Oldsmobile 442 Lowrider build | Tropical Glitz Car

Here is the final build video of a car I built for my daughter. Its a 1966 Oldsmobile 442 done in a Lowrider theme. Use of color is Tropical Glitz topped with House of Kolor Clear.

Thanks, true about the paint but we are also huge on every other detail. The show models are so detailed with wiring , hand made parts and machined billet.

Great build. what do you use to clean your airbrush after using the Tropical Glitz paint? Thank you.

Use lacquer thinner. I put it in a spray bottle, after painting I take the airbrush apart and spray every part. Then Let parts soak In thinner , scrub or use those cleaning bristles. Spray one more time then put it back together. It was a pain in the beginning but after a few times you’ll be cleaning the gun fast hassle free. Good luck

So do you have to use a clear and if you do how do you sand down all the small parts?

I do use a clear on the body and small parts. Small parts are easier to clear than the body . As long as you stick to 3 coats (,light , medium wet , medium wet ) over a light primer . Most sanding is done prior to color and clear. I sand a lot during mock up and filling any holes or dips using putty. Then I’ll spray a primer, if it looks rough then I wet sand with 600. After that you should be good.

Yeah it’s a lil harder with cans but you can get a decent paint job with them. Just takes certain angles when spraying

on the interior work for the edges did you use foam aswell to do the trim edges or something else?

The piping around the foam is just string. You can find all this at hobby lobby or Walmart. Just add fabric glue in very tiny spots, I use a needle or the tip of the hobby blade to apply it small.

Foam pressed into a biscuit tuck pattern. Lined up with string and mirror tape.
