Tumbleweed connection is his best album in my opinion

This song is underrated, by a long shot.

The thing that people don’t appreciate is how hard it is to create a full satisfying rock sound with just acoustic piano as lead instrument, with only bass and drums as accompaniment and no lead or even rhythm guitar. That’s the level of Elton’s talent in his early days. Name another rock artist who’s managed it…!

Bought Tumbleweed Connection for this song...and this live version too. There is so much soul in his performance, I just love it.

My mind is blown. I have been listening to this album for the past forty four years. Its one of my favorites. This remix is about 20 times BETTER than any I have heard of this album. What the heck did they do? I am hearing vocal notes and stuff from the bass guitar that I have never heard. Crisp cymbals, thundering drums, funky bass guitar, I don't know what's up with this. Loved it before, and now I Really Love It! A masterful job. I almost don't recognize it. Sure its the same concert???

I saw him live in 1970 at the Civic Center Music Hall in Oklahoma City. Women screamed. he did something like twenty-two encores. he played the exact show on this album. needless to say, mind bending. I was seventeen, he was twenty-three.

It was actually February 1971, and Mark-Almond was the opening act. I was there, and I don't know if that night will ever be topped. Yes, we were lucky, and the civic center wasn't even full. We need to meet up, have a beer and reminisce.

For a long time fan of Taupin / John this is an amazingly great rendition of this song.. The lyrics are classic first gen collaboration of these two and Eltons timing is perfect..

I just noticed that on the very final chorus, Elton slips and says “living through the grass for hours.” A very human moment that every live performer can relate to :)

      Good spotting!
He also messed up in the first verse, where he is supposed to say "the fruit juice" he accidentally starts singing the second verse "my arms..." but then he caught it and corrected it quickly.
      Live Music!

Why didn't they include this on the album? Because he got a couple of lyrics wrong, I guess. Shame because it is a superb version of one of his greatest "deep cuts".

Big mistake of Elton John for letting Nigel Olson and Dee Murray go after the Captain Fantastic Tour. Cause he said "they rattled and he wanted to chug"

Well, it was a radio concert...... and back in 1970. Not everything was filmed in those days, especially a radio concert in a sound studio...

@@RonnieFriend Here's another perspective on this. I saw Elton John at the Eastown Theatre(Detroit) in Nov 1970 when he did this tour - his first US tour. In fact, just a couple weeks after this radio broadcast. No one really knew who he was. The crowd at the Eastown was pretty small. During 1969-1971 I'd go to the Eastown 2-3 times a month. I asked a friend that I recognized - "Hey, Kazoo - where is everybody?" His response? "I dunno - I heard that a lot of people went to the Palladium(Birmingham, MI) to see some band called - 'Badfinger'?" Now I can tell folks that I saw Elton John with only a couple hundred people in the crowd and they'll give me the "Yeah, sure" laugh. Shortly after that(like weeks), "Your Song" began to get more airplay and took off - and the rest is history.
