Watched my copy last night and the sound blew me away. I'll probably muddle my way through the extras. I'm half Japanese, but since my mother passed 10 years ago I'm struggling with the language. If you don't use it you lose it, and I was never fluent. Now we wait for the OG in 4k.
The audio is honestly demo-worthy and is perfect for showcasing to anyone with a theater setup. The extras don’t bother me too much, as the two I was most interested in were the behind-the-scenes and the VFX extras, both of which you can watch just fine without understanding what they’re saying. I also got this because I doubt the US release will be better, as Toho doesn’t want other countries to have better versions. They are worried about people importing from them, so they make sure their version is the best one.
YES! The audio in this film is the best I've ever heard. I have Dolby Atmos with a sound bar plus 2 rear speakers. The rear speakers kick in when godzilla shows up and it also amplifies the sound when building are being destroyed. The sound engineer did a fantastic job on this film!
I bought the Toho one also. I’m glad I bought this version because the other versions only have the color version and this one has the black-and-white as well. I watch the color one and I’m planning on watching the black-and-white one hopefully today I love this movie. I’m glad it gave Hollywood a kick in the ass and show them how to really make a good movie on a modest budget.
I got my copy the other day and I can't wait to watch it again (saw it 4x in the theater). While I wish the bonus material was translated, I loved this set and couldn't resist splurging on it (plus, I got a nice set of discounts for signing up for the store when I purchased it so it brought the price down by quite a bit). Haven't had a chance to watch it yet, but my wife and I are planning to give it a viewing this weekend when we have more time. Glad to hear the video and audio quality is top notch!
As a filmmaker and horror/thriller director, I find it interesting that people often complain about "the lack of detail in the blacks" when often, that is EXACTLY what the filmmaker intended.
Thanks Adam. My copy will arrive also. I have also double dipped for the steelbook since that one has the special features with english subtitles where as this deluxe edition has only the movies themselves with english subtitles.
Well, at least you get english subtitles. Bought the amazon Japan exclusive edition. Everything only in Japanese. First movie I watched in a foreign language without subtitles and having no clue what was said 😅
I bought this version but I also bought the Steelbook. I wanted to get the Steelbook because it has the special features in English which isn’t included in this edition. Still a great release.
I believe the subs were added to the Japanese release and packaged just to get something over here for the hardcore fans that will buy both. A full English 4K is slated for November where best guess is the sub & dub version will be available with translated special features. Not sure what details are confirmed yet if any.
I've seen a number of reaction videos and the English subtitles vary from very good to really bad, especially the scene where the engineer tells the pilot about the ejection seat. I've seen " I've installed an ejection seat, ejection device, ejection button, and ejection ( then the word after ejection is missing ); also variations of of Noriko's " Is your war finally over "? Any thoughts?
A humongous, pissed off lizard whose breath goes way beyond those of his predecessors. His literally launches an atomic bomb blast, complete with a fireball, a severe windstorm and a mushroom cloud. What's not to love? The other thing that was notable is that the OG 1954 version included references to the wartime destruction in Japan and the impact of the atomic bombs. The re-edited version that arrived in the US in 1956 was sanitized with some of those references being removed. Raymond Burr now appeared as an American reporter to make the movie more attuned to American audiences and it was dubbed. The producers and director of Minus One, to their credit, pulled no punches in detailing what Japan was like post-war.
I wished they didn't put fake grain in it should've just left it as a clean crisp digital look and put the fake grain in the black and white version of the film instead as then it would've added that old film look.
I think you keep confusing digital noise to artificial film grain being added. Just because a cinematographer chooses to shoot digitally. It doesn’t mean that it will be crispy. They can set their iso or other setting to realize a more fil like appearance as it is shot. you however seem to default to assuming they’re adding that look in post. have you confirmed your suspicion w the studio? The filmmaker or cinematographer? either way, full transparency, i do get triggered every time you whine about it.
@@MovieGuy365 What are you most impressed by? HDR impact, low luminance handling, colour, motion etc? I listened to another TH-camr (HDMovieSource) who upgraded from a C9 to a G4, but surprisingly, he wasn't happy, he had expected more. I have a B7 myself, and I am now considering to upgrade to the G4, but there are almost no reviews that actually compare older models like ours to the latest models.
i already have this preordered but i do agree that not having an english subtitle for the bonus feature is a huge slap to the face. Why even include the bonus feature this way to the US in the first place?
I buy Blu-ray discs to watch the feature film, the extras are extra. That said, they could have run the extras audio track thru ChatGPT to get automated translation.
I watched Godzilla −1 on Netflix? Wouldn't go see it at the movie theaters because it was dubbed in Japanese only. I speak English. I will not buy this movie until it has a english audio track. My netflix has.
While it's upsetting for those who are only getting the standard 4k Blu ray, I'm actually glad the Minus Color version is still exclusive to this release. There needs to be something special about this exclusive release. Plus, the lack of English subtitles on the special features disc is a huge let down. So I'm selfishly glad that the B&W version is exclusive to this set that I got
@@travislansford6925 I think he means that you dont get dolby atmos for the english dubbed language track here. Similar to All quiet on the western front. Only the original language audio get the atmos treatment. Not the english speaking audio track. But honestly i dont care. i like watching foreign films in their original spoken language and will just read the subtitles.
I'm now getting more into Japanese films 🎥 .....to say Hollywood is boring and Stale is beyond understatement. I hope they loose more money .... and heads roll

Adam, do you have a Wal Mart affiliate link? I swore I saw you make a post on that, but now I can't find it.
I’m working on it, Walmart has to approve my application.

That Limited Edition packaging looks awesome. Thank you for this review.

I’m gonna order 4K of this film now.
good review Adam and I see how you snuck in the new 77 Lgg4 😂. Great pick up

With which tv do you watch your Blu-ray ?
Hi Adam, great review. Can you confirm the 4K has English subtitles as I’ve seen some say it has and some that it hasn’t.
Just got mine today love this movie cannot wait to wait in black and white
Just got my collectors edition from Japan and it’s glorious!!!
Omitting English subs on Special Features for an international release is an INSANE oversight

The TH-cam video on the making of the movie is enough for me
I got mine yesterday 🔥
😍 want this edition for Italy
The edition looks very cool! But I've pre-ordered the steelbook, and I can't wait to watch it.
Great review! I’m waiting for the steelbook version

Question: How Many Chapters In The Scene Selections Does This Movie Have

Bought my IMAX 85" Samsung 2nd top of the Line TV Just for Godzilla Minus One, Picture Quality Awesome 👍 Depending on your TV

This film looks fantastic and sounds excellent well worth the pick up.
So there’s NO versions at all with extras we can understand?
Not presently.
I'm preordering from Wal Mart.
is this the version from japan? because i own this and cant seem to find the English subs. but this special edition is amazing. great review
It’s the US release from the Godzilla store.
It sucks the extras don’t have English subtitles and the box and inserts aren’t in English
日本版ゴジラ-01UHD-BDの出来は最高ですね特にドルビーアトモスの出来が最高の仕上がりです
When is this coming out?
I've heard that the 4K transition is darker than the theatrical release. Is there any truth to this?
You have LED , OLED or QLED TV ?
He said it earlier in his review that he has two LG 65"OLED and a 77"OLED

What's your experience going from a C9 to a G4? A video on that would be fun!
It’s only been a week, but so far it’s an amazing jump.

The bad subs appear more in the Godzilla -1.0 version than the Godzilla Minus One version.

Is it only no subtitles in the extras? I wasn't going to get it because I thought he said the movie itself didn't have English subtitles or dub.
When I click on the Amazon link, it does not take me to the version you bought. Just shows ads.
I bought mine direct from Toho. 80 bucks
The version I have is sold out, only the standard and Steelbook are up for pre order.

The main character who?
A script that took years to write, $15M budget and it blows away the $200M woke crap with cringey scripts. Hollywood is dying a slow death
you losers keep saying this. but hollywood keeps making billions. lay off the copium.
