Thank you Jeremiah! I'm from Leon and my parents move us to Iowa in 1965, where I spent my formative years; moved to Houston in 1981 and have been here ever since. I owned several pairs of Tecovas, Justin, and Cuero Boots. This is a great promotional video about the industry.
Before Tecovas got big here I worked with a guy who used to go down to visit family in Leon a few times a year, he used to bring back brand new boots with no brand names on them. Basically we got brand new non labeled Tecovas for $90-$100 / pair when he brought them back! Loved them then and love them now.

I have essentially worn leather footwear from leon, guanajuato all my life. First when i lived in Mexico as a child, and now as an adult here in the states
Jeremiah I am from a town closed to Leon so to save money on shoes, we buy boots because you can get a pair of work boots cowboy style for 33 dollars and wear them for years. And the belts they make you wear them for so long that even though they still in good condition you replace it, because after so many years you want to wear a new one.
After researching Tecovas the cost per pair from the Factory is 31 dollars US lol. Yep it’s an amazing quality Boot and no you can’t buy directly from Cuadra without a business License. Lol I’m looking at Abilene and Tecovas now and may actually buy a new non blemished Boot for once lol.
First, I love your video’s. I thought about ordering Tecovas THE CARTWRIGHT, COLOR: BOURBON, MATERIAL: CALFSKIN, but I hate that dark colored toe and heal. I want it all the same bourbon color. Can that be easliy corrected?
Los Altos also makes Wild West boots and King Exotic. Some of those brands are machine lasted rather than hand lasted like you saw in the video. It's cheaper to make that way but sometimes the boots stretch out too much with machine lasting and end up sloppy. Not always but it can happen
I live in Chicago but i have an aunt who lives in Leon, so if I want a new pair of boots we just have her ship them to us over here and we pay her but it's cheaper that way cuz buying boots there in Leon is cheaper.
I haven't tried a true Los Altos brand boot over a long period of time yet but I have tried the YeeHaw Cowboy boots and they are made right there in the same factory and I love them. Their factory is really well run with lots of focus on quality. I can't wait to get a los Altos because I like what I see. Hope this helps
It was mentioned that Tecovas had quality issues with one boot maker and switched. I have a pair that may be a product of the quality issue (I believe I bought them in 2018). The piping appears to be plastic and it cracked in several places. The white cord is now exposed. Not a huge deal but my other Tecovas don’t have that problem. Love my boots and it’s more for appearance. I took them to a cobbler but they couldn’t replace the piping. Does anyone know of a solution or do I have to live with it?
I've had several boots with the plastic piping or cracked piping and to my knowledge there is no way to fix or replace it without taking the entire boot apart which would be costly and not worth it. I usually note the issue and live with it until it's time to get a new pair of boots then get a different brand
Thanks for the quick response. Regarding the fix, that’s what the cobbler was implying. Actually these boots were on sale so I’m guessing that was the reason. To me it was a minor glitch. Love Tecovas and recommend them to anyone who will listen.
The Yeehaw Cowboy boots from Leon I have got are well made, the finish is okay. But as you say you could get a badly made boot from anywhere. Leon has done well becoming the boot capital, just wish some of the boots coming from their weren't quite as samey.

Till you learn how terrible they are made,don’t get me wrong they make some damn good looking boots, but I’m not into fast fashion. I need something long lasting and yes my ostrich tecovas are nice but kill my feet.
I grew up in the 70's and Mexico was the place to go for custom leather upholstery for your hotrod , great craftsmen and they make good guitars too.

Looking at your Los Altos vid, I also noticed Wild West. Are these basically the same company? Any difference in build, or is it simply style?

Where I bought my shoes (Italy), I knew the designer of the shoes and owner of the factory.

I bought a pair of cowboy boots I loved. Sadly theyre the wrong fit and now I don't want them... I have had them less then a year.. its sad
I hate when that happens. Try selling them and buying a slightly used pair to save money and then it's less risk for sizing
