A note from Jakob (the editor) on video gear:
There are a lot of things we use to make videos that I wouldn't recommend people to use for theirs. It's just stuff we had on hand, so it's what we use. That being said, there are things we use that I would recommend, and those are listed below. I'm working on putting together a FULL recommended list of equipment to get your videos looking super sharp. That's coming soon :)

I'm trying to get better at mentioning the book names and authors when I show a book for those that are listening but not watching. I know I have work to do and missed the ball this time... Still working on getting better at it!
Thank you for mentioning it. We sometimes can’t see the title of the book or the author. Happy 4th of July 🇺🇸🫡
@@sleepevenbetter oh I know I have work to do there. I will get better I promise!

Glad you liked the books John, and Jakob’s pronunciation of my name is spot on. Psyched to see Alistair Reynolds here, he’s really good at hard sci-fi. Also, a shelf tour is a must!
I will get Jakob to tutor me. My friend so generous I truly thank you and am so excited to get to this series. Studio and shelf tour is in the works.
@@Talking_Story No worries, it's all good :) Looking forward to it!
You're not the only one with issues. My book bying ban is quickly coming apart and I don't even feel bad about it. Also, your bookhauls are helping with that. So many interesting titles this time!

@@Talking_Story yey go team bookinsane! Oh that reminds me, I just saw the prettiest cover in the bookstore today. I believe it was cloud atlas. Im still on the fence about buying it and reading it. I have never been one to buy books just because of the covers but this one comes close. And maybe I should just read it despite my initial gut feeling. The gut can't always be right can it? 🙂

What a great haul. I predominately buy audiobooks nowadays, so I don’t have to worry too much about space considerations for my books. All of the shelves we do have are full, not that my wife pays attention to that. She still goes ham on books for the kids.
Not only do you have Jacob's room to turn into a library, you can help him establish a home library by letting him keep some books at his new place for him to get to. Right? All to benefit him and not at all get around space limitations at your own house...
Thanks for the kind words on Small Town Problems. I think it's right up your alley and will be a perfect break between those epics.
@@christhewritingjester3164 yes I am buying all these books for him. It’s for the kids! I look forward to squeezing that book in quickly!

@@libraryunbounded can’t wait to see what u add to your stacks.
Jakob, stop shaming your father! I'll start pointing!
That is an impeccable book haul sir, you're making me want to get in on the action. The only reason I haven't had people send me stuff is because I'm always paranoid about having my info out there. I'm afraid someone might get the idea of breaking in my house and stealing my stuff, or cuddling me or something. We can't have that. Anyway, I got some books this month, my good friend Joe Berne sent me the second and third books of the Hybrid Helix. I also nabbed The Prophet of Edan, Tori's book Phased, and In The Valley of The Sun, a vampire book. I probably got some other books, but I forget them at the moment.
PL Stuart is a pretty cool guy, I talked to him on my pod about two months ago. Somehow he is a fan of my beloved Oklahoma Sooners even though he's in Canada. I don't know how it's possible, but it was cool to know!

Wow John I have been sneaking in the audiobook of the Daughter’s War in the wee hours of the morning before my family wakes up and it has been amazing. Although the tone is exactly opposite of Blacktongue which is frenetic & whimsical, this book has an underlying tone of sadness and the story is told super slowly. The prose has been great and Buelhman has brought it to another level. Before you crown Ruocchio as the next poet laureate here is a line that stuck with me.
“These dames have lost their fathers, uncles, grandfathers and husbands to the biters and had their hearths robbed of low voices and heavy treads”.
Ohhh that is very nice.
John first off I love your channel. I was an avid reader for most of my life. I took a decade off from reading. Last year I started up again. Brian Lee Durfee and yourself were the catalyst for me to jump back in. Since last year I've spent a few thousand bucks on books. Now I'm getting my bookshelf built for my mancave another big expense. I'M ALL FOR IT LOL. It's not a disease we're just collecting lol. Keep up the great work!

I think you’re gonna really enjoy Service Model, it’s definitely a good palate cleanser. And this is coming from someone who also doesn’t like Murderbot! The City of Last Chances is also really fun! Godkiller is a good buddy buddy adventure, haven’t had time for Sunbringer yet.

Nothing wrong with buying more books! Of course there can never be enough. Umberto Eco's personal library was over 30,000 books! Anyway, great vid, lotta fun, I love seeing a big pile of new books, it's like catnip to me. Nothing would devastate me more than if I had managed to read every book in my library. I'd have nowhere to go!
@@HabitualBlood I will not have that problem for a while. 😂. But what a nightmare! No new books waiting to be read. Never happen around here.
House of Suns is my favourite space opera. The scale is immense and it’s amazing how many concepts he packs into a standalone!

@@TheBeardedBookBeast I love this sentiment!
What a haul! Loved seeing Alex Verus pop up, I’ve been loving that series this year and things have heated up so much where I’m at in bk 8 I’m just glued to it now. The first half of the series are pretty great palate cleansers though in terms of quick digestible books, but they’re not particularly light/humorous in tone so I wouldn’t expect that kind of palate cleanser.
Also love seeing some by one of my favs Tchaikovsky-I’m excited to get to Service Model myself and to that Tyrant Philosophers series!
He is on my want to try new authors by years end. I think I can squeeze in Service Model pretty quickly.
I'm so excited to get to Neon Ghosts. It was in my End of Summer TBR and it's beautiful.
Man, The Advent of Winter is gorgeous. I really wanted it, but because of terrible experiences I've had with the curator as well as several of the authors -- I couldn't financially support them because I'm an overeducated and underemployed Zoomer. Lol. I'm so jealous of beloved BookTubers. Maybe I'll eventually find a secondhand copy, though.
