Honestly the only real thing I hate about most of the updated Yakko's world versions is most of them jump from continet to continet randomly when the original tried to stay in 1 continet at a time however I still like most updated versions specifically this one (because I like how none of them try to recreate Yakko's voice in it making it better and more natural sounding) this gets a 8.5/10 for me.
I think the main problem is that it is insanely difficult to fit all 195 countries in *and* have it rhyme. Its probably impossible to do that in continent order.

The original jumped quite a few times back and forth when it got to Asia. (It jumped back and forth around Europe, Asia, Oceania, and Africa.) Especially at the very end:

This is the closest thing to a perfect modern parody of Yakko’s World I’ve seen, absolutely amazing. There are a few inaccuracies as Deuterium mentioned somewhere in this comment section, and I’m just cheesed that Saint Vincent and the Grenadines is cheated in 😂 Because there were a few moments using the short form could be possible (CAR) and I’ve seen multiple versions that just say “Both Koreas” instead of naming them separately.
I’m trying to find a way to integrate Deuterium’s version with this one because they’re the most updated and are the closest to being in-tune and rhymes the most.

HOW overweight the citizens were. so who knows, maybe nauru just has moderately obese people and the US has more severely obese people. Why Nauru is an Independent Country
With virtually no capacity to grow food, no natural resources to exploit, an extremely remote location, and barren environment unsuited for tourism, Nauru should have just about the least economic prospects of any place on Earth and by all means should not be viable as an independent country. And yet, Nauru survives as the world's 3rd smallest country by population, and its people enjoy average standards of living by global standards, with a GDP per capita of just over $11,000 prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. How on Earth did this happen?
By the time Europeans discovered Nauru in 1798, the island was unified into a tiny kingdom of a little over 1000 people. Its remote location-even by Pacific standards-and lack of known natural resources, made its colonization a very low priority for Europeans. In 1888, Germany seized the island, but it didn't become profitable until the discovery of large and pristine-quality phosphate reserves in 1900, which could then be used in the manufacture of military equipment. The UK seized the island (and associated phosphate industry) during World War One, and after the war, it was turned into a League of Nations mandate. Not wanting to deal with a colony which was essentially worthless during peacetime, the UK thrust administration of the island upon Australia.
Japan saw the island as a potential base from which the Allies could conduct aerial raids against their own forces. To prevent this, they seized the Island in World War Two, and enslaved nearly the entire population to work in phosphate mines and on the construction of a Japanese military base. The Allies, in turn, would heavily bomb Nauru to disrupt Japanese operations from the islands, who quickly became unable to resupply the isolated island, but nonetheless maintained control until the end of the war. This would devastate the island, with over half of all native inhabitants being killed.
In 1947, Nauru was reconstituted as a UN trust territory, but in effect operated as a small colony co-ruled by Australia and New Zealand. Continued poor conditions for native workers, along with massive environmental damage and the memory of exploitation and destruction during WW2, led to calls for true independence, with governance and control of the phosphate mining industry handed to the Nauruan people themselves. While Australia was hesitant, pressure from the UN to grant the Nauruans' request led to them quickly relenting, granting the island independence in 1968, and selling control of the phosphate mines.
Nauru was initially successful after independence, but with agricultural prospects effectively destroyed by catastrophic environmental practices under colonial rule, and the phosphate reserves slowly running out, doom was all but inevitable in the long run. That doom would come in the 1990s, with the total collapse of Nauru's economy over the course of more than a decade of recession, that reduced the country's GDP per capita from over $5000 in 1989 to under $2000 in 2002. Unemployment soared to over 90%.
Nauru now depends on aid from foreign governments for survival, using its status as a technically independent state to profit from deals with foreign powers, which would otherwise be difficult or impossible to achieve. This mainly takes the form of selling fishing rights to foreign corporations, but also includes aiding money laundering efforts by drug cartels, assisting the CIA in espionage against North Korea, and hosting a high-security internment camp for refugees seeking to enter Australia. As a result of these initiatives, today most of Nauru's workforce are employed in banking, diplomatic services, and internment camp operation. These efforts have proven successful in alleviating the economic catastrophe, with GDP per capita exceeding $11,000 by 2018, and the unemployment rate falling to "just" 26%. However, these efforts have also sacrificed much of Nauru's sovereignty, and the island continues to operate, in many ways, as a pseudo-colonial holding of Australia, New Zealand, and the United States.

I learned "The 50 States that Rhyme" song as a kid and have found it useful to have saved in my memory since. I've started trying to learn the presidents a few times over the years, but I am yet to get them all down before giving up. Would be cool to get all the countries down 😊

Just a few bits of constructive criticism from a fellow Yakko's World reimaginer:
- You referred to The Bahamas without using the definite article - The Bahamas is like The Gambia, it requires the definite article.
- Taiwan's status as a "nation" is a bit up in the air. If you included Taiwan, why not Kosovo or the Sarahwi Republic for instance? (Pot calling the kettle black slightly, but still.)
- If you were going to stretch out the pronunciation of "cape" to 2 beats, it might have been better to just refer to it as "Cabo Verde"
When the song next needs updating, maybe we can collab ^^ Out of interest, what did you use as your criteria for what counts as a "nation" for the purposes of your version?
It's probably because Taiwan used to be a UN state, makes sense to me.

1. I did not include the 'the' for the Bahamas or the Gambia because, for one, they were also left out in the original, and secondly, it made the song flow better. In a perfect world I would include them along with the full names of the three countries I abbreviated (UK, UAE, DRC).
2. I should have included Kosovo, and I will if I ever do another update. I would consider the Sarahwi Republic as well, but this would be another mouthful difficult to fit in somewhere.
3. Cabo Verde is better, yeah.
I made this on a whim one week and it blew up, I'd like to refine it and make sure there are as few errors as possible; I've been working on a better version here and there based on the responses I've been getting so far. The main things are to possibly keep the countries better grouped by continent and to figure out a precise cutoff for which nations should be included. We could definitely collab if you've also got ideas.
@@geographypedant1966 In my own version I went for a balance of recognition, realism and neutrality, so I used UN member-states and non-member observer states as my definition of "nation" - maybe yours could be a bit broader?

Hey! I noticed you forgot Kosovo, so I came by to offer you a solution. What you could've done is abbreviated "Central African Republic" to "CAR", which would have allowed you to do something like this:

These are territories of New Zealand. And by your logic Greenland and Puerto Rico should be included even if they are territories of other countries, right?
@@HeroManNick132 Wrong. Puerto Rico is not a country. It is an unincorporated territory of US. Greenland is not a country. It is a self-governing autonomous territory of Denmark.
Tokelau is not a country. It is just a territory of New Zealand.
But, unlike Puerto Rico, Greenland or Tokelau, Niue and the Cook Islands are self-governing island countries. They have their own elected Prime Ministers and each has its own representative to Queen Elizabeth. They are in free association with New Zealand (with things like defence and foreign affairs, but AFTER consultation)
