A round of golf at Holywell golf course in North Wales. It's a par 69 course that was 5813 yards from the men's yellow tees.
I'm James, a golfer with a dodgy swing now playing off a 15.0 handicap.

Anyone whom has ever played this silly ol game, has had a day like this. I once hit 12 cart paths in one round and no fairways ....You just laugh it off and continue coming back for more. As always a pleasure to watch James.

We all have bad days, had a 3 week break and first round back was like a beginner had taken over my head. 2 rounds later and the old me has returned. Lots of pars and decent drives!
I know what you mean. I had 4 months off at the start of 2023 and when I came back my iron play was all over the shop! :)

I really enjoyed this video. You never seem to get angry! The course is spoilt a bit by the roads but clearly challenging.
Us golfers are gluttons for punishment. As they say,sh.. happens but we always come back for more. Well done for posting James.

Enjoyed watching you struggle round. We've all been there and no doubt will be there again. Have you tried the Q Star balls? A lot more control around the green but still reasonably priced.

You have to be the calmest golfer I've seen in my life...well there was one other but he was too high to really care.
A bad round of golf is better than a good day at work. Makes you appreciate the good rounds even more!
I applaud your honesty James and the calm way you handle the bad stuff. I'll hopefully be playing some of the North Wales courses you've been on this year. My son lives near Conwy, and he's taking up golf again. The scenery looks beautiful. Like your channel a lot!

Oh boy we all have had days like this, I always say there is always a shot or putt that keeps you going. Well done in keeping your sanity when it's easy to lose it completely 👍.

I feel your pain James, if you ask your fans most of us we have had rounds like this. Fair play for posting the video when you could have scrapped it. You know you can play better, just put it down to one of those things and come back stronger next time!!

We've all had days like this. To be fair I don't think you played that bad but every bad shot you hit got you in trouble. Another day you can play worse than that and score better. Keep up the great videos! I've got no golf for 3/4 months after dislocating my shoulder so need some of your content to get me through :)

Hi James really been enjoying the content, I'm really interested in your grip, is it interlocking or baseball grip , you hit so straight on most occasions
I use the Vardon grip (overlapping). When I had my first golf lessons I had to change my grip completely to a 'strong' grip and it helped my game so much! THanks for watching :)

Good to know it's not just me. Last week I scored a 9 on a par 3. Two drives into the water, followed by a shot that landed just off the green, 60 feet away. From there it was an easy 4-putt.
I did a 4-putt when I played Royal St David's smh :)
It is such fine margins between a good round and the bad one. Some days you win some days you lose as we know that’s golf. It’s a frustrating game
I always enjoy your videos James. How do you get so much distance off a fairly short backswing? I struggle to get a driver more than 180 yards, you must get tremendous speed at impact.
135 mph ball speed I top out at normally with the driver.
The course looked in quite good condition but in the winter months if you go in the rough it can be unpleasant. One of those courses where a lot can go wrong unless you hit the ball dead straight off the tee. You seem to hit your hybrid so much better than the 3 wood so I would say you might have been robbed there. Keep smiling and wait for those happy days. Roll on the spring and summer. 🙂
Sometimes to take a positive from a bad score on a hole as I also throw in 8 and 9’s to ruin cards, if I come off with a 6 but have had one really bad shot I’ll say my target of bogey golf (18 H’cap V 27
Currently) is there if I can eradicate the poor shot.
You can see many areas where your game has come on from a year ago esp driving. Is there a reason you pitch short approaches rather than a chip?
I think we call all relate to that round. Perhaps more often than we care to admit to! Also, that course looks a little more tricky than some of the others I see you on? To me it just seemed to be a course management issue. I don't think I've seen you "go" for as many risky shots instead of making the percentage play! Enjoyed it none the less!

Yeah, everyone has them and you try to forget about them as fast as humanly possible. The only problem is mine are sometimes viewed by 1000s of TH-cam golf fans! :)

I am going through a bad patch, it does ones head in, trouble is holding it together for 18holes is a head spin, only hit one fairway yesterday for 27pts. Crazy how Golf bites you in the arse!!!

The joys of the inconsistent golfer. 97 including a birdie. I once managed to hole a 6 footer on the last to break 100, and had 6 3s on the card... A funny old game as you say!
When things go bad they can go really bad for mid to high handicap golfers! :)
there was a film,the good the bad and the ugly, we all have them.Look at Tiger on the 12th at augusta 10 0na par 3.
I've never carded a 10 on a par 3, I have on some par 4s and 5s though :)
Get your old putter back. Ditch that 3 wood. The irons were going further. Little practice and you'll be back to normal. Very nice day and golf course. I wish I was playing.
Could you have dropped where ball went out of bounds on hole 5 instead of dropping from where you hit shot originally?
For out of bounds you can play the original again from the same spot for a 1 shot penalty. If you move forward to the OB area then it's a 2 shot penalty. A rule many people break unknowingly!
Tried to hard on 5th to gain yards. Come out at 90 degrees from target and save 4-5 shots.

It’s pretty apparent that 15 is not your handicap. You are more like 22-26 range handicap.
Handicap is a calculation…not an opinion. Unless you know better ?

take an unplayable penalty is sometimes the better option and if you were playing stableford just pick up once you get a blob score.

Sheep didn’t look impressed😂😂, never mind we’ve all done it, and will still come back the next day for more punishment.
You probably noticed it but, on several of those shots you hit right, it looks like you are aiming that way.
I play a slight draw. Sometimes I overcompensate :)

How can you have an ‘inland links’ course?
This course is in a limestone area. Meaning the turf drains very well and is playable all year round. It says inland links on the website and also in many reviews. Thanks for watching
@@notaperfectgolfer3489 You are 800 feet above sea level. A links course is in the land between the sea and the countryside so, by definition, you cannot be a links if you above sea level.

Dont feel bad,my Freshmen year in high school,we went to a restaurant after a round and we had our bags with us,and a guy asked me what I shot,I said 95,he said that's pretty good,when I told him it was for 9 holes,he just quietly walked away,nothing else needed to be said.lol

Need to use the rules of golf to your advantage. That lost ball and subsequent drop could have used the rules to get a better angle. Sometimes it sucks losing a ball but don’t double hinder yourself. Use the rules ! Love the content though.

What’s your handicap
It was 11.6 but has drifted out to 15 due to taking a break and playing a lot without practicing much. Still love it though!
Actually, you hit a lot of good shots - just a few decisions that were...learning experiences.

It's funny I was hitting it 190-200 yards off the deck at the range. Definitely 'user error!' :)
@@notaperfectgolfer3489 in 32 years of playing I've discovered one absolute, what works at the range doesn't work at the course and what works at the course doesn't work at the range 😁 it's a very strange phenomenon!

I played a provisional ball (with 2 shots) as I assumed the 1st was lost. When I found it the provisional ball was not in play and I played the 2nd shot from the bad lie on the right. TBH I wish I had lost the first lol :)
