Ariana did a cover of emotions years ago and everyone said she was trying too hard to be Mariah. Now she's in a point in her career to where she doesn't care if people compare her to Mariah. I'm sure now she'll be using it more often and we'll see exactly what she can do. Her song "my hair" was the first time she ever released a song singing words in her whistle registry. Minnie Ripperton was great, bust she was not able to sing words on her whistle registry, just sing like a bird. That's what made her different. Mariah was the first recording artist to sing words in whistle and she mastered it and is still able to do it today.
