BASS AT SUNRISE | BIG WRASSE | CHANGING TACTICS | LURE FISHING FOR BASS & WRASSE

- On this cold January morning, i was out early to do some lure fishing for bass. The morning started brilliantly. Within two casts, using the IMA Hound Glide, I was into a nice chunky bass. As the sun started to appear, another bass fell prey to one of my new favourite lures, what a start to the day!
Onto the next mark.. After roughly 30 minutes of fishing i started to get the feeling that this spot wouldn’t produce much.
As i wondered around the large reef i was fishing, i came across a big gully with lots of tide flowing through it.. A great place to try for a wrasse. On went the 10g Sidewinder Slim Skerrie and on the first drop, i was into a fish. I continued searching out the gully, flicking the lure out and bouncing it close to the bottom. As my hope of another fish was fading, BANG! Another wrasse had inhaled the lure. This time it was a much bigger fish.
This was only a short session, however, it was so much fun. With clear crisp skies and a bright sun, it really was the best start to a winters day 🎣

Beautiful colouring on that cracking Ballan, great video ! I came across your channel watching the Smash fishing channel, you got an honest and enjoyable content, keep up the great work ! Ah you just mentioned people should comment on content ideas.. I watch tons of global sea fishing channels especially UK and I miss content on my personal preferences, night fishing a storm beach with a big swell with big baits n scratching, I’ve seen the biggest specimens come out in such conditions.. double figure bass, plaice and flounder size of bin lids.. end of ramble - peace out ✌🏻
Thanks for the feedback. Plaice are hard to come by over here, and i can't remember the last time a flounder was caught in Guernsey 😂 I do plan on targeting different species this year so hopefully it will provide a good variety. Wow Cal. Great sesh there. I could do with “The Cal Touch” . 14 sessions no bass. Think I need to move island mate :) roughly 27 miles north will do it. Those Mick Jagger wrasse when they wear that green tinge lipstick are always welcome right. Belter buddy.
The bass looked about the same length (ish) what a huge difference between the both. Good to be able to see a comparison like that. One pregnant whose eaten all the pies and one who isn’t and hasn’t. Great video as usual. Gives me the incentive to keep going mate. Merci.

@@FISHINGWITHCAL you have special powers Cal. It did at last picture up. An hour plus ago I was finishing my very last session, stopped to try a usual spot for 20 min on way home from new ground 2hr sesh, and hello baby a 54cm beauty christening my new efffzett intense spin 7-28g
Persistence was maxed out and bait fishing only for next min of 6 weeks just got cancelled. Never recorded a catch yet. Had GoPro chest mount on, hooked up, pressed record and got 8 secs before battery went. So still haven’t :) am a newbie with camera gear. Recorded the release at least.
Swallowed the white savage gear gravity stick, but recently I flattened all the barbs after watching your GSY bud Brendan’s lure video. Helped on this occasion. Fish went back undamaged. Cheers for the reply, and all the best mate.
Lure fishing for wrasse is my favourite kind of fishing.

We had so much good sport from the ballan wrasse on this years holiday, well, except the missus had to spoil it by catching by far the biggest, prettiest one!

Excellent video. The rewards of an early start! What was the water clarity like on that first mark? Was it a sandy beach, or just bit of sand as it was low tide?
Thanks. It's a sandy beach yeah, the water clarity at the moment is crystal clear.
Get some proper wrasse lures and cone weights in your bag chap
I have a quite a few wrasse lures but i never carry them with me. I will get some proper weights sorted though. Be good to target them properly. You've been nailing them at the moment eh
