None of me or my friends really like MMOs, but we might end up backing Nightmare World once you have a good proof of concept. It's coming along very well, and we can't wait to see where it goes! Even it's very concept is better than Dream World!
Continued criticism of Dreamworld isn't "unfair", it's a reasonable response to seeing bad things continuing to happen. That's like people complaining to the police like "why do you continue to send out amber alerts? Didn't a little girl get abducted just last week? This is all getting a bit much, y'know." And just as I write this I remember that this isn't even a hyperbolic example... "Winnipeg police say an Amber Alert sent this week over a suspected child abduction led to many good tips from Manitobans looking to help, but it also brought out to more than few calls - to 911 - from people complaining about getting the alert."
Honestly I'm half tempted to apply to develop this and straight up poof it, add a readme that says "Make this. You've got money, hire someone. Don't buy random stuff to fill gaps, get someone to fill those gaps right"
On one hand Dreamworld is bad and it has suckered a lot of money out of a lot of people but on the other hand, as someone who struggles with self confidence, it does feel good to point out that I've built more of a game in the TIC-80 fantasy computer in 3 days than these guys did in like over a month, and I don't even have most of my basic gameplay elements in yet because I've been working on things like scene management, vector maths etc.
Callum’s videos are singlehandedly holding the entire Dreamworld dev “team” accountable. Without all this negative press they could have fulfilled the bare minimum Kickstarted requirements and slipped into the shadows. Which they’ll still probably do, but at least there’s some heat on them now.
Like the mesh creation and sculpting. One suggestion for an addition. Ramp, rough, and flatten a.k.a. Gameguru. Other than that your sculpting looks great!!! Can't wait to try Nightmare World when it's in to beta.

the great part about DREAMWORLD is the fact that they make it look so difficult to operate, update, and run an MMO with things to do for the players to do like anyone else could do a better job. i think i understand now why there were so many MMO's when WoW was relatively new.
First time i have seen this nightmare of a "dreamworld", i was thinking: It looks so SHIT without the shadows, WHY throw money at this...beside all the other issues...
Good thing people like you are here to expose others like this. guarantee they would have just taken the money and ran a long time ago if they hadn't gotten this level of attention.
"Somehow" Well, it took you about 12 minutes to sculpt a relatively basic landscape. DW probably spent 30 minutes generating some perlin noise and called it a day. They don't have the patience to hand craft anything and they are fine if the result looks like crap.
I am 100% convinced they are updating the Dreamworld Game with shitty assets and whatever the fuck they can grab so that they have something to present in court and give whatever justification for running off with the money. None of me or my friends really like MMOs, but we might end up backing Nightmare World once you have a good proof of concept. It's coming along very well, and we can't wait to see where it goes! Even it's very concept is better than Dream World!
They could not even bother to just use a Google form for messages?
Continued criticism of Dreamworld isn't "unfair", it's a reasonable response to seeing bad things continuing to happen. That's like people complaining to the police like "why do you continue to send out amber alerts? Didn't a little girl get abducted just last week? This is all getting a bit much, y'know." And just as I write this I remember that this isn't even a hyperbolic example... "Winnipeg police say an Amber Alert sent this week over a suspected child abduction led to many good tips from Manitobans looking to help, but it also brought out to more than few calls - to 911 - from people complaining about getting the alert."
'8 hour workdays' more like 8 minute workdays...
Honestly I'm half tempted to apply to develop this and straight up poof it, add a readme that says "Make this. You've got money, hire someone. Don't buy random stuff to fill gaps, get someone to fill those gaps right"
On one hand Dreamworld is bad and it has suckered a lot of money out of a lot of people
but on the other hand, as someone who struggles with self confidence, it does feel good to point out that I've built more of a game in the TIC-80 fantasy computer in 3 days than these guys did in like over a month, and I don't even have most of my basic gameplay elements in yet because I've been working on things like scene management, vector maths etc.
It's insane how he probably spent less on all his assets together than a single backer did to get all the pets.
Ah another "Please Don't Sue Us We're Working On It, No Really!" update.
I was thinking "wow these graphics look pretty good dreamworld have outdone themselves" then I realized it was nightmare world footage lol.
Nightmare world looking like dollar store student project.
Gameguru. That game maker is a buggy mess, but their landscaping too is like yours, but with ramp, rough you can do jagged mountains and cliffs. Smoothing is good too. Other than that your sculpting looks great!!! Can't wait to try Nightmare World when it's in to beta.
how are they not in court yet?
dayum, Y Combinator 2nd round of funding must be coming up soon.
If they would have just been honest from the start, they would have had absolutely no trouble. If they would have done work themselves, people would compliment them and promote them.. instead they lied and continue to lie about everything. It's pathetic
Dreamworld tried to take shortcuts. There are no shortcuts.
@@germanslice it's not even a matter of shortcuts, it's just a flat out scam at this point. They had the potential to make something great with the funds they had, they got greedy and they're gonna take off and run with the money. It's just so sad the people get screwed because of greed.
@@thermalfrost7459 People are not happy with the results. It doesn't look like much work was done in Dreamworld.
Oh boy, another week of... something is here
i feel like they are "racing" to meet the requirements of the kickstarter so as to not get taken to court, then they are going to vanish
Please keep exposing this horrible game. It makes me angry they decided to scam people. "Every game every genre'? Heck, it isn't even one.
No not even my game has got every game genre. I might have about 3-4 at the most. But not all 50 as Dreamworld is claming to have.
Assetworld would be a better name for that catastrophe of a “game.”
If you think, it makes sense. Pokemon was made by guys who loved bug collecting, and became the most profitable franchise in the world.
Dreamworld is made by guys who have no original ideas, and will be the most profitable franchise (for YT creators who meme on it) in the world.
the great part about DREAMWORLD is the fact that they make it look so difficult to operate, update, and run an MMO with things to do for the players to do like anyone else could do a better job. i think i understand now why there were so many MMO's when WoW was relatively new.
they went to kickstarter so they had something to show Y combinator IMO
"hey look we got a real project with a successful kickstarter. gimme money"
ironically for a tiny bit of extra money they brought their con into the public eye...
To be fair, they are following the PUPG paradigm...
I only have one thing to say, as always ---> 🤦♂️
The more I see this, the more i'm convinced that NightmareWorld will success.
I wish I had no moral compass... Just think how easy having a job there is...
I would like to compose an intro/jingle music for you channel.
I like the style of the terrain editor reminds me of project spark. Which I assume was using a similar or the same system. ☺️👍
Its a plugin called Voxel Plugin, not original content
we're actually using the same tool as Dreamworld did. they somehow made it look like absolute shit though lmao
"Somehow"
Well, it took you about 12 minutes to sculpt a relatively basic landscape.
Keep this up, Callum! I'll be playing NightmareWorld when it does come out as a giant fuck you to the idiots who promise these kinds of projects and scam their backers in the end.
Thank you for taking your time to show us about such a piss take of a "development" studio who are exploiting many vulnerable people and giving game dev a bad name. I think more needs to be done to promote people actually willing to get of their arse and try to create something but your videos on this topic are good as you clearly state what is right from wrong without holding back.
Also your game that you are creating looks great :)
"...but it still is way better then DreamWorld so good job!" - Someone Rating My First Game In Your Game Jam.
Me - "Being better than DreamWorld is like being able to "Jump" over a pebble in a high jump compition."
Dont apologize, screw scammers.
When you were saying "30 minutes" on that first patch entry I found myself wondering if you were talking about the time it took them to make that edit or the time you take pausing between every other word.
>they checked the box
Dreamworld literally looks like a project a bunch of 13 year old children threw together.
Even their communication looks as if a child if behind the screen and putting all them emojis behind each patch note.
Lost for words, how is this still continuing
Nice video phallum upton
