  • Time blocking has been a game-changer for me. Up until now, I used a normal paper notebook for my time blocking schedule but I heard Cal Newport talking about his new product - The Time-Block Planner and I decided to give it a try. Take a look with me inside of the planner, find out what you can learn in the introduction, how do the daily and weekly pages look like, what might be the shortcomings and what I love about it. If you are using the time blocking technique to organize your day and are on a lookout for a planner that would help you, then definitely watch this video!

Thanks for the video, just got the planner, read Deep Work a long time ago and realized I just needed a simple method to plan the day and stay in the zones, you gave a great overview, feel good about the switch. I like the plain weekly planning pages, just get the thoughts out, get a plan, go do it. Thanks again!

I learned this method from my mother 12-15 years ago, later a former employer taught me to color boxes by priority. Thanks for sharing the inside of the book, I know I don't need to buy it.

That is a great tip! Sorry for turning you off from bying this book :). Hope Cal Newport doesn't see this, haha :)

Oh I thought it was a book! Good thing I saw your video, I saw this at my local bookstore and thought of buying it earlier. Thanks for your video! 😁

Haha, glad I could prevent the disappointment :). But don't worry, Cal Newport is coming up with a new book in March :).

I totally agree with your assessment. I was expecting some more information on how Cal does quarterly plans, yearly plans, how he does and execute his CAPTURE-CONFIG-CONTROL framework etc. I guess you don't need the planner per se. A well detailed blog post would suffice.

I am 11 weeks in using the planner and still using it every day - I don't plan to buy it again but I will want to find a notebook that would allow me to continue with timeblocking with ease. Having the planner is convenient for time blocking but not necessary.
      Thanks for watching!

Thanks so much for doing this! : ) I've also never bought a planner (and am new to time-blocking), so this was great because it's pretty difficult to find an in-depth review of something unconventional like a planner.
aking the time to do this has *already* helped out hundreds of people, and many many more for when including all of your videos.
I thought you should be reminded of that since it can be easy to forget how cool it is for you to do this when the majority of the people you help out don't always voice it in the comments. Keep it up and thanks again : )

Thanks for watching! That crossed my mind as well but I don't really leave it lying around - maximum would be on the desk at home or in the office - in which case my husband or my colleagues could access it but there is also nothing inside that they could not see (and I hope they would still respect my privacy :)).

      @@MarianaKaiser hopefully ;-)
There is some quality in the handwritten above to the mobile notes. If it is written black on white it has more weight. That is the good if you write it on paper. You can really see it in front of you so it is not so easy to find excuses. ;-)

I agree. There is more intention behind it as it takes more (dedicated) time.

Mariana, know I maybe waste your time, but I tell you a little secret, if you can keep it for yourself:
for some people it is "fountain pain", but being sixty in few yeaes I bought four identical lamy pens in the correct collors, that are filled with the same collour the pen has: Blue (here I bought the 1litre-bottle!), red, green and black. (And I fill that with 4 little 5ml syringes - in some kind of little zen-orgy)
Sounds maybe stupid to you, but it is a cheap way of feeling luxury, and that again adds another emotional quality of writing on paper to me :-)

Haha, I am from the Czech Republic but live currently in Australia (also lived in UK, Germany and Japan in the last 15 years). I spent only about 5 years in total as an adult in the Czech Republic.
