    Used to work as an engineer at Shell. A few months back I began to feel guilt and had trouble sleeping. And I’ve definitely lost friendships over the years. Glad I no longer work there. I’m with Northrop Grumman now and I couldn’t be happier!

      I use to be a driller on an oil rig but I got a call in the 80s to become an astronaut to drill into a asteroid and nuke it to stop it from wiping out all life on Earth. Because it's easier to train drillers to be astronauts than to teach astronauts how to drill

      Ironically 20 years of delay means that we now have about 10 years to phase out fossil fuel.
      The "carbon budget" does not change because the oil industry successfully delayed both electric cars and carbon taxes by 20 years.
      20 years ago we had until 2050 to phase out fossil fuel. Now, after 20 years of inaction, we have only until 2030 to phase out fossil fuel.

    With the Boeing one, I'm reminded of something a Russian Tzar did, quite a few centuries ago. He was tired of the cannons on his ships blowing up when fired, and so he required that prior to a cannon being bought and accepted by the government, it must be test fired while the cannon maker is sitting on it. They lost a few prominent cannon makers that way, but quality went up substantially.

    Just wait till people find out that the little recycling symbol on the bottom of your plastic stuff means basically nothing. It was thought up decades ago by companies to seem like plastic was indeed a good thing and that everyone should use it just to sell more.
    The little number next to it basically details the class of plastic it is, the number also determines if it is indeed recyclable. Only a couple numbers of the 9 or however many there are now are actually recyclable.

    • @tiagobelo4965
      @tiagobelo4965 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      Well, that's bloody stupid ain't it?

      somewhat similiar story with Non-GMO buttefly.
      The species of butterfly on it is monarch butterfly, a species of butterfly that has had it's DNA modified by viruses without human intervention (not that rare in nature. read on Snake DNA in cows and where that comes from)
      The originall logo was actually used by companies to indicate their product as having GMO, and was ment to to be positive symbol to consumers, something to be proud off (it's not all evil folks, or at all, don't confuse technology itself with companies using it), and the companies selling their products on a premium on basis of gmo fearmongering didn't like it. Can't have positive messaging around their BoogeyMan
      So they took the logo, slightly artistically modified, and made it into non-gmo symbol. Lots of marketing and it's the only one left.

    • @jamesphillips2285
      @jamesphillips2285 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No the number is the type of plastic.
      But NOBODY sorts plastic waste by looking for that tiny number.
      Generally the way plastic is recycled is either:
      1. It is part of an industrial process and they put the trimmings back in the mix.
      2. It is sorted and landfilled.
      Until fossil fuels are banned: getting virgin material tends to be cheaper than recycling.

    It's a good point that people do bring up DEI as a reason why a company is faltering, but what if that's a symptom rather than the cause. Once McDonnell Douglas and Boeing merged it was the beginning of the end. Moving Boeing's HQ from Renton to Chicago was GGs. I live on the West Coast in a tourist town and I often speak to Boeing engineers and employees at my job, and they all pretty much say that the takeover brought in McD's corporate ethos with them. Don't forget - McDonnell Douglas failed because they sought to maximize profits over safety, which led to a HUGE number of crashes in the 70s and 80s after deregulation, which obviously led to customers not trusting them.

There was also recent lawsuits about the decaying battery waste polluting the fields which the cars were parked in. I believe the public outcry about it was enough to draw action in cleaning the battery waste and removing the cars.

    The Starbucks thing is crazy cause you just use whatever is left on your card and then pay whatever is left over with your debit card or whatever lol. You don't have to pay an entire order with just the Starbucks account. I hate that it only lets you add $10 at a time but people are just stupid as fuck falling for the manipulation

    Fascinating video, Atrioc! The way you've delved into the intersection of big oil and the gaming industry is both eye-opening and thought-provoking. It's alarming to see how pervasive corporate interests, like those of the oil industry, can be in shaping entertainment and media narratives. Your analysis of the subtle (and sometimes not so subtle) ways in which these corporations influence gaming content, marketing strategies, and gamer culture really highlights a lesser-discussed aspect of corporate impact on modern media. It’s a crucial conversation to have, considering the younger demographics involved and the long-term implications on environmental consciousness. Looking forward to more content like this that challenges us to think critically about the media we consume daily. Keep up the great work! 👍 #AwarenessInGaming #MediaInfluence

    Atrioc / anyone else, as a light fan of Antitrust policy (I read Curse of Bigness and The Antitrust Paradox) what are your thoughts on the vertical integration of BYD? Stuff like Robinson Patman act definitely blocks that in US to some extent but the results in China are interesting.

    • @atrioc
      @atrioc  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      oh im against it for sure - should lead to higher prices / worse outcomes for consumers in the long run, but in this race to get market share its leading to insanely low/subsidized EV costs.

    • @f.sbikerace3921
      @f.sbikerace3921 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I tend to agree it almost certainly hurts overall efficiency (Bork would disagree with us). In my opinion it definitely hurts any other EV companies in China but benefits BYD a ton. From a consumer maximization standpoint though it’s a interesting conversation. Thanks for responding!

    Nearly done with a degree in aerospace engineering, Boeing is cooked. nobody around me says "I want to work for Boeing" it's ALWAYS "yeah the max 8 is so dogshit" "did you see they missed orbit?" etc etc. I think most of the other people around me rather make missiles than work on the next 737. Not to mention a lot of these planes are so far behind cockpit wise it's actually scary. They still have the internals that they had when flight engineers were a thing, but it's been adapted to work with modern systems, which is always worse than just making one homogeneous system.
