    Nice lesson, coach. I play with a big hitter and (eventually remember to) make these adjustments. One thing I notice about staying low and using a short backswing is that it doesn't really cost me any power. If I can make good contact on his hardest shot, I can redirect that force and end up taking away some of his time . If he hits a deep shot that skids near the baseline, I can send it back with interest by staying low and taking it off the rise!

    Simon....my second day here.
    Wow! Superb advice and training.
    I am a complete newbie.
    Played sometimes for fun back when I was kid.
    Found my racket [Andre Agassi Donnay]
    and started hitting the ball against my wall.

    The number 1 player on my high school tennis team (graduated this year) is a big hitter, and what I do when I play against him is block the ball back; the momentum of his shots helps me get pace on my own

    Hi Simon,
    Thank you so much for these great advice. How should I deal with balls that are powerful and bounce very high passing baseline?
    Seems stepping back a bit and wait for the ball to drop a bit more. Any other tips?

    I can control pace quite well when playing stronger players as there is consistency and tempo. Slower erratic balls are hard to time.

    • @Eliath1984
      @Eliath1984 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      if you have consistency I'd say your best bet in a match is familiarize yourself with High Percentage Shots and then wait till your opponent makes a mistake(out of position, short ball, out of rhythm shot) and that's where you probe that mistake.. you don't have to look to end the point in 1 shot if you don't feel comfortable doing so as you can win alot of points just by unforced errors. just know his strengths or learn them as fast as you can during the match.. if he's got an absolutely solid forehand try to keep the ball in play to his backhand.. make him beat you with his weakness. And let the match come to you. the openings will show themselves. As you get more experience you won't have to think about it. and even now if you spend TOO much time thinking about where to hit the ball you are gonna get in your own mind.

    Great video as always! Any advice for dealing with fast balls when hitting a one handed backhand? I find myself slicing more than I would like to…feels awkward to shorten the backswing and come over the top with the one hander especially when dealing with big serves…

    • @elkness84
      @elkness84 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @A S I think that’s the bulk of the issue, I think I don’t have time by the time a hard serve is hit, and I think a two hander would add more stability on the return, I guess I just need more practice against pace on the backhand side when using the one hander…

    • @elkness84
      @elkness84 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I film on those courts very early, often starting at 630am or so. So often, you’ll see the courts empty due to the time. Most players will start playing around 9/10am

    You really should spend more time mentioning the footwork. This game at a high level is more about how we move our feet than what we do with our hands. When watching the pros, I like to study their feet the most.

    Just get Mike Agassi's ball machine called "The Dragon" and stand on the baseline and hit every shot on the rise. Plus, hit a million balls and you will be a slam winner.
