I used to play in the "Moats"! when a child as did most of Dover's youth. You rather exaggerate the dangers I feel, but this is another age. I am 72 now and it still looks the same to me. Great seeing the place again...
That bit at the end was back-filled in the 80's during one of the many attempts at sealing off the entrances to tunnels around the Western Heights. I'll never understand why the DDC haven't turned the Heights into a tourist attraction.
2:46, no, there clearly wasn't any more of those climb points, the holes are planned features in the structure. Note the embedded arch above them, made to take up the load on the hole (much like the arch slabs above the king's chamber in the great pyramid of Khufu). So whatever purpose those holes served, they did have an important purpose, important enough to make structure around and with them. FYI, the arch is overkill, at the original height of the wall. But, now, probably what saved it with the added weight on top.
4:29 - post WW2 in that era the country was pretty much broke any usable metal like those doors probably were would have been either sold off or used as a part of the domestic post-war recovery effort.
Great video chaps" The sun always seems to shine on you folk when you are out on a explore ... Keep up the great work as you're the best. Hi from a very wet cold Liverpool.
I saw that plaque to, I wonder if it was the invention of the electric light bulb that they were introducing there, 1890 not sure but just a guess and well spotted.
use to play on wwII gun turrets overlooking the golden gate san francisco when i was in prep school. we'd jump the chains, and ride our bikes up to the top of the hill. the enormous mounts for the big guns were still in place. always a great place to find graffiti, broken glass, and urine: for whatever reason. i always liked to get my drink on back at the house.
Think he said "borstal boys"... -A borstal is/was the place young offenders would be sent, if too young for prison. Watch the film 'Scum' for a gritty, nasty fictional account. It's pretty grim.

Looks like a fun adventure!

This place is great. How come on your site you only sell t-shirt sizes up to 2xl? I'm a 4xl 59inch chest and really want a glow in the dark IKS shirt
For real? That's a real size?
Fascinating explore, and thanks as always. By the way, it was very interesting to see that British holes look very much like American ones. ;-)
