Godwyn wasn't in on it with Ranni. Main reasons why: -Godwyn got assassinated, inside Leyndell, if he was in on Ranni's plot, he wouldn't have made it this hard for her to kill him -Godwyn was the only realistic option to kill: Ranni wouldn't kill either of her brothers, Marika was way too strong, Miquella was protected by Malenia and Malenia would do quick work of the Black Knives if they tried to kill her, Mohg and Morgot's existence was hidden, Godfrey was in exile and perhaps already dead. Godwyn, who was loved and had no enemy at that point, was just the best option. -The god the Nox tried to bring about far predates the death of Godwyn, as they were destroyed by the Greater Will throwing Astel at them, and we know the Greater Will stopped caring about the Lands Between long before the Shattering.
Considering death and the realm of death is represented in the mythos of elden ring by the dark moon, the night, and the void, godwyn being the noxs attempt at a lord of night and he becomes the prince of death, is intriguing.
I'm sure his design was based on old maritime maps depicting alsorts of mythical creatures in the oceans. That design is exactly the same as one of the creatures on those old maps.

I see a lot of similarities in design/lore between Susanoo-o and Godwyn. Susanoo-o in japanese mythology was a god that governed the sea and storms, slayed yamata-no-orochi(monstrous multiheaded serpent) and linked with harvest and agriculture. Later down the line, some beliefs also associated Susanoo-o with pestilence and disease, as he is also affiliated with the Underworld, where he was born when Izanagi washed himself in the Underworld, giving birth to Susanoo, Amaterasu(sun goddess), and Tsukuyomi(moon goddess).
yes but you have to look at elden ring with less japan and more old english. because all this sounds like is you were really into that okami game and latched onto it. ive seen majority of from fans go "DURR JAPAN" when miyazaki himself has said how many cultures they took inspiration from. all im saying really is , this game is not rooted in japanese mythology and is more in line with real worl alchemy practices and mythology connected to that. you might have an easier time actually piecing lore together. dont let vatti and zullie convince you that them being weebs means the whole game is made in their image of mythology. ive seen so many people with such objectively head canon things , that i just have to speak up these days. yall ruined the fandom by wanting the whole game to be japanese lore with eruopean faces. like theres a whole culture based on irish travelers , theres a whole group based on middle eastern perfumers , theres a whole group of generic eruopean country side women , like theres so much more to this game than your favorite japanese myth and the devs deserve their work to be actually seen
as much as I might agree with some of your points, we still have to remember that it is a Japanese game company, and altho yes it is a westernized mythos, it does not mean that they won't have coinciding similarities in mythos(like you said, origins in mythos, alchemy, understanding of the world, etc). A lot of Miyazaki philosofy when he create his games are about Stagnation and Kegare, a shintoist philosofy about the corruption and impurity that comes from things like death, blood, vile acts. (Rykard and Aldritch looks so horrible for that, they are literally walking corruption) Especially after Bloodborne, Miyazaki connected Water to Cosmos, talking about it with connection to Water, Sea and Lake, and making Great Ones and Kin looking like fish or sea creatures. But also Death, as the little white creature that helps us during the game are called, using kanji, in a sort of pun about Echoes/souls. In Ds3 also, especially for Aldritch, he calls Sea and Deep Water a lot of times, and connect it to the Kegare, and so we have the Depths, Corruption of Stagnang Darkness at the bottom of the world, where all corruption fall and accumulate. Now, we have Elden Ring and again, Death is connected to Water. Loretta, the spell of Rennala, Ancestral Spirits, are creatures we fight on water, while we can find the Tibia Marine, who literally are Charon from Greek Mitology, and the giant boat-coffin in the Cerulean Coast. Now, Deathblight is not something natural, is a glitch in Marika's System. A body without a Soul, a Piece of Death pushed in the roots of the thing that decided Death is no more. So, if we have water=Death, a corruption of Death=Stagnant Water/Deep Sea, and here comes the fish that give the face for our fav Prince of Death. So, for what we know there is no connection with some unnamed God of Sea (Possible, but in Bloodborne there is no God of Cosmos, just The Cosmos)but just Miyazaki who likes to shows his philosofy throught these pieces of art and design. Yeah he really loved do Bloodborne, we get it.

What if???? Ranni saw that Godwyn had a solid plan and followed through with his plan to undermine the influence of the Two Fingers. The Tarnished has to progress both quest lines at least midway through to position either line to proceed. Perhaps Ranni used the Tarnished to finish her plan as a backup if Godwyn’s plan fails.
@ I think she pivoted towards snatching power for herself by having the Tarnished become her consort. Both plans spit in the face of the Two Fingers. The second one supplants her as the Goddess, replacing her father/mother and fulfilling the dream of her mother Rennala.

Ranni did help Miquella’s agents (the black knives gaurd the haligtree alongside the alburnic women) in carving into Godwyn…but Ranni deceived Miquella by only giving his agents half of the rune, and using the other half on herself. I always figured Marika was distressed from not having regular born children. all were born cursed or deformed in some way...... I think it destroyed her ability to want to be a god because what God can't fix all these problems...... she wanted to elden beast to be destroyed but somehow the power radagon gained power to continue trying to rule while the elden beast was in desperation of being quelled by all, just as Marika wanted. ranni wanted to escape whatever curse she was born with while surviving her mother's depression to end it all .... Marika came to the world with torment and it never ended ........ she never became the god she probably hoped to be. because the whole time she was being led it was all just a false story between select few people .......

Weren't the Black knifes on Bad terms with Ranni and also Miquella? Since they killed Iji and attacked Rannis tower and were killed by Blaidd, plus, the Black knifes in Ordina aren't really guarding the Haligtree, given 2 of them are hiding in Ordina and the 3rs one is dead outside the Seal.

I was thinking where to leave this interesting info and since u mentioned water... :) It seems like gold and/or silver when "dusted" into nano particles change color. It might have to be inside liquid or something i dont fully get it but gold depending on the size of its particles (nano range) changes its color from purple to red. So if Marika is gold makes sense that her children are Messmer (red) and Melina (purple - GEQ), later Miquella - purple and Melania red. Silver has the same property but it is a whole rainbow of color which also fits a lot with mimic tears and stuff. The examples i've seen on google are all inside of a liquid. Maybe we are all drowned or something... So to become gold u either cant be an empyrean from two gods as u become just purple/red. Or be an empyrean from two gods and later divest ur flesh and add corpses to become a nugget, or u just cant be born gold at all? :D idk.. This could lead to conclusion that Marika was the "red" child and her sister/brother the purple since the age of the crucible was red or some combination along those lines. Also looks like silver can look black, so godwyn might have been reburned with larval tear - all google science :)
Water and death are very closely connected in elden ring, even the aspects of life (the crucible) are all exclusively based on land creatures. You should look into the connection between elden ring and angels egg by mamori oshii, it’s a movie that has inspired the soulsborne genre a lot and has a LOT of water (and flood) imagery, part of the story of the movie reminds me a lot of the Deathrite birds maybe it’s a look into their themes and meaning. It feels to me like the shapes of death all exist in the depths of the ocean, taken by the flood, and the figures of life and the crucible are those that exist floating on ark
my theory is that Godwyn's dead faces are flesh bit taken away from him that have grown back a new body. My reason is that it is because their eyes are closed and they don't have larva flies roots. It's as if they are missing the half of the rune of death

Sabriri is kinda like a prophet of the Frenzied Flame, and is known to be a liar... so how do we know the Flame truly was the One Great and is trying to reform itself, and not just truly to destroy and consume everything? A priestess named Yao Bikuni is said to have consumed it. It was a big inspiration in the story of Sekiro, which had fish people and creatures who granted immortality when consumed. So Godwyn being fishy is not a surprise to me
Cool Gecko finally we know what Animal Godwyn is Based of👍🏾 I believe that the Black Knive Assassins are former Maidens and they are the One’s who killed all the Maidens in the Lands between. No one talks about the Maidens and there connection to this whole Story. They did more than just kill Godwyn, they made sure that Melina is the only Maiden left alive. What we oversee is that Marika banished Godfrey and his Warriors only the Men where banished, while most of the Woman where kept as “Maidens”. Marika used them to spread Blessings of the Erdtree to the People and to bring Order to the Lands between after banishing Godfrey. Then came the Dire Plot to sabotage the Erdtree via The Rune of Death and to Eliminate all the Maidens that were not involved in that Plot. So that only one Maiden would be left… the Kindling Maiden, Marikas own Daughter Melina. What we also overhear is that Radagon tried to be a God… maybe he also wanted to attempt the Gate of Divinity, to make the Same steps like Miquella, by divesting yourself of everything and Marika stopped him by shattering the Elden Ring. So Radagon is the one who tried to sabotage Marika and her Erdtree Order, because Radagon only cares about the “Golden Order”. Also Radagons Golden Order Fundamentalists become Hunter of the Dead, by killing Godwyn and spreading Deathroot and its curse, those people found an absolute Evil to content with. So Radagon would have also profited from Godwyns Death in a Twisted way.

The rune of death is a parasite plant, spreading from Godwyns corpse. A lot of the story makes sense once you start realizing its all taken from norse mythology.

Weren't the Black knifes on Bad terms with Ranni and also Miquella? Since they killed Iji and attacked Rannis tower and were killed by Blaidd, plus, the Black knifes in Ordina aren't really guarding the Haligtree, given 2 of them are hiding in Ordina and the 3rs one is dead outside the Seal.

I was thinking where to leave this interesting info and since u mentioned water... :) It seems like gold and/or silver when "dusted" into nano particles change color. It might have to be inside liquid or something i dont fully get it but gold depending on the size of its particles (nano range) changes its color from purple to red. So if Marika is gold makes sense that her children are Messmer (red) and Melina (purple - GEQ), later Miquella - purple and Melania red. Silver has the same property but it is a whole rainbow of color which also fits a lot with mimic tears and stuff. The examples i've seen on google are all inside of a liquid. Maybe we are all drowned or something... So to become gold u either cant be an empyrean from two gods as u become just purple/red. Or be an empyrean from two gods and later divest ur flesh and add corpses to become a nugget, or u just cant be born gold at all? :D idk.. This could lead to conclusion that Marika was the "red" child and her sister/brother the purple since the age of the crucible was red or some combination along those lines. Also looks like silver can look black, so godwyn might have been reburned with larval tear - all google science :)

Water and death are very closely connected in elden ring, even the aspects of life (the crucible) are all exclusively based on land creatures. You should look into the connection between elden ring and angels egg by mamori oshii, it’s a movie that has inspired the soulsborne genre a lot and has a LOT of water (and flood) imagery, part of the story of the movie reminds me a lot of the Deathrite birds maybe it’s a look into their themes and meaning. It feels to me like the shapes of death all exist in the depths of the ocean, taken by the flood, and the figures of life and the crucible are those that exist floating on ark

@theemeraldgecko310 the ningyo is a legendary Japananese mermaid/merman, allegedly immortal and granting immortality to those who consumed its flesh. A priestess named Yao Bikuni is said to have consumed it. It was a big inspiration in the story of Sekiro, which had fish people and creatures who granted immortality when consumed. So Godwyn being fishy is not a surprise to me

I believe that the Black Knive Assassins are former Maidens and they are the One’s who killed all the Maidens in the Lands between. No one talks about the Maidens and there connection to this whole Story. They did more than just kill Godwyn, they made sure that Melina is the only Maiden left alive.
What we oversee is that Marika banished Godfrey and his Warriors only the Men where banished, while most of the Woman where kept as “Maidens”. Marika used them to spread Blessings of the Erdtree to the People and to bring Order to the Lands between after banishing Godfrey.
Then came the Dire Plot to sabotage the Erdtree via The Rune of Death and to Eliminate all the Maidens that were not involved in that Plot. So that only one Maiden would be left… the Kindling Maiden, Marikas own Daughter Melina.
What we also overhear is that Radagon tried to be a God… maybe he also wanted to attempt the Gate of Divinity, to make the Same steps like Miquella, by divesting yourself of everything and Marika stopped him by shattering the Elden Ring. So Radagon is the one who tried to sabotage Marika and her Erdtree Order, because Radagon only cares about the “Golden Order”.
Also Radagons Golden Order Fundamentalists become Hunter of the Dead, by killing Godwyn and spreading Deathroot and its curse, those people found an absolute Evil to content with. So Radagon would have also profited from Godwyns Death in a Twisted way.

@@theemeraldgecko310 EVERYTHING in elden ring is straight up taken from norse mythology. Balder is killed by the mistletoe, a parasitic plant. The rune of death is a parasite plant, spreading from Godwyns corpse. A lot of the story makes sense once you start realizing its all taken from norse mythology.
