the contradictory teachings he found in some of them. Returning to an in-depth study of Judaism, Bob was drawn to the richness of the Catholic Church. He entered RCIA and was baptized and confirmed as a Jewish Catholic Christian.

    my favorite line of this, " you don't have to stop being Jewish "
    I wish SO badly that priests would teach Catholics much more about the Jewish roots of our faith. The fulfillment of J in C is immeasurably beautiful!

    Steven sorry as a Catholic you never read scripture as a Baptist I did and found in Matthew 16 18 Jesus began Church on Peter all the Catholic Church is from scripture. John 6 51 55 the Eucharist confession is in John I had been lied to by people who don't and didn't seek the truth but accepted blindly. When in 40 I found out different, from Library to scripture, grace I saw the apostolic line. The Library confirmed this from Peter onward. There is only one truth one Church. I came Home know my Lord more and fuller. I followed my personal Savior to his Church.

    ROMAN CATHOLIC BORN 33 AD FOUNDER JESUS CHRIST IN HEAVEN

  • @Historian212
    @Historian212 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    This gentleman is mistaken about many things in Judaism, but I was surprised to hear him also be so mistaken about crucifixion. He calls crucifixion a Persian form of execution. That's so obviously wrong that it's shocking. The Roman Empire used crucifixion to execute, and they used it on hundreds of Jewish and non-Jewish rebels before and after Jesus. It was a punishment for sedition -- trying to rebel against Rome -- which is how they obviously regarded a man known to be proclaiming himself King.
    Given this egregious error, it makes sense to question his other claims. I don't know what Orthodox rabbi he studied with, but the problem there is that most rabbis don't understand Christian claims (because they don't care to), so this rabbi did not address Mr. Rothman's erroneous, Christian-based understanding of the ancient Judaic sacrificial system, messianic expectations, etc. and he proceeds to teach these understandings to unsuspecting Christians.
    I know he is sincere, and I'm not trying to bash him. I was once a Jewish Christian, and I believe that each person has the right to worship as God leads them. I feel that the Catholic Church has a strong tradition, beautiful rites -- I especially appreciate Mary veneration -- and so on. But most Jews who convert have primarily been taught what they know by Christians, and see the Bible through a Christian lens. It's not a Jewish one.
    For example: in the ancient temple in Jerusalem, not all sacrifices were blood sacrifices. In fact, most were not. You can read for yourself: there were many types of grain-based offerings, and also incense offerings. These are described in the Bible, but few people -- even few Jews -- really study them. They are deemed to be "boring" ritual sections. And the details of the meanings of the sacrifices are found in Jewish tradition -- the Talmud and other ancient texts -- not in the Bible. There are Jewish books in English that summarize these meanings, but most people don't seek out rabbinical sources to discover which books are worthwhile. And don't bother asking a Jew you happen to know, unless they have made a careful study of the material. Most Jews haven't. Which is why so many Jewish converts believe Christian teachings. They just don't know.
    Why don't Jews believe in Jesus as the messiah? Not because they're looking for a conquering King (much as is described in the Revelation of John, so Christians have this expectation, too). It's because the prophecies teach that the messiah will bring peace to the world. Not just individual, inner peace, but a cessation of war and violence. Until that day dawns, don't expect to see knowledgeable Jews converting en masse.
    Many Jews of the Chabad Lubavitch movement still believe that the late Lubavitcher rebbe (different shade of meaning than "rabbi") is the messiah; that although his physical body ceased to function, he lives on in spirit, rather like a saint (there are saints in Jewish tradition). Some of those believers have faith that when the messiah comes, he won't be Jesus, but the rebbe. Most Jews either don't know about this belief, don't care, or think this is too "Christian" of a notion for them.
    I wish Mr. Rothman well. But I hope he finds the time to keep studying Jewish tradition with a real rabbi, or at least read some history by real historians (I recommend the historian Paula Fredriksen). If he's going to teach about Judaism and Jewish history, he should at least get it right.

      The problem is that he went to a random rabbi, but not to professionals like Jews for Judaism, who understand exactly what goes through a Jewish Xtian's mind and understand the Xtian perspective of scripture, because many of them are former Jewish Xtians themselves. And while he was overcome emotionally by his first visit to a church service, he never really had the education to give his own background a chance (if he ever went, for example, to a vibrant Orthodox Jewish Shabbat or Simchat Torah service, he didn't mention it).
      I was a religion minor in college, and had lots of exposure to the NT. My teenage son asked permission to read the NT, and unlike Mr Fishman's parents, I had no trouble saying yes, because with his Yeshiva background, I knew he had the grounding to understand where Xtianity contradicts the Torah, and while it might be fine for the Gentiles, it is not for us.

      Historian212; What faith are you.
      John 5:23
      I am come in the name of my Father, and you receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him you will receive.
      Jesus knew he would be rejected by his own people.Jewish people.
      But John was saying; the Jews will accept a False messiah which will be the Anti christ.
      Even some of the Catholic elect will be fooled.
      As some Catholics will also experience rejection from their own people.

      gejyspa; I could not help but noticed you wrote Xitan; you could not even bring yourself to say Christian lol.
      Mr.Fishman a Jew had his veil lifted from his heart to understand Christ is the messiah.We thank him for his testimony for Christ.
      Don't harden your heart like at meribah.
      Jesus is the face of God Almighty.
      And yes salvation comes from the Jews.

    To be Jewish, you must have a Jewish mother. And Catholics have a Jewish mother... Mother Mary. The Lord, while He hanged on the cross, said to the apostle he loved, son, behold thy mother." All those who refused Mary, the new Eve, refuses the covenant offered by God.
    Catholics are Jews, the chosen people with a new Covenant from God Himself

      Garbage. Catholics are not Jews. Jews were persecuted by the Catholic church as well as many other branches of Christianity, were driven from their homeland and continually kicked out of various countries.

    • @marklim6452
      @marklim6452 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      dave d Catholics are the continuation of Judaism... The Jews of old no longer exist. They are no longer the chosen people from the time they rejected Christ by declaring, "we have no king but Caesar".. They rejected the covenant. The Jews (the Apostles and their disciples) who recognized God through Christ were `the first Christians".. They continue being in that covenant. And we have Mary as our mother, Christ made it that way..

      Not according to Paul

      @marklim6452 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      dave d yup, God never rejected His people.. It was the Jews, or at least some of them, who rejected the Covenant when they shouted "we do not have any king, but Ceasar."
      But some of the Jews did not reject Jesus as their King and those Jews became the first Christians... All the Apostles are Jews by the way..

      The chief priests rejected him as did the zealots. There were "many" who did believe Jesus was the messiah. Paul means that they aren't rejected as per Jeremiah 33
      "23 The word of the Lord came to Jeremiah: 24 Have you not observed how these people say, “The two families that the Lord chose have been rejected by him,” and how they hold my people in such contempt that they no longer regard them as a nation? 25 Thus says the Lord: Only if I had not established my covenant with day and night and the ordinances of heaven and earth, 26 would I reject the offspring of Jacob and of my servant David and not choose any of his descendants as rulers over the offspring of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. For I will restore their fortunes, and will have mercy upon them."

    If you watch this video closely between 0:24 - 0:31 you will see the pope (who is *not* smiling) holding up the round, white wafer, which we is a depiction of the *SUN* *god* and is *well DOCUMENTED* in The Two Babylons by: Alexander Hislop which you can download here > www.ldolphin.org/PDFs/The_Two_Babylons-Alexander_Hislop.pdf
    As I have said before and will keep saying, the Roman Catholic church *TELL ON THEMSELVES*
    The Round white wafer *SUN* "god" *MORPHS* into the *SUN*
    Exactly what it *IS!!!* a depiction of the *SUN god*

    • @mZaoa
      @mZaoa 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because it is round and white does not, in anyway, mean it has anything to do with a sun god. That 'wafer' just happens to be the species in which the one True God CHOOSES to reside, just as He promised. That 'wafer' is truly the Body,Blood, Soul and Divinty of of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour. The vehicle by which He not only makes Himself present to us, but, by receiving Him worthely into our bodies He draws the faithfull into the Divine life - something a sun god, or any other false, man made god, could possibly do.

    • @granflecha
      @granflecha 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That round white "wafer" is a type of the matza or unleavened bread that is used in the passover meal, Isrealites were to sacrifice the lamb, roast it and eat it along with the unleavened bread. Read Exodus 12. St Paul says Christ is our Pascal Sacrifice so let us keep the feast. It's all in the Bible.

    • @KingJamesBible
      @KingJamesBible 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      peter mabolgi Luke 22:19 And he took bread, and gave thanks, *and brake it*, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.
      When Paul was describing *HOW TO* handle the Lord's supper his emphasized this *BREAKING*
      1 Corinthians 11:24 And when he had given thanks, *he brake it*, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which *is broken for you:* this do in remembrance of me.
      There is just *NO WAY* to justify a *round*, (unbroken) white wafer.
      If the bread is *NOT* "broken", the symbolism is *broken* (pun intended)

    • @mZaoa
      @mZaoa 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ever been to a Mass? The bread does indeed get broken

    • @KingJamesBible
      @KingJamesBible 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Matt Zammit Many times. The priests *ONLY* cracks (in half) his round wafer.
      Everyone else gets a round one out of the cup
      Jesus Christ broke the bread in *many* pieces and passed it (the pieces) around.

      If Catholicism (the largest of all the Christian denominations by more than half) is a Satanic Cult or a religion unworthy of allegiance in God's sight, then Christianity is a failure and God's grace is ineffective. Something should consider.
