I agree with you to watch what you say around your kids and keeping body image positive. My daughter was chubby when she was younger, but out grew it as a teenager. My focus and words was around being active and healthy. Nothing about dieting or her weight. She is now in her 30's and said she never realized she was chubby until she was an adult and looking back at pictures when she was a kid.

This winter I did a major capsule wardrobe. A company called wool& has a 100 day challenge. You wear a merino wool dress for 100 days and they give you $100 store credit. It was so soft and fun to style. I LOVED not having to think about what to put on in the morning.
Also we love to listen to audio books or Christian podcasts in the car so we can have fun conversation!

I have 4 kids ( now young adults) and I always kept a backpack with a change of clothes, sandals, beach towel , dry snacks and bottles of water. Saved us so many times. We call our car a “private dining car” cause my kids ate in the car often.

I made a summer bucket list with my children. If they keep up with their daily chore chart we do something off the bucket list once a week. It keeps them motivated to get their work done and it helps me make time to do fun things with them.

I started buying the t shirt style crop tops from Target to layer over my dresses when I want to change the look or when I’m pregnant:) I don’t wear crop tops alone but they are the best for layering.

I used to have no food in the van until we moved where we have to drive a 45 min to an hour drive to things so food has been happening and it is way harder to keep the van clean. There are just some drives that need food😊

Thanks for the encouragement to not let ourselves run wild with negative self talk. That’s been something I’ve had to work with for years. In regard to talking negatively about yourself to your husband, I once heard that is criticizing his choice of the woman he picked to be his wife. I know, duh, but it puts it in a different perspective.

Dear Megan & Josh. So nice meeting you both in real life and thank you so much for the nice treat. Really appreciate that you took the time to speak to me, despite you both working. I came into all this with a keen interest in the Mennonite/Amish lifestyle and culture. Yet, having been to Lancaster/Ephrata twice by now, I learned too also appreciate the scenery (spend an hour just watching an Amish guy working on his field🙂), the food and not the least, the authentic warmth and friendliness from the locals. So my fellow-subscribers: make sure to visit the September Farm incl. Josh’s Donut and Pretzel Truck. Do not worry Megan - everything will turn out just fine. Trust me. Trust Josh. Until next time, Villum

Hi Megan, I enjoy watching your blogs so much. I will say I, too, gave my children chores to do starting at a very young age. I have three girls and one boy. They ALL participated in the rotation of dusting, sweeping, laundry, washing dishes, etc. The chores for these duties were minimal as they were young but increased in difficulty as they grew. My children are all grown, two are married, and they ALL keep a spotlessly clean house, especially my son! Now that grandchildren are in the picture, their homes are "lived" in but clean 😉😊 You can never start too young in teaching domestic responsibilities! Great job, Momma! 🥰

I don't allow food in my van unless we are on a long road trip. We eat before we leave or stop and eat somewhere. I like the idea of the car organizer! I was very chubby and inactive as a kid and want to make sure I talk to my kids about being healthy and strong instead of looking in the mirror and talking about weight. Great video!

This was one of your best videos ever! And, although my 5 children are all grown up with children of their own, when we get together at this time of the year, someone always brings up 'remember that summer when we...' and everyone smiles and nods. It may have been a simple picnic or a day at the county fair or a museum, but everyone cherishes those days. You are doing great, Megan, and I'm sure your children will be productive members of society.

This summer, I’m intentionally teaching my kids chores as well. They help here and there but I’d like it to become more routine.

I would like to have 4 healthy habits for each day of the summer. 1 - get out and have some type of physical activity, a walk or weights, just something. 2. Read a chapter in my bible everyday. 3. Do some house organization each day - even if it's just cleaning a desk or organizing a shelf, and 4. working on a stitching project everyday - which is my favorite hobby and a great stress releaser.

Oh man, I feel the camping grocery budget SO DEEPLY. I think it’s because things we buy for camping, are not our normal purchases. If you want to be better at wearing sunglasses, buy several pairs and keep them in the places you use the most. That way you don’t have to keep track of moving them from one place to the next. I keep a pair in the house, both of our cars, and in the fall I will put a pair on my school bus since I’m a school bus driver.😎

Megan I love all your ideas about summer time. We had 2 sons who are now grown with families of their own. As they were growing up I always looked forward to the summer break and change of routines. Then I would always be ready for the school year to start and get back to a routine. I worked full time outside of the home but always took about 3 weeks where I took vacation time and only worked in the mornings. We did a lot of outdoor activities in the afternoons. I agree with your comment about being careful about what is said around children. Yes they are listening. I grew up hearing my mother say that her mother (my grandmother) hated her picture taken. And my mother always said, oh I hate my picture to be taken. Thus I very much dislike my picture to be taken. Unfortunately there are very very few photos of my late grandmother. Thankfully we have a lot of photos of my mother. I however still do not like my picture to be taken. I now try very hard to have my photo taken with my grandchildren so they will have more photos of me when I am gone. I love your energy and ways of thinking about being intentional. Thank you for sharing your summer ideas!! Have a great summer!!

On the sunglasses topic, about 2 years ago I decided that I want to spend a little bit more money on my sunglasses. I bought a pair of polarized sunglasses versus the $2 pairs that I always lost since I felt they did not provide much protection anyway. I live in South Africa and some of our pharmacies and clothing stores will sell polarized sunglasses. They are still inexpensive. I've found myself taking care of them a lot more, always keeping them in their case and I have not lost them. If you have 10 chapsticks, you tend to end up with none, whereas if you have 1, you keep track of it better...
    Each to their own :)

It's things that need to be done each day, such as vacuum, clean up thier bedroom, playroom, feeds rabbits and kittens, and set table,as well as in the evening another round of chores set table, check on animals and pick up everything in the yard. They take turns each day to be the first to choose jobs and well done jobs without complaining get paid each Friday. So far it's worked beautifully, and is teaching them about money as well.

My goals for the summer is to teach cursive handwriting to the kids who haven't fully gotten the hang of it yet. Also, to help my littles with learning to read. I take the summer months for summer school and for summer catechism class at our church. I will also work on sewing for myself. I tend to like Katie's mercantile for the girls. My husband and I both got new vehicles last summer. He made the rule of no food in them to preserve their newness.. that lasted only about a month. Not because they didn’t listen but because my husband couldn’t stick to it himself 🤣 so little by little the rule got bent until it went out the window all together! Now I just try to clean them regularly.

I agree with you about your summer evenings. I live in Florida and we either can be outside in the early mornings or the evenings but in between is way too hot & sticky. So we do outside chores in the mornings and we like to keep our evenings to do things we enjoy doing together. PS - love your dress.

We have the same issue with the exploding budget on camping weekends! I've considered ditching the paper and plastic wear (with the exception of paper towels) and bring real plates and everything. There's always some dishes anyways, it's not really that much more work to wash a few plates and forks while you're at it. That should cut back on some cost 🤷 Haven't actually tested it out though 😅

I don't camp but I love camp fires and I am finding the paper is soo expensive! I've considering spending some money on cute plastic or melamine so it is a one time cost.

I was shocked when she said camping was expensive because around here it's one of the cheapest vacations possible -- we always bring a set of dishes and a little wash basin, wear our day to day clothes, reuse the same sleeping mat and sleeping bags we've had forever, and meal plan in advance so we are only bringing the food we need. I find it's pretty easy to do a quick rinse of plates and we also get creative with food that doesn't require much to prep and eat. Hope that helps!

I’m a couple of counties East of you so I plan my route and day around all the stops I like to make. I hope you’ll do more arts and crafts with the children this summer and display them! God Bless

I always enjoy your videos Megan❤. You are such a sweet mama that loves the Lord & life 🙏🏻🙌🏼. I’ve been married 23.5 years & I always like to greet my husband when he gets home🥰. He still melts my heart😍. & we have 6 children ages 10,12,14,16,17,20. 5 boys & 1 girl. I love every stage & age they are in. Teenagers are awesome🎊👏🏻. It’s a party in my home daily 😂. You were saying about spending more money camping ….yes sister I agree! You shared a clip of the white rocks…convoy (I forgot name) but that’s a favorite trail of mine if it’s the Lancaster North Rail Trail. We just went there for Mothers Day & had such a blessed day! Biked 16 miles 🚴🏼‍♂️🚴🏻‍♀️. Our family is all about adventures (biking, camping, walks, parks, etc). We don’t like missing church when we go camping but it’s been a refreshing gift to our family to make such amazing memories together since our first baby was born 20 years ago. God is good & I’m very thankful!! You have a beautiful family!!!! I love your channel & Lynnette Yoders & The Mennonite Mom, brings back so many wonderful memories with our Mennonite family roots…very thankful for how close our family, friends are. It’s something that I can’t explain but have always appreciated marrying into my husbands mennonite heritage. I love love love your outfits👗 love your style! I hope to wear more dresses as I shed more weight:). I wear skirts at home a lot with an old navy v neck T. I miss jean skirts. Thanks so much for sharing Megan, Blessings from Gettysburg😁 ~Shannon..

I wanted to add I love seeing you do your videos…I really want to start sharing on my channel again..for some reason the “legalism” in the church (I think it’s in my head from many years ago 😉🤦🏻‍♀️) has held me back bc I’m a “woman”. It’s been something I have had to work through. Hard to explain in a post but when I started dating my now husband we were 16 & I started going to his then mennonite church that women did serve & do things but I felt like I had to suppress my gifts at that first church…then we switched to another mennonite church that totally accepted us & we’ve led youth group, home groups etc …but there was still this legalism…. We served at a different church then for a season that was not mennonite & the Lord opened up so many doors for me a daughter of the King to thrive in…I became a certified Christian Life Coach, led women’s ministries, my husband & I led marriage classes. It was amazing! But we left there and went back to our old church because that’s where Family & friends are…we had missed real relationships!!! Been back almost 4 years & I have not been asked to serve & I have not felt led to serve anywhere yet…but I believe the Lord has something for me to share hope, inspiration with women…and I believe you tube is a great place, I just have frozen up & not have been consistent to post. All this to say you inspire me to use my gifts here on my channel…I’ve been out of creating video content so long I am not sure I remember it all but I do love being a creative. I pray whatever is holding me back that the Lord helps me break through that🙏🏻🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼. His timing is everything & I know it’s on my heart but I’ve kept putting it off. Not even sure you or anyone sees this but Lord I know you know our hearts ❤ & with Christ all things are possible & if/when Jesus lays something on our heart to do I do believe we are to step out even when it’s the unknown. We can trust God will lead the way.
      Blessings, Shannon Sollenberger

About the dirty van, an essential for me to have in every car is a small hand broom. I can only vaccuum the car every so often, so every time I'm waiting for someone to get to the car or waiting in the car while someone goes in the store, I will open both back doors and do a quick sweep of the carpets. Of course, pick up any plastics, paper or other similar trash but sweep out the crumbs. It's crazy, the difference that little broom makes in my stress levels. Also, a few ideas for things to keep in the car: hand sanitizer or alcohol wipes, napkins in the glove box(for drink spills, dirty noses, etc), a bag between the front seats for trash, water bottle to make your own wet wipes if needed, a small blanket, a jacket for you or kids can use in a pinch, a couple hats for unexpectedly cold trips, a non-melting deodorant, plastic forks, straw and spoons.

Hey Megan! 💕 I’m not a Mennonite, but I am a Christian like you so I actually love how modest and feminine dresses and skirts are, but I’m a lot more used to wearing athletic shorts every summer. I’m going to be 22 this year, and as I’m getting older and planning to become a Mama soon I just feel like I’m not liking how immodest Nike shorts feel on me, especially with a more curvy and bigger figure on my lower half. Any tips on how to start incorporating more skirts and dresses into my daily wardrobe even though it feels really unnatural and uncomfortable to do that on super hot and muggy days above 80 degrees + days when I’m doing super gross work like deep cleaning the bathroom or kitchen or doing yard work? I find it so hard to wear dresses and skirts when it comes to things like that, I think my biggest roadblock is the heat… 😬 But I’ve noticed you wear them ALL THE TIME! So maybe there’s ways to beat the heat in dresses and skirts? ☺️
