Nope, but the hard truth is that 309 pounds for an violin is relatively cheap. For a day one beginner this might be okay, but she recommends it to ADVANCED players and that's ridiculous.

Considering the circumstances (or even without making any allowances at all), I think that you played your Mendelssohn very well. (I trust that your weren't using your best violin!). I would never have the nerve to go out there on the street with a cello and a chair, and play a Bach Suite.... By the way, I think that your "kitten and violin" video is adorable. Living in Italy as I do (ever since 1980), I don't want to get involved in making an intercontinental donation. But as a passionate cat-lover, I thoroughly adored the video, and have sent the link on to my wife, who is one of us where cats are concerned (but who could never go out into the street with her church organ).

How did you like playing outdoors? Nervous? Some of my friends would practice outdoors for a few hours to make some money. Non-musicians like listening even when you're working on a piece.
