I have had a few e-spinners and finally got a Hansen mini spinner pro. It’s the smoothest, not noisy, tension stays where you put it and absolutely fantastic customer experience. Love my spinner so much I sold the other e spinners I had.
Thanks for this, it was very helpful! I’ve been looking at e-spinners and the noise is a huge consideration for me, so I appreciate that you showed how much noise they make!
Thanks, That was very informative. I’ve tried a small E spinner, I think it was the electric eel wheel at an event and I loved it. I have not gone down the rabbit hole yet, but I am going to try my Turkish spindle first and then consider an electric spinner next year if I am enjoying some form of spending.
What speeds were these noise comparisons made at? If one wheel is going much faster than another, it might sound louder when another is actually louder, just tested at a much lower speed.
I’ve spent hundreds of hours on my eew6 and I love it! I’m not sure how you did the sound recordings here- my spinner is extremely quiet unless something is really unbalanced causing vibration. In daily use, it is basically soundless, most similar to the expensive 3rd spinner in your demo. I think the video would have been better if you gave your input on how they perform in your hands. It felt more like a version of when a store clerk takes you down the Susie and reads the tag on an item. Have you spent time using the ones that you are showing here? For example your mention of orifice reducers- do some of these not have them? The eew6 does, and it’s easily removed or replaced…
I'm a huge fan of the EEW6 as well. I agree that mine is much quieter than in the recording here. I also had an Ashford AND a Hansen and still prefer the EEW6! D spinners are very nice but way over priced and customer service is terrible and it takes far too long to get your hands on one.
It would be good to include the spin-e-kube too. They are quite economical and make a regular one (scotch or Irish tension) and an art yarn version. I have both and love them.
Spin-e-kube is good, but they are so noisy compared to allll other espinners. I like my kube, I mean it's cute, but it's so loud. I have modified it as much as I can to reduce the noise. It's not a soothing noise either, it's very clangy or clacky sounding. Ive used silencers, felt separators, vibration reducers, cushioning, oil, grease, new bobbins, weights, everything. It's still the loudest wheel I've ever used, including treadle wheels. Spin-e-kube has superb customer service though, anything wrong with any of the 3d printed stuff, they completely replace. Super fast to respond and resolve everything. The woodwork and overall look of the kube is stunning, don't get me wrong, it's a piece of art. Idk. I'm getting ready to get the spinolution firefly :))
Not quite economical, but since you mentioned Hansen, the spinolution firefly is a beautiful machine, built in battery, completely noiseless. Travels well, has a kick stand for floor to chair spinning, modular flyer heads and more whurl and bobbin sizes than you can shake a stick at. 4oz accelerator, to a 64 oz jumbo bobbin.
Oh yes! I’ve heard lovely things about the Firefly! I’ve never seen it in person though… hopefully when fibre festivals are back there might be more chances to glimpse one!
I have an ashford e-spinner, makes a noise sometimes depending on where the yarn is on the bobbin initially but soon settles down. I would be interested to see see a comparison on how these spinners hold up over a few years. Mine is is fine after 4 years of daily use ( often 100gm per day) but as I take it around with me I would be interested in how the eew holds up to constant use as it is lighter.
Help please, I'm just lost. Question: I just bought my first e-spinner, an EEU 6, and I'm trying to figure out if my challenge is 'typical' for e-spinners, if it's me, or if it's just my machine. My problem happens when my bobbin is a quarter full or more: Every time I stop my e-spinner to grab fiber, when I turn it back on the speed can shift quite drastically. I turn it off at one speed, but when I turn it back on to resume at the pre-set speed it's often markedly slower or way faster than the speed I had stopped it at. As a result, I am finding myself constantly fiddling with speed control. It's like once the bobbin gets to a certain weight the e-spinner randomly selects a new speed and has a mind of it's own. It can be way faster one time I turn it back one, and the next it's way slower. Up until I load 2 or 3 ounces of fiber onto the spindle it spins just a dream from heaven, but every bit after that I'm nonstop battle to keep a consistent speed. What am I doing wrong to get these mystery speed changes? I'm an experienced spinner, and I fill my bobbins evenly. I am anxiously awaiting to hear about your experiences. Once there is some weight on the spindle, are these speed change 'normal', is it user error, or is it because I have a budget model machine (or it's faulty)?
Oh wow! That sounds frustrating! I have and EEW 6 and haven’t experienced that issue myself but I would check out the forums that support the Dreaming Robots community. They have a very active Discord community and I’m sure there is a Facebook or Ravelry forum for EEW 6 spinners. You might find more EEW users who can help!
I have a e-spinner from Ashford and that doesn’t make that much noise , as the spinner in your test. Depends on where it is standing and how much oil there is on de moving parts of the spinner. 🧶
I tried them all and love Daedalus wheels - Quiet, Irish tension option for plying, powerful, and best speed control customization.
The Daedalus was an awesome machine… really did well in all our tests.

The Namo should NOT be making that thumping noise. I don’t think it’s set correctly. Mine is almost silent.

The nano is also more durable than it looks. I hit the cord and it fell off the table, and it still works. 😊

I ordered a EEW 6 a while ago, and it arrived broken/nonworking. I was given a very hard time about wanting to just return it, as a warning.

When did you get yours? I find the New ones are much more noisy than espinners3 made a few years ago.
