    Thank you. I have seen this video many times and I learn something new always. Firstly, I need to stop panicking. Secondiy, prepare in advance and backswing at 45 degrees.

    Pretty amazing. My coach top advise was: when you hit the ball, your body should look like it is doing it effortless. I have been trying to achieve this efortless hit for a long time now... going through your videos and drills tips makes the whole thing a lot easier. Thanks!!

    This is my third time around for this lesson. I practice and apply it each time I go out to rally. What became quite plain to me is that this approach provides a very good means of 'finding' the ball, which I think your comments below about catching the ball touch on -- we have to track it and time it, and physically come in contact with it under control.

  • @JoeW041

    I truly enjoy and learn from your lessons. They have made my game so much better. It has finally occurred to me that I need to learn to simply relax and "dance" with the ball like I move with the music and a woman on the dance floor.
    I like the way that you take the game apart for its technical aspects and then put it back together for a smooth approach in which you learn to trust your body.
    I have watched many tennis instructional videos on TH-cam and find that you are indeed the number one teacher, far and away better than everyone else. Please know that your time and efforts are sincerely appreciated.

    Another nice video Tomaz! I find that if I think about catching the ball with my hand, rather than hitting it, my timing is better. As the ball comes to me, I move like I'm going to catch it. I drop my hand below the flight of the ball and, as it gets near, I reach out for it. This reaching starts my stroke. It doesn't really matter where (or if) the ball bounces. Even though this sounds convoluted, on video, it looks like a normal stroke.

    • @feeltennis
      @feeltennis  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good point, John. "Catching" the ball calms down the stroke as we naturally slow down and even stop the hand when we catch a fast moving object. I feel more just sweeping through the contact zone with a calm, undisturbed, steady movement and the ball is bounced off (rather than me hitting it).

    Hi, just wanted to give You a feedback: I am myself tennis coach (in Finland) and I like Your videos VERY MUCH. I like that You think and observe very well and can isolate the reason of the problem and thats why You can find original and didacticaly very good exercises. I myself applied few of them in my coaching! Thanks a lot! Maybe when I am ones in Slovenia, it would be nice to see You coaching personally :) (I myself am Czech and spend every summer few weeks in Middle Europe...)...

    Once again, a very lucid, rational, and somehow comforting, explanation of how to survive the unsurvivable: a shell blast right at your feet. Normally, I would have just given up on a shot like this or written success or failure up to the Gods of the Odds, but no, "Daddy" Tomaz calmly explains what to do and, in doing so, makes everything seem alright. "You can do this," he seems to be saying, "and here's how." Thank God for making people like this guy. (And thank you, Tomaz, for another EXCELLENT video.)

    Tomaz, Great teaching points and drills. Your third point of staying low and maintaining eye contact in this fast ball situation is important not only at the baseline, but it applies equally to the half volley wouldn't your agree? When I saw this at 5:00 in the video, it reminded me that too often when I miss my half volleys I find myself looking forward instead of tracking the ball.

    One can also see a great example of this by watching a TH-cam video of Connors vs. McEnroe, especially their early matches. Conners would blast a hard, low, shot and McEnroe would also slow motion his racquet swing. Talk about timing and reading the ball!

    Some very good points in this video, I would just say to be careful using words like pushing and going slow when talking about tennis strokes. Tennis swings work best when they can flow, even when handling fast balls. Pushing can take away the feel of a flowing swing, and going slow will risk the racket decelerating before contact. I like that you emphasise the loose holding of the racket, that's very important.

    • @miguelbarahona6636

      +Nick Wheatley There are other Tomaz videos in wich he explains that every groundstroke is composed of throwing and pushing action. In a normal drive the percentaje of throwing is higher, but when handling fast balls, the percentaje of pushing is higher. Nick it´s your work to find the correct balance in each situation.

  • @McNickolson
    @McNickolson 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I had that problem today, I had an opponent that his only goal was to hit as hard as possible. Many times after the ball was bouncing it would just pass by me quite high not being able to hit it. Does that mean that I should place myself quite further back from the bounce point or should I go more to the front and try to hit it as it lifts from the ground? Thanks a lot for all the help!

    • @feeltennis
      @feeltennis  10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You may be too tight when guiding the ball, see if you can hold the racquet "nicely". Secondly, you must have clear intention of where you want to play the ball before you hit it. Is that's not in your mind, meaning you are aiming very deep, the ball won't go deep. And thirdly, keep adjusting, if balls are short, aim deeper. Here and there the ball will sail long and that's normal...

    Hi Tomas, with my usual partner, if I return the ball like that he will crash a winner 70/80% of the time. I can't afford to not be aggressive as he moves incredibly well and has a great forehand. Pushing is not a good option also because he is astute and varies the speed of the serve a lot. I have to go for it so at least I have more chance to win some points. I tried all the tactics and this one is the only one that seems to work.

    • @feeltennis
      @feeltennis  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you push the ball deep enough into the last quarter then he cannot attack without risk. Even the top pros have to play neutralizing balls deep back down the middle and they are not "going for it".

      It's the same principle, there is nothing different in technique of a backhand when the ball is short or long. You just need to time it correctly and be willing to initiate the stroke before you see the ball bounce. I do realize that visual learning is best and most simple so will keep that in mind for future videos.

    OK but I want to crush rapid balls like rafa. Can you pkease make a video on that? For exemple his passing forhand on the run. Tactically when you just return the ball gently, your opponent is going to overpower you.
