    Check capacitor by checking amps and volts if cap is good you will read both if volts and no amps cap is open if amps but no volts cap is shorted this will trip breaker it happens to dual capacitors more often and that is probably why the 5microfarad side of the dual cap was not being used a capacitor can read good if the only thing checked is the microfarad reading but still be shorted internally.

    That did seem to trip way too quick to be lock rotor...normally the compressor would attempt to start. But running the fan without the compressor proved there was no dead short upstream of the contactor so that means it's failing under load leading to either the compressor or the breaker/panel. I've seen it where the bus bar was burned up and the there was arcing under a decent load causing a dead short.

  • @guytech7310
    @guytech7310 13 วันที่ผ่านมา +5

    May have been the compressor connector that had a short in it. Might have been useful to check the connector for a short.

      @@richardbartlett6932 I think he disconnected the cable from the contactor when he ran the test, thus excluding the cable. Maybe I am mistaken.

    • @jthonn
      @jthonn 10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@MrJujubean That is possible, that wiring was cracked up. I think that the unit sat so long the compressor was stuck. Now this rarely works and kind of barbaric, but I have taken a block of wood and a hammer and give the compressor a good wack, and sometimes it would start. Then I would install a hard start capacitor on it. That unit was old and it wasn't worth all the risk. If you got it going and then discover a leak, then you are really screwed. He made the right choice.
