  • I finally get back onto the rather complex engineering exercise of fitting a combination of 991 GT3 & 997 GT3 carbon ceramic brakes to my 964 Turbo Porsche 911. Martin has done an awesome job of machining the brackets from billet aluminium, and there are just a few more little engineering issues to overcome which you'll see in this video.

    Never really been a fan of Porsche and there “design team” BUT I have been growing into them, for me though that’s the daddy, the old wide bodied widow makers were just perfection, especially with the Japanese touch. Would love to own one one day

    Another great OCD attention to detail video! Brakes look awesome and yellow suits the whole car!     Work of art those carrier brackets. Would keep an eye on torque of bolts due to thermal differences between alloy and steel bolts 👍🏻😎

    Superb job!! removing unsprung is massively important, though not noticed by all it does show in pro driver lap times. Give us a review on the different feel compared to the steel setup please.

    This video was excellent. I love cars but don't know a lot about the engineering, but this was really informative. I think now I'll try and fit Ferrari brakes to my BMW. Sounds dead easy! :-)

    Id seriously recommend a hydraulic flare tool for brake pipes, Jay would love you for it and the results are much easier and much more consistent if you guys are use it its well worth it.

      Also, can you show us what the old gold Porsche calliper would look like? So we've got a good comparison. But in my honest opinion, those yellow calipers look fucking mad I wouldn't even change them for red ones

    That brake disk is just stunning.
    For a mere 2 million (less than an F40) you can get a printer that prints several types of metal including aluminum and I believe titanium. Fascinating how they work, but for myself I'll be waiting until they get into the thousand dollar range. 🙂

      Not yet, I have access to some, but they are a lot of money so I wanted finish the fronts first.

    The metal working skills that you guys possess is awesome. Well done..question aluminum brackets for the calipers are strong enough? Would like to have bigger calipers and rotors on my e36 m3 evo. And 6 weeks on the hoist. Did you leave the battery on charge? Well done Phil

      We use aluminium for all brackets. The BBI uprights themselves are aluminium. It's 7075 grade.

    It is weird I turned up the PC speakers and sat close to the sub to feel as close to as being in the car with Phil on the pommy roads in the RWB goodness?
    Either way, don't care cause over engineered as OCD as me RWB is the goodness I needed on a crappy work week.

    To much tire stretch can cause handling issues, just so you know Phil 265 on 10's, 315 on 12's are the reasonable choice(maximums😉). Feel free to give me advise on giving you advise. Your(our) 964 is ace 🤔😏

      It seems fine so far, but I'd like a size up again eventually. I like a little stretch on a track car generally.

    I'm left with a dumb smile on my face after every video. Awesome work! I do have a question though: I saw you have a radio in your Porsche, and it looks fairly modern for the car. Have you given a thought of getting the PCCM from Porsche? (It is quite pricey, so I would understand it not being on your list of to-do's)

    Looks awesome mate- I’m the same fitting Lamborghini brembo Ceramic calipers to my E46 M3 with custom mounted 390x36mm Audi RS6 discs - plus custom pads and mounting brackets- oh and the 2mm wheel clearance and static wheel balance as the wheel weights have to be moved to clear 🤣🤣- but fuck they look immense

    They look the part and I'm sure they have more than enough performance for a lightweight car like that.
    Are you going to change the rear brakes to carbon ceramic too? The higher friction coefficient at the front will move the brake bias further towards the front, unless you change the master cylinder to adjust the pressure towards the rear more. Just a thought, I'm sure you don't want another brake headache just yet lol

      That's the plan, although the PCCB are a lot more balanced than what was on there before. The bite & ratio on the old calipers was way out of balance.

    Are those RWB fenders? They don't look like your typical horrible RWB hatchet, rivet and glue job! These fenders look great!

      Yes, it's one of the earliest cars built in Japan. It's called a smoothfender.

    I honestly had no idea that carbon ceramics didn't create any dust! Guess I'll start looking at carbon ceramic brake conversions for my S15... 🤔😂

    Possibly a little late now, but would it not have been easier to buy low head cap head bolts rather than machine standard ones down? Nevertheless, great episode and looks incredible :)
