    Very cool, I made the one Dave Canterbury showed with the toggles attached on the line via a hole. I made my prusiks with tail ends to use them as a soft shackle to attach the tarp. The toggles are for anchoring and tensioning.
    I really like your idea too, i may make some of your guy lines though as I usually just use a tautline for it or a marlin spike on the stake.

    Great common sense way of doing it. Its funny how youtube will have people come up with the most complex way of doing something.
    I remember in scouts and the army as well many people setting up really cool shelters an thy had no idea how to tie any fancy knot.

    Great detailed instructions.....Details, overview, actual use combined with various angles.
    Only wish that you would use contrasting colors and watch your lighting.
    Possibly use an orange color ridgeline with your black bankline.
    While outdoors, your eyes can adjust for the shadows, the camera sensor is exposing for the brightness in the background, making the detailed work in the shadows much darker.
    Please keep up the great work and creativity and the generosity of your time in sharing your knowledge.

    Why is it that when I see a new or innovative method of cordage use, it's always Frank Bush first? What a neat system. Now I'll have to change the system I have set up (another Frank Bush system) to this one, it's far better.
    Great job Frank, you're still the man, when it comes to cordage and tarps. ;-)

    You could replace the overhand Knots with online Ashley Stopper Knots if you wanted, since they're bulkier, but only necessary with Paracord instead of Bank Line maybe.

    Wow - just spent 2 weeks looking at every ridgeline setup on TH-cam, and yours is by far #1.
    Congrats....
    The idea that you can take 100' of cord and build a system without cutting it shorter is fantastic.
    No toggles or gizmos are needed - just cord.
    The adjustable attachments to the tarp allow for moving the tarp around obstacles and rocks.
    and everything is 100% quick release and quick deploy
    So many systems use the Jungle Knot approach where the ENTIRE length has knots every 5", thus resulting in your cord shrinking to half makes no sense at all.
    Hopefully, many professional adventure companies will adopt the Frank Bush Ridgeline system.
    I think the next evolution of this system might be just ONE cord - somehow, everything but the lower tarp connections is just one piece of rope.
    Again - congrats - nothing better anywhere.

    I like it, I think I'll integrate the jungle loops on my prusiks. I am going to keep at least one toggle for the tensioning side of the ridge line. I don't know if you've seen it but David Canterbury put out a king of simplicity... video a little ways back. I like how he uses the toggle on the tensioning side that becomes self locking, allowing you to make everything tight with just one hand. I like the versatility of the jungle loops on all the extra tie outs you demonstrate here.

      I agree, I think Dave's inline toggles for tensioning and these jungle loop prusiks to attach the tarp are the best of both systems.
      Currently using daves prusik tail ends to make a larks head on one side and sliding the tail through to make a soft shackle. These jungle looks seem a step better than that

    Mr Frank, I have experimented with soft shackle and French bowline at the end of the ridgeline to get rid of toggles for the first tree connection and both are fast and knot free, BUT I think your new way is less fiddely thus making it even faster. Your second tree connection just brilliant, specifically when you demonstrated how it's possible to tighten up. Have never thought of jungle knots for guylines, once again brilliant.

    That might even best my current knot setup in time.
    I’ve been doing a Siberian hitch on one end, and trucker’s on the other for tension, and I’ve been keeping my tarp attached to the ridgeline, but that’s even faster than tying a taut line hitch

      @@frankbush333the guylines here are not my favorite method tbh. Take a look at the Amok Skjold tarp. I’ve fashioned my tarp very similarly. 15d nylon flamescreed tarp, shock cord loops on all tieouts to compensate for stretching, tensioners on the loops where the guylines remain attached, and a piece of Velcro on all guylines to facilitate storing. I secure the guylines to pegs with marlin spike hitches which are the fastest to tie (though I have to take out the peg to untie the knot). Then when all points are pegged I tension them with the tensioners, easily! I don’t lay my tarp symmetrically and these things helps tremendously. When I’m done and I wanna pack up, I just fold the guylines and tie the Velcro really quick. Used to take me 20sec per guyline with a normal coiling method, now it’s 10. Makes a difference when you tie out more than 6 points for a winter tarp with doors. And then the wall pullouts for extra space 😂
      These jungle knots are so useful though! I stopped bringing carabiners because I made a bunch of rope shackles out of dyneema.

    It's too bad YT isn't arranged by the quality of content, this channel should be at the top of search results, subs, etc.
    The more I learn, the more questions I have:
    Do you still use a paracord ridgeline? I watched some of your other vids & made a weave-style bankline ridgeline...Was thinking I'd add bankline prusseks, but will they slide well enough? Or maybe paracord prusseks are better, or both.
    How many tent stakes do you carry? I feel like they're so light, I might as well bring a couple more than I think I need.
    Is there another vid where I can better see the tensioning of the ridgeline end? I don't like the trucker hitch much & would rather do something like this.

    Hi Frank
    Fantastic design and application of a simple, complete and totally functional ridgeline.
    Great minimalist setup.
    Really enjoyed following your video while I built my own ridgeline.
    Tested out in my yard and it really is fast, complete and effortless to work with.
    It's already in my SAR Kit for this weekend's Missions.

    That’s an awesome set up, but if I had to set up a tarp, for example, for rain coverage with my tent underneath, I’m assuming you would run the Ridgeline down the middle of the tarp and do an A-frame or some other setup? Is there any videos of a practical application with the tarp that you would actually use it for for a rain, shelter or something?

    • @JPazer
      @JPazer 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Revisiting this video because I need more prusik knots for the A-frame shelter. Im gonna thread the ridgeline in the middle loop of my DD 3x3 tarp so I can set it up much quicker while also packing it away this way. You can use the ridgeline running it under the tarp (what I used to do) but when raining the drops could follow the cord under the tarp making your shelter underneath somewhat exposed to water. It also puts stress on the fabric instead of the reinforced loop points. Not much of a problem just a min-max thing that doesn't change much in the end.
      A simple A-frame over a tent would suffice to answer your question. Or a Lean-to if it's not windy. I will use the Diamond shelter for my hammock because of the extra length. There are lots of videos on how to setup tarps for different applications. Hope that helped!

  • @seisporocho
    @seisporocho ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Since the system depends on tension, have you ever had issues with strong winds that lift and shift the tarp aggressively? Wondering if the knots come unhooked. Thx for the tutorial!

    • @frankbush333
      @frankbush333  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In wind gusts say up to around 30 miles / 50 km I have seen no issues as the wind increases tension rather than decrease tension, even in gusts at this speed I tend to lower the profile of the setup substantially as I don't want to damage the tarps more than anything. If I know say 60 mile / 100 km winds are inbound I don't normally keep tarps in the air and will switch my setup down to a pyramid shelter or similar setup where it is heavily pegged to the earth and has a low profile of only say 2-3 feet in height with the setup deflecting wind as much as possible with as little stress on the tarp as possible. It is not often I face extreme winds such as this though. I worry more about the tarps then the knots to be honest, thanks for taking the time to watch more coming soon cheers.

      If anyone is worried that it might accidentally come undone then they can use a kite knot to secure it. And a kite knot is a larkshead knot attached to a stopper knot.

    With the bola'd knot, is there any value pushing the knot through the little opening out away from the tree, rather than in towards? The knot being against the tree with the tension concerns me. Curious if the tree circumference impacts this, can that knot ever lay flat against the tree?

    • @frankbush333
      @frankbush333  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As long as you set the knots right up against each other there is nothing to worry about, the one against the tree works without issue, tree circumference has no impact. Build a set out you will be glad you did, thanks for watching more coming soon cheers!

    Do you worry about paracord cutting paracord? In my experience, if I rig a very tight ridgeline, I often end up with fraying or cut paracord line at points where the line crosses itself at pressure.

    Good video, but hard to see what you are doing due to the line being black. Would have been better if you used a brighter colored line. Also best to have done on an overcast day, as the harsh shadows on a bright sunny day make it hard to see what you are doing. It’s not easy to film on your own: It would have made it easier if you had a friend with some camera skills to hold the camera over your shoulder to get those close shots and follow you around to get the best view. However I’ve added this video to my favorites. Keep up the good work 🙂👍

    Still not convinced that this is as fast as a Siberian hitch and truckers hitch. It’s really hard to see how this works because of the dark brown shirt and camera work. I have made the ridgeline that Blackie Thomas made and the improved one Dave Canterbury made using premade Toggles and prussik loops, and even these, tho extremely effective and fun to make is not as fast deploying as a straight ridgeline with pre-tied prussik loops with soft shackles. It’s very possible I’m not getting this concept simply because of not being able to follow due to me not being able to see how it all works because of lighting and dark cordages that don’t contrast.

    I wish you would have been wearing a white shirt or an orange shirt or any light colored shirt rather than dark with a dark ridgeline doesn't give it justice on what you're showing.
    It's real difficult to see when you're doing this against a leafy background.
    Could you do this video again wearing a white shirt, an orange shirt or even a light green shirt? Anything but a dark shirt with dark paracord and Ridgelines does not show up well and pick a different colored tree like a white birch.
    These are things that need to be considered when you're trying to show a video.
    Thank you
