- Does any holiday have more memorable iconography than Christmas? Decorated fir trees. Stockings hung on the mantel. Santa’s famous mask.
What’s that? Oh, did Santa not wear a mask apparently made out of dried skin where you were from? It must be a Soda vs Pop thing! Because where we are from, Santa definitely wore a mask made out of dried human skin and in December we would watch A Christmas Fantasy every night until the social workers came and moved us into a safer situation.
Enjoy A Christmas Fantasy, even if you were one of those weirdos whose Santa didn’t wear an awful, awful mask.

'Ice Cream Bunny' Santa was just a barely- conscious wino in a Santa suit he stole from a different wino. Largely harmless.

Despite there being a credit for color photography, this short is entirely in black & white! The original short does exist in color, although all that does is make the Santa even MORE terrifying.
Leo Caloria clearly did an awful job with the color.
Sheesh, at least the boys at Rifftrax spared us from that!

It’s so much more awesome that the director treated Santa like the xenomorph in Alien: you see just enough of him to know it’s something scary, but not half a second more.
So this short is just about two kids sleeping as a Santa from some slasher movie shows up and surprisingly do not skin them and make another mask from them.
It’s a Christmas miracle!
You know, I've watched *a lot* of MST3K and Rifftrax over the last 25 years, from Manos to The Room. But *THIS* is really something that's going to be burned into my memories for a long time.

The Leatherface Santa was creepy, but the real horror was that the singing almost made me think "The Jesters" had returned...and I can't endure MORE ENDLESS SINGING ABOUT PORK!

So oddly enough, I remember watching this as a kid... Did a little digging and realized it was an extra short on some collections of an animated version of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and Friends on some 80s VHS tape.
Strangely enough, I did not remember the terrifying Santa's face! Probably a good thing I blocked that out

Side note, I don't know where the trope of children suddenly falling asleep in weird places came from, but I could never conk out like that at any age.

Skin Santa there looks long enough to be wearing the whole upper half of a man like a mantle, he's extremely displeasing and it gives his concession stand theme a deeply threatening aura. 11/10 short will spiral into darkness with it again

I just think growing up while TB and Polio where putting in so much work, that death Santa, looks kind of inviting, like he may not kill you and could even give you a peasant worth more than a shiny red penny! Unlike the iron lung disease that keeps taking kids out of school.
I have to wonder why this film was produced. The plot points are:
- it's winter
- here's a crappy ice skating / windmill thing
- kids can sleep anywhere
- Santa is terrifying

Everyone is complaining about Santa, but I suspect the old timey folks they made this for would have been okay with his hideous appearance. Remember there was a stretch of human history where clowns were considered fun and whimsical. I have vivid memories of children's rooms and even nurseries being decorated with a clown theme as well as nightmare inducing clown dolls being given as gifts. This was not considered child abuse, amazingly enough.
You are right. My husband was born in the 50s and his childhood Christmas elf ornaments look like demons. And I freaking screamed when he showed me his "bunny doll" that had a creepy human face sewed onto the bunny's body. Holy moly people had a twisted concept of cute in the 50s.
@@ElizabethBattle I had that doll! Repressed memories surfacing. I had somehow completely forgotten about that awful thing. (It was baby blue and I will see it in my dreams tonight.)
@@pal5683 Sorry for the nightmare fuel! Haha. I guess my husband's was baby blue at one time, but it was so old that it was a dirty haggard grey brown that made it look even more sinister.
I sadly suspect that the problem may be at least partly ours, not theirs. Decades of horror movies turning innocent things evil may have warped our perceptions.
@@Daviticus042 Perceptions change over time for most things. Cats for example, have been alternately feared, worshipped, seen as pests, useful farm animals and as beloved household pets.

The visuals in this short are horrifying, but I actually love the music box tune from 1:53-2:55. I'm kind of glad that they didn't call that creepy.
