There really is not enough info out there about networking on the Amiga.i have been playing with a script for my channel for about 8 months now, bit I want to make it as easy to follow as possible - hard to do with Samba stuff!

Thanks for the kind words :) My name's actually Rob Cranley - turns out that string is slightly too long for Exchange to display :p A couple of points to add: First, smbfs is written by Olaf Barthel and gets regular updates, so it's worth checking for the latest version every so often. Second, Samba itself is a beast of a package and isn't actually required to do the basic stuff like you were doing. What Samba does give you is a couple of command line tools that you can extract and use on their own (nmblookup and smbclient) - together these commands, when installed, give SMBMounter the ability to browse the network for servers, and browse a server for shares. And finally, if you're feeling lazy, SMBMounter will make up names for your share and volume entries automatically if you enter the server and share name details first.

Thanks for sharing this!!!! Back in the day up until a few years ago I used a NULL MODEM connection to transfer files between my Amiga's and different computers. When I got Amiga Forever I played with Amiga explored both serial and network from my A2000 and my desktop. I first had a 10m Network Card for my A2000 then I went with an XSurf100 which I now also have in my A4000 so moving files between my desktop which does have an Amiga dedicated drive which is backed up to my server which has all my Commodore related files but I have yet to setup my Amiga's to share files directly on my server and after seeing this video you will have helped me achieve that very last part of the puzzle.

i tried this with my A500 gvp scsi, it took me a few tries back and forth with a disk to get the files, but i plipbox to share with Amitcp. worked very good. never new this. thank you!!! I used just download slow or floppy-net! now i can back some stuff up to my windows drive. i did get error of SMB1.0 not enabled on windows 10, but i added it in and all is well. thanks for making these. loved the thug life. dont worry about the haters. that is what makes the Amiga Community so divided. keep going. 1600 subs didnt get here by haters.... keep it up

Thanks man. I was struggling with Samba today and your hosts hint solved my problem. Same is in Genesis
P.S. you did not mentioned, but with Diskimage program you can load ISO directly from samba share, and it behaves as you have phisicall CDROM on your Amiga.

Thanks Chris, This is awesome. Amazing that we can connect to share using 35 year old tech. One question, is there any special things we should note when connecting on pimiga? I can connect to the net, however not to my NAS share.

Does this have any effect on WHDLoad stuff, or any direct-execute games or programs for the Amiga?

runs fine to me, many of us run things from our network drives.

    Great vid...
I've been just using FTP for a while and finally decided to use SMB.
I decided not to use the newer versions of the SMB protocol, because my NAS doesn't support them and there's no updates for it anymore. (I'll need to replace it eventually), so all I needed was SMB v1 and that and SMB Mounter work great together.

Nice to see a video making it look easy and showing that at least I am not crazy. I am trying to connect to a share on my laptop with the latest LinuxMint and other systems in the house can see and access the share. The Amiga can see it and asks for a login and I use my username and password and it rejects it notifying me to check my credentials. If I set the share to allow others to create and delete files and set guest access then the Amiga mounts the share and it works but still complains about the login credentials.
