WOW!!!! That is impressive to say the least!! Will be neat to see if they get this out to market and what the final price is and how rugged it will be! I'll be following this one for sure! Thanks for sharing!
@lexsean21 The flashlight "Beam" is actually broken up into 3 parts, the hotspot (very center of the light), the corona (circle immediately around the hotspot), and the side or "spill" which is the very wide, dim circle of light between the rest of the beam and the surrounding darkness. What you are thinking is stationary light, is actually the side spill of the beam itself, it really is from the flashlight, the camera just isnt wide enough to show it.
This would be perfect for video production. with holes in the corners you could add light forming equipment, if it's not getting to hot. Is it getting very hot? And, what would a commercial version cost?
I wonder if it's brighter than the HID overhead area lighting fixtures that we use to light up the factory where I work. Brighter than the HID lights they use in urban areas to light up parking lots, etc?
Awesome (unless I got caught at the other end). To think that just (about) 180 watts can light up all them hills! Way more efficient than florescent lights! Nice design!
@lexsean21 I am pretty sure that it's just the lights spill over. At 15k lumens on that light the spill over alone should be brighter than most flashlights.
I would love to mount two of these on the front sides of my car (Off roading) I hope this is out for the publc soon, there's already a market CUZ IM INTERESTED! 4sevens if your watching.... I love you. Just needs a 12v car adapter so i can use the cars power.
What is the battery life and will that run out before or after it overheats? Do you think armed forces will use this technology or purchase his products at all?
@goingprepared Thanks for the estimate. I was hoping for a significantly cheaper price but then again quality costs. The FoxFury LED spotlights are not exactly free either. I currently use a 50W HID modded Cyclops X15 but the beam has artefacts that are problematic as I use it for scientific night time photography.
Mount two of these in the grill of a pickup with a switch inside and if someone doesn't dim their lights, give it a quick flick on high. OR land a plane with it. :)
It needs a tripod socket and a way to hook it to a car battery. I would actually like to buy it without any internal batteries and always run it with a car battery. But I MUST have one unless it's crazy expensive.
Next step after this is a flash light powered by an atomic explosion. I heard it's a bit difficult to carry around but when you turn it on people are gonna notice.
So the levels are "Wow, that's extremely bright," "Holy Moley, this is unnecessarily bright and should be illegal," and finally "Oh %@#!, I've blinded the entire state of Nevada!"
Less of a flashlight and more like a search light... Anyhow all those batteries in one unit seems unwieldy for something hand-held. As LEDs are fairly lightweight, it seems like the head should be separated from the batteries and run power from a pack via a heavy guage coil cord. Cool in concept otherwise though.
Sports stadiums should switch to LED lighting. The energy savings would be enormous. I converted my home's lighting to LEDs and cut my electric bill by $130 a month, consistently.
@goingprepared But you not got my point, Im maybe 28 years old, but I want to see this prototype from the front, so how it looks like, while its switched On... Like a child who wants to see the toy blinking its lights and running around... Got my Point????
Yea marsh geez!!!! Hahaha jk I don't have any idea what the hell these people are talking about I think they should just admire the heck out of a 18000 lumen light instead of wanting doubt it or something I dunno. Great video, even though I prolly said this a year ago :)
18 k lumen... wtf are they nuts! i know a flashlight is handy in the dark but that thing will fuck uo the day night pattern of any living thing it shines on. isntant jetlag for wildlife lol.
zool201975 Now i realise there is kinda a reason 40k lumen flashlights dont exist. It takes 500 watts so you need a huge battery. off a 110wh lipo battery i get 10 min. Also at anything closer then 5 meters it blinds you making it kinda useless as a handheld torch.
Jette Christensen let alone being an immense hazard for any traffic in a few kilometers radius lol I have seen lights as powerful as 50 k. but that is literally one lamp on an huge aluminium pole that lits up an entire construction site of about 30 new family homes to prevent people from entering at night trying to find construction materials to steal n stuff.
Man that's crazy, I just picked up a flash light with 3 cree xm-l leds and it is crazy bright, can only imagine how this lights up the area!
*It's been 10 years ... is that thing being made? is there a better version?
WOW!!!! That is impressive to say the least!! Will be neat to see if they get this out to market and what the final price is and how rugged it will be! I'll be following this one for sure! Thanks for sharing!
Oh sweet, merciful Batman I hope they put those into production.
@cabo02 it has an active cooling system, that turns on when it gets warm and will jump down the power when it overheats.

How compact is it and what batteries does it take
Thanks for replying quickly. That is actually kind of light for how many lumens this thing puts out.
Now lets see one with 100 LEDs. I want a flashlight that can be seen from the ISS!
will they make a head mount for mountain biking ?

So any chance I could mount a couple on the bull bar and run a switch back to the dashboard.

any videos from fenix flashlights at shot show 2011 cheers
Since when has 750p quality been considered as "filmed with potato"? or is your connection so bad that you have to watch it with 144p quality?
What is the battery life and will that run out before or after it overheats? Do you think armed forces will use this technology or purchase his products at all?
What kost this flashlight?
this is in my EDC loadout
can you show it through the front wind-screen of a car , and compare it with a car' flash light?

They'd be being driven pretty hard to get 18klm out the window. Impressive! I'm going to have to build a better one :)
You can hear the glaciers melting
I need this mounted backward on my roof to get rid of tailgaters.
It needs a tripod socket and a way to hook it to a car battery. I would actually like to buy it without any internal batteries and always run it with a car battery. But I MUST have one unless it's crazy expensive.
HOW DID I GET HERE!!!!

Why dont thet make 1 spotlight with a 1000x Xenon Light , I have 2 of them on my Truck , Just having 1 makes it daylight hehe
Next step after this is a flash light powered by an atomic explosion. I heard it's a bit difficult to carry around but when you turn it on people are gonna notice.

You know you've gone overboard when you need a cooling fan...

I've got to say I want one. Not quite willing to pay that much though :(

isntant jetlag for wildlife lol.
+zool201975 I made a 42k lumen light with ebay 100 watt leds. It is too bright. Blinds you just using the think to light up anything.
Jette Christensen lol i have no doubt.
zool201975 Now i realise there is kinda a reason 40k lumen flashlights dont exist. It takes 500 watts so you need a huge battery. off a 110wh lipo battery i get 10 min. Also at anything closer then 5 meters it blinds you making it kinda useless as a handheld torch.
