    As an American whose ancestors were British, when I see footage of the UK like this, I feel a strong emotional bond to it as if the landscape is embedded deep into my DNA, like some mystical force is trying to call me home.

      How about England? Most of it is sunny and fairly dry, almost all the time, summer or winter. Most people can't seem to believe that until they experience it and see the graphics/maps of annual rainfall and sunshine. Most of England gets less rain than anywhere I've lived in Ontario. Western Scotland, rainy, Wales, Ireland, England, not so much.

      @@markhirstwood4190 I believe she is equating Britain with England. Which makes sense. I being from there also equate Britain with England although I tend to say Great Britain 🇬🇧 or when I’m feeling rather contentious I say British Empire lol

      @@markhirstwood4190 I Believe she is equating Britain with England which makes no sense what so ever. England as we know is as legitimate as Scotland and Wales as a kingdom. I think you need to look more closely at the history of castles. They were actually citadels as you see in the White City in LOTR. Many people of all ranks lived within or around a castle. They were safe places to withdraw into in times of insecurity as well as initially, a way to exert dominance over a hostile countryside. In a hierarchical society it is hard to imagine a different set up. I guess you could look at the Anglo Saxons or the Scottish clan system as an alternative. Unfortunately they were both defeated by the “ castle” system. You have to have a safe defensible location ( think of Neolithic hilltop forts with their deep ditches and walls or palisades. )

      Hi Chitus, If you manage to get to England one day then one place I would suggest is The Lake District. There are some great trails and walks around that area. Yorkshire has many great walks and scenery. However I am a Scotsman so I am heavily biased when it comes to suggestions such as these. The west coast of Scotland is home to some of the most beautiful scenery in the world and that is mentioned as such in many guide books. There are now some great videos to be found on TH-cam with many people posting there vlogs etc. You will probably have seen some of the sights if you have watched movies like Highlander, Harry Potter and of course James Bond . You should be able to go online to get some ideas. You could also get in touch with the Scottish tourist board,who will give you many more ideas than I have time to write. You may also be able to get free maps and guides for specific areas if you find something that you are interested in. I hope that someday you will be able to visit us and have a break. I’m sure you will not be disappointed. Take care - and I wish all the very best to you and yours. Rab

    the thought never occurred to me to live anywhere other than where i was born and raised---(probably after A night in T.J MEXICO) but i sure wish i had!!! i could've wallowed all the days of my life in their history and ruins!!!! i find i don't have a need to know WHY or HOW something is----such as stonehenge---just that it's "STILL" and can be marveled at is awe inspiring to me. it's so stinking cool what CAN be done when people work together. saving history----once it's gone---there's no getting it "back." KING ARTHUR'S TOWER STILL EXISISTS???? omg THAT'S what i'm talkin' about!!!

    The best thing about the British is how they value and preserve their heritage and green spaces, they seem to have a sense of pride in keeping them neat. In my country it's the opposite mentality, people don't care, thus a lot of the country is ugly and chaotic.

    I think one of the reasons why the national trusts grew so large is because many landowners who couldn’t afford to pay the inheritance taxes decided to give it to the state rather to lose the property during a Auction

      In fact, the Queen gifted all the Royal Estates, to the Nation, exactly as her forebear, George 11 had done...We have access to Buckingham Palace..(not open yet, due to covid)...and to Sandringham, the Queens modest country retreat..(no bedrooms are open to view) Balmoral and Windsor Castle are owned by the Monarch..she pays taxes, and most of any repairs, like the awful fire in Windsor, some years ago...

    I would like to add, living in a country with a government like ours doesn’t resonate with the people who live here. Britain better leave well enough alone with the monarchy and parliament. They do take care of your country. You want history removed just remove the monarchy. Ours is being demolished almost daily. Take care of what you wish for. You have a beautiful country, respect for one another. Keep it that way.

    Am I correct in drawing the conclusion that the National Trust is focusing mostly on the acquisition of lands ,rather than the preservation of the building and art works. I have concerns that some of the lands acquired are being left to return to the sea,rather than drained as began by our ,Huguenot friends in the 17 century. Both are of value .

    Would love to come back to the UK one day. Been working abroad for 3 years trying to save money. Biggest issue in UK is that the nicest areas are so expensive and far from most jobs, the other areas are grey cities or dump towns which I couldn't live in again.

    • @KillerWhale99
      @KillerWhale99 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's the problem. This video shows some very beautiful places from the air. It doesn't show you all the rundown shithole towns and cities on offer and basically if you want to work its London and the South-East where the cost of buying or renting is astronomical. Some areas of the UK have been in decline for well over 40 years and don't seem to be improving. Take Manchester for example - two great football teams and knives, guns, drugs and crime....little else that I'm aware of...
